They’re people, but they’ve got a little something extra going on, like the freaks on “No Ordinary Family’’ and “Heroes.’’ The ensemble on “Alphas,’’ a new Syfy series, includes a former FBI agent (Malik Yoba) who can have super strength, an autistic teen (Ryan Cartwright) who sees electromagnetic waves, and a woman (Laura Mennell) who can convince anyone of anything. Together they solve crimes, through the guidance of a neurophysiologist played by David Strathairn (pictured), the most familiar name in the cast.
The Closer 9 p.m., TNT
For the finale season, which premieres tonight, the writers have come up with a smart arc. Last season, Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick, pictured) sent a bad guy who slipped through the justice system into a situation that would surely result in his death. Now, in the wake of his death, she faces a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by his family. No matter how much you love Brenda, and I do love the character, you know that she did cross the line; she let her obsession with justice drive her to what looks like vigilantism. And the writers are going to take her to task for it. Also back tonight: Mary McDonnell as Captain Raydor, who will be starring with some of the “Closer’’ actors in a spinoff series called “Major Crimes.’’
