NECN celebrates 15 years on the air

Posted by Suzanne Ryan February 27, 2007 11:41 AM

The cable station will mark the occasion with nightly cover stories this week that look back at some of the best coverage since NECN's debut on March 2, 1992.

The long-form stories will cover a range of topics. Tonight it's pop culture with reporter Ally Donnelly, tomorrow it's sports with Mike Giardi, Thursday it's the world according to RD Sahl.

"Fifteen years have flown by -- sometimes it feels like a blink -- but when you look at how much has changed, you realize NECN has chronicled a fascinating period in New England and American history," said NECN vice president of programming Charles Kravetz.

"We crossed the millennial divide; so many of our huge figures are no longer with us, from Tip O'Neill to Arthur Fielder; and of course, 9/11 changed so much of the American psyche," he said.

NECN -- some people still call it New England Cable News -- is the nation's first and currently largest 24-hour regional cable news network.
