My Sister, My Enemy?

Posted by Matthew Gilbert May 16, 2006 06:15 PM

I finally caught up with this week’s “The Sopranos,” and I’m fixated on The Janice Factor.

This episode left me with strong suspicions about her role in the series’ endgame. Is David Chase using Tony’s fury about the childhood taping incident to signal a forthcoming taping incident? If Tony doesn’t take care of Bobby and promote him, I wouldn’t be shocked if Janice decided to rat on her brother out of revenge. After all, she is very much her mother’s daughter; just look at the contempt she has for her own daughter and step-children. And Livia (may she rest in torment) did all she could to bring Tony down.

Janice can be a funny character. Her tears at the end of this week's episode made me laugh out loud. But we shouldn't forget that she’s scary funny, as Richie Aprile (may he also rest in torment) learned the hard way.
