Tavis Smiley Reports 8 p.m., Channel 2

This new quarterly series finds Tavis Smiley leaving his LA studio to talk to people who, as PBS puts it, “have transformed us as a nation.’’ The first episode is devoted to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Tavis will have to work hard to show us anything about her that we don’t already know. He follows Clinton to meetings on Capitol Hill and abroad.

Ugly Betty 10 p.m., Channel 5

“Sex and the City’’ did this plot, with Samantha, but it still sounds like fun. There’s a drag queen who is performing as Wilhelmina, which freaks the diva out. RuPaul, of course, appears in the episode. By the way, the ratings haven’t exactly caught on fire since “Ugly Betty’’ moved from Friday. It’s doing better, but not good enough given its prime time slot.
