BEVERLY HILLS — Sara Gilbert is aware that there is a show called “The View’’ where five female cohosts sit around and talk about the issues of the day and interview newsmakers and celebrities.

But, as she told reporters here recently, just as there is room for several late-night talk shows, the former “Roseanne’’ actress believes that there is room for her new CBS daytime series “The Talk.’’ Plus, Gilbert reasons her show — which she will cohost with reality-show veteran Sharon Osbourne, “Big Brother’’/“Early Show’’ host Julie Chen, and fellow actresses Leah Remini (“The King of Queens’’), Holly Robinson Peete (“Celebrity Apprentice’’) and Marissa Jaret Winokur (Broadway’s “Hairspray’’) — will have a specific perspective: motherhood.

“I was a new mom when I thought of it,’’ says Gilbert, who serves as executive producer for “The Talk.’’ “I was feeling overwhelmed. And literally, I started going to this mom group, and I thought, ‘Wow, people need this kind of support,’ and it was just sort of like a light bulb.’’

Chen, who is married to CBS president Les Moonves, immediately said yes when Gilbert called. “I was excited because I had just recently become a mom. I have a 10-month-old at home, and I thought, this is my calling. This would be a perfect match because I had the same questions and issues as Sara did when she first became a mom.’’

For Remini there is little concern that viewers who loved her on “Queens’’ might be less enamored of the “real’’ her. “I feel comfortable talking, and I love to give advice. I love being a yenta,’’ she says, adding with a laugh, “there is that fear of, ‘Oh, I could be hated,’ but I mean, I’m hated at home. So it’s comfortable.’’

Peete, a mother of four, simply couldn’t resist the mom-friendly schedule. “After we shoot, I can go get my kids from school. You know, I can be present as a mother. So it was just a jackpot for me personally.’’

The cohosts are aware that their family lives will become fodder for the show, which in Gilbert’s case will mean sharing more of her personal life as an out lesbian raising two kids with a partner. “I don’t ever really think of things as out or in,’’ she says. “I just think I am who I am, and when topics come up that are appropriate, I’ll talk about them and share when it seems right.’’

It’s doubtful much will be off the table with firebrand Osbourne on board. The “America’s Got Talent’’ judge is an old hand at sharing since chronicling her daily existence with her rock star hubby, Ozzy, and their kids, Kelly and Jack, on their eponymous MTV show. She isn’t worried about viewers disagreeing with her. “I’m not running for mayor. So I don’t care what people think of my point of view,’’ says Osbourne.

Agree or disagree, Chen is hopeful “The Talk’’ will attract all members of the family to the discussion, not just moms. “This show should feel like you’re watching six women talk about what everyone is buzzing about, but we don’t have an edit button.’’
