Scream Awards 2011 9 p.m., Spike
Sometimes when I see Nicolas Cage (pictured) I want to scream. Tonight, he is scheduled to appear at the sixth annual event, which celebrates horror and sci-fi on TV and in the movies and comics. Others attending: Paul Reubens, Bradley Cooper, and Lena Headey. Nominees include “True Blood,’’ “Thor,’’ “Game of Thrones,’’ and “Super 8,’’ and categories include Best Scream Play, Fight Scene of the Year, and Most Memorable Mutilation. That last prize ought to go to the now-canceled TV adaptation of “Charlie’s Angels.’’
The X Factor 8 p.m., Channel 25
Yawn. This is just another singing contest, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to pick up a lot of momentum once the field of finalists narrows down. Viewers may just be tiring of the “American Idol’’-like formula. The ratings have been middling - about 11 million viewers and, last week, dropping. Tonight, Fox is airing a special two-hour episode, bumping out “New Girl.’’ Indeed, “New Girl’’ won’t be back until November.
