Idol's Randy Jackson laughs at "Grease"

Reacting to last night's premiere of NBC's reality show "Grease: You're the One that I Want," Randy Jackson said in a conference call this afternoon that the "American Idol" copy cat show is a let down.

"This just shows you, there's not a lot of originality out there," said the "American Idol" judge. "If I was doing a show, I would definitely not have three judges and have one of them be an English guy."

Jackson declined to reveal what changes might be coming this season ("I'm going to come in scrubs. I'm the new McDreamy," he quipped).

But addressing accusations that Jennifer Hudson was bounced from the show because of her weight and looks (much like her character in "Dreamgirls"), Jackson said that argument isn't true.

"If you remember that season, we had our own dreamgirls: LaToya, Fantasia and Jennifer. Fantasia's 'Summertime' was the only time I've gotten goose bumps from any singer on the show. She blew that out. To me, she deserved to win that season. You saw Rubin win, it's not about weight."

Why do all the winners seem to come from the south?
People in the big markets tend to watch BET and VH1 and copy what they see, Jackson said.

"Somehow people from the south and midwest are a little less savvy" and thus more original, he said.

What advice do singers ignore most?

"Song choice. Song choice," he said. "When you sing a song that is too big for you, you tell me that you have no idea what you're doing."
