Tuesday programming notes

A few programming notes for a windy afternoon:

1) This week marks the debut of CNN's much-promoted series, "Planet in Peril." Tonight's premiere installment, airing from 9 to 11, focuses on species loss; tomorrow's deals with rising oceans and deforestation.

2) Over on CBS, Viva Laughlin is gone after its first outing on Sunday. You may not have noticed it was there, since a certain baseball team was playing at the time. Suffice it to say that Melanie Griffith sang, and it wasn't pretty.

3) On ABC, love-or-hate-her Elisabeth Hasselbeck bade a temporary farewell to her co-hosts on "The View," in front of a studio audience packed with pregnant women. (They went home with lots of free diapers.) Hasselbeck is headed to Arizona for maternity leave, and returns to the show in January.

4) Marie Osmond should not be allowed to samba. On the other hand, she's an amazingly good sport.
