GIGANTIC ( Comcast Movies: Free Movies) Paul Dano (“Little Miss Sunshine’’) as a young mattress salesman in love with free spirit Zooey Deschanel. Writer-director Matt Aselton puts the pieces of the coming-of-age genre together in ways that don’t quite line up, and that works both for the movie and against it. (R; runs through Oct. 18) - TY BURR

GODS AND MONSTERS (Comcast Movies: Free Movies) What could have been a memorable film about the last days of James Whale, the British director of “Frankenstein’’ and other ’30s horror classics, turns pedestrian when it lurches into psychodrama between the elegant Brit and his hunky, homophobic gardener. As Whale, Ian McKellen is brilliant, but you keep wishing he had more to work with. (Unrated; runs through Oct. 25)

FARGO (Max on Comcast) Joel and Ethan Coen deliver a movie that plays like “Lake Wobegon’’ meets “In Cold Blood.’’ It’s both scary and hilarious as Frances McDormand’s pregnant small-town Minnesota cop waddles into a phony kidnapping plot that goes gruesomely wrong and surprises everybody. (R; runs through Oct. 27)
