THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
(Comcast Movies: All Movies) A crisp improvement over Lauren Weisberger’s bestseller about a recent grad who takes a job toiling for the domineering editrix of a New York fashion magazine. Anne Hathaway has an earthbound goodness as the girl. Meryl Streep is the titular Satan, although her integrity really makes something less evil of the part. While the picture isn’t brilliant, it is, at its most entertaining, a kicky, surprisingly astute throwback to bygone Hollywood social comedies. With tangy support from Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt as Satan’s other little helper. (PG-13; runs through Sept. 27) WESLEY MORRIS

CLERKS II
(Comcast Movies: All Movies) A low-class reunion, and a sweetly confused one. Kevin Smith’s return to the foul-mouthed characters and Jersey strip-mall setting that made him an indie darling back in 1994 finds Dante (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) in their 30s and still working McJobs. Will Dante give in to the urge to mature? Smith himself hasn’t made up his mind yet. With Rosario Dawson and Jason Mewes. (R; runs through Sept. 27) TY BURR

WHATEVER WORKS
(Starz on Comcast) Minor Woody Allen, based on a 30-year-old script about a Manhattan sourpuss (Larry David, channeling the director) and the Southern-fried youngster (Evan Rachel Wood) he marries. As Wood’s mama, Patricia Clarkson is a regally smutty joy, but the film is thin and divorced from any reality. (PG-13; runs through Sept. 23) TY BURR
