THE FAMILY STONE
(Comcast Movies and Events) The romantic holiday comedy to end all romantic holiday comedies. Dermot Mulroney brings home uptight Sarah Jessica Parker to his bohemian New England family, and they treat her meanly - until, of course, they don’t. Sometimes funny and always sincere, it’s at once overwritten and underdeveloped. With Rachel McAdams and Diane Keaton. (PG-13; runs through Jan. 4)

WESLEY MORRIS

EDWARD SCISSORHANDS
(Comcast Movies and Events) Tim Burton’s soulful and visually supercharged fairy-tale autobiography and allegory of the unworldliness of art. Johnny Depp is a hauntingly gentle-hearted android with sharp shears where his hands should be. (PG-13; runs through Jan. 4)

FREAKY FRIDAY
(Comcast Movies and Events) Jamie Lee Curtis plays the body-switching mom in the remake of the beloved 1976 comedy. Lindsay Lohan plays the daughter, an Avril Lavigne clone who “drabs down’’ when her mother’s spirit enters her body, and Mark Harmon and Chad Murray are on hand for romantic support. The movie’s complacent and unsubversive, but the dialogue is bright, and Curtis is a howl as the soccer mom who rediscovers her inner riot-grrrl. (PG; runs through Dec. 17)
