Rescue Me 10 p.m., FX
The show returns for its final, seventh season. Alas, it should have gone on for five seasons at the most. I truly loved it for a few years, before the story line became repetitive and jammed with Big Events. “Rescue Me’’ was a raw scripted response to 9/11 and a vivid portrait of New York, as a group of firefighters dealt with post-traumatic stress and guilt. And Denis Leary proved his power as an actor, making Tommy Gavin both an obnoxious, vain creep and a hero. But as Tommy climbed onto the wagon, then fell off, then climbed on, then fell off again and again, the writing became tedious and the show lost some of its power. Now that “Rescue Me’’ is wrapping up, with Tommy’s nephew Damian in a wheelchair, I’ve got my fingers crossed for a strong farewell.
Roseanne’s Nuts 9 p.m., Lifetime
Roseanne Barr tries reality TV again, this time by moving to Hawaii to run a 40-acre macadamia farm and simplify her life. I wonder if she chose a macadamia farm so she could use the title “Roseanne’s Nuts’’? Seriously. Anyhoo, the show will revolve around her life with her boyfriend of eight years, Johnny Argent, as well as her kids and grandchildren. Also, famous friends Phyllis Diller and Sandra Bernhard will come visit.
