Open Range 8 p.m., AMC
Don’t have time to watch every single western ever made? Then check out this 2003 movie, starring Kevin Costner (right, who also directed), Robert Duvall (left), and Annette Bening. “Open Range’’ rolls up numerous genre conventions into one enjoyable package: the ex-gunslinger forced back into violence, the grizzled sidekick who offers gruff wisdom, the ruthless rancher, the corrupt sheriff, the competing claims of freedom and domesticity, the woman whose love will redeem our hero, the climactic gunfight.
Modern Family 9 p.m., Channel 5

Meanwhile, Phil’s manhood is on the line (isn’t it always?) when he can’t locate a malfunctioning smoke detector.
