Friday Night Alright: Lady Gaga 11 p.m., VH1
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta renamed herself Lady Gaga after the Queen song “Radio Ga Ga.’’ But what if she’d focused in on some of the other lyrics and gone with Lady Googoo? Or Lady Blahblah? That 1984 song, by the way, was a tribute to radio and it came down hard on MTV — “We watch the shows, we watch the stars/ On videos for hours and hours/ We hardly need to use our ears/ How music changes through the years.’’ But Lady Gaga (pictured) is a thorough woman-child of visual music culture, embodying all that MTV created. Tonight, VH1 airs a Gaga concert filmed last year in Malta.
America Celebrates July 4th at Ford’s Theatre 9 p.m., Channel 5
Ty Burrell from “Modern Family’’ hosts the annual event in D.C., and one of the guests is Dick Van Dyke. I love that pairing — Burrell’s Phil is like a contemporary version of Van Dyke’s Rob Petrie. A little slapstick, a little clueless, and a lot lovable. Other guests include Kelly Clarkson, George Lopez, and Lionel Richie.
