PINOCCHIO
(Encore on Comcast ) The star is far too old to be playing a puppet boy, and the dubbing is annoying, so it would be easy to dismiss Roberto Benigni’s lavish cinematic retelling of the classic fairy tale if not for its sincerity and occasionally layered humor. Some moments may scare little ones; the rest is a very mixed bag for all ages. (G; runs through Dec. 29) JANICE PAGE
AND EVERYTHING IS GOING FINE
(Comcast Movies: Free Movies) Steven Soderbergh’s spectral documentary assembles live performances, television interviews, and home movies of the late performance artist Spalding Gray. It’s the visual equivalent of a book of letters. In this case, the film demonstrates that Gray’s most significant correspondence was with an audience. The desks and tables he sits behind conjure up schoolhouses, newscasts, and courtrooms, turning him into a student reporting on his trials. (unrated; runs through Oct. 18) WESLEY MORRIS
ANGUS
(Comcast Movies: Free Movies) An overweight teenager who wants desperately to fit in learns that difference can be an asset in this fresh and energetic comedy. Charlie Talbert as the endearing Angus and big-eared Chris Owen as his very weird buddy Troy make a fabulous comic duo. Surrounding the kids are a few pros: Kathy Bates as Angus’s supportive mother and George C. Scott, doing his best work in years, as Angus’ gruff softie of a grandfather. (PG-13; runs through Dec. 22)![]()
