RENDITION
(HBO on Comcast) A reminder that, in the wrong hands, political outrage can be a slog. This far-reaching, overwritten movie concerns, among many other things, a pregnant soccer mom (Reese Witherspoon, above) trying to figure out why her husband hasn’t come home from a business trip. Well, he’s a terror suspect who’s being tortured in North Africa. The cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, Yigal Naor, Alan Arkin, and Meryl Streep. The actors have nothing to play except positions. Streep does manage to turn her one-dimensional CIA villain into something entertainingly scary. (R; runs through Dec. 14) WESLEY MORRIS

ROCKNROLLA
(HBO on Comcast) The twitchy, over-cranked gangsta bang-bang of Guy Ritchie’s “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’’ and “Snatch’’ settles into a relatively patient adventure in crime-movie filth. (R; runs through Dec. 14) WESLEY MORRIS

THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS 2
(HBO on Comcast) You mean those faded jeans are still out there, with all the customized doodads and the magical ability to fit Ugly Betty, the former Joan of Arcadia, and two CW girls (one Gossip, one ex-Gilmore)? They are, and in this draggy, borderline epic sequel to the 2005 hit (at least seven cities and quadruple the emotions), they’re thinking about folding the pants up for good. Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, and Blake Lively reprise they’re roles. In the intervening years, they’ve become pretty good actors. But where is the filmmaker who’ll give them more to do than pregnancy scares and fall off donkeys? (PG; runs through Dec. 14) WESLEY MORRIS
