A "Zone" of Our Own

Posted by Matthew Gilbert July 12, 2006 12:12 PM

TNT’s “Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King” premieres tonight at 9, and it’s a pretty uneven show. Alas, the horror-anthology format lends itself to radical ups and downs in quality. But the King series got me thinking about the greatness of “The Twilight Zone,” and the kinds of pieces a contemporary Rod Serling could make. How about an episode where a TiVo machine will only let its owner watch shows it wants to watch? Or a soldier who thinks he’s going to Iraq but is taken to Iran? Or a man with a transplanted heart who starts acting like the organ’s original owner? Or, or, or . . . If you have any ideas, email me at gilbert@globe.com, and I’ll post them here. Or maybe sign up for the "Twilight Zone" convention in New Jersey in August.
