Gossip Girl 8 p.m., Channel 56
This show? No, never met it. OK, I met it, but I didn’t really get to know it. OK, so we did date for a little, maybe two years, but they were quick years and I hardly remember them. OK, maybe I even fell in love a little bit, what with all the literary references, the OMG enthusiasm, and the Upper East Side money. But now we don’t even talk. “Gossip Girl’’ returns tonight, with three major characters in Los Angeles. Pictured: Leighton Meester.

2 Broke Girls 8:30 p.m., Channel 4
Tonight is the test for this show. While pilots can show you the elements of a new show, the second episode usually says more about what the show will be. I had mixed feelings about last week’s premiere - too many lewd-for-lewd’s-sake sex jokes, but a nice rapport between the two leads, Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs (right, with Dennings), emerged by the end of the half-hour. Also, I like the way the show, about two waitresses trying to start a business, speaks to our recession-era anxieties.

Dancing With the Stars 8 p.m., Channel 5
They shoot horses, don’t they?

How I Met Your Mother 8 p.m., Channel 4
Ted runs into an old plot, I mean girlfriend.

The Playboy Club 10 p.m., Channel 7
It’s “Playmate Idol’’ among the ladies.
