David Wade joins WBZ-TV (Channel 4) as anchor of the station's weekday newscasts at 5 a.m., 6 a.m. and noon with co-anchor Paula Ebben.
Wade, who grew up in Somerville and graduated from Emerson College, worked at FOX25 where he anchored the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts and also worked as a general assignment reporter.
After 9 years there, Wade abruptly left FOX25 last July. His wife and fellow FOX25 reporter, Bianca de la Garza, also left the station and now freelances for WCVB-TV (Channel 5.)
Wade joins WBZ as it tries to climb out of a ratings slump.
In the mornings and noon newscasts, WBZ usually comes in last except at 5 a.m. where it ranked second place in total viewers (28,500 in July) and (33,300 in May) behind WCVB.
Wade's first day with WBZ is Nov. 12.

  1. I'm wondering the same thing what about Scott Wahle??

Posted by Beth November 9, 07 08:02 AM
  1. David was not let go! He left! He had to wait it out until now..that is why he hasn't been on air.

  1. they think changing scott wahle is going to help their ratings? They just lost one viewer i refuse to watch with a new anchor man...i liked scott wahle ..Why do they always think changing some one will fix their problems? this really bothers me.

  1. where did scott wahle go? He was the best thing on morning news.....genuine and personable. Where can I go to watch him?

I just dont like the WBZ news, seems to boring....but I'll give it a shot since Wade's there hes a good man

  1. I really liked Scott Wahle and am very disappointed that he is no longer anchoring the news. I don't think replacing him was the answer to the stations low ratings.

  1. I'll miss Scott Wahle who will be doing evening news on TV 38 at 10, but I like David Wade and will watch him on 4

Posted by PETER November 12, 07 03:51 PM
  1. David Wade? Are you kidding me? Scott Wahle is one of the few genuine people doing news. DW looks like a kid in his dad's suit.

  1. I hope Scott Wahle joins another morning show. I will leave BZ in a heartbeat to watch Scott.

Posted by Lyn November 13, 07 10:28 AM
  1. I don't believe the problem is with Scott Wahle - I watched Dave and Paula - and the programming was exactly the same. So if BZ is not going to change their programming - then I vote we bring Scott Wahle back - Dave seems nice - lets give him to the sister station gig! I want Scott back -- I think WBZ needs to look at the demo graphics - if the babyboomers are reading the newspapers and watching the news on TV; and the X-generation are reading their computers and watching their i-pods - then let the babyboomers have Scott Wahle back and let WBZ get creative capturing the x-generation in a media they want to use.. a u-tube of news with new and upcoming communication majors from local colleges. ... Instead of watching the news in the morning - I'm channeling surfing..

  1. David Wade is awesome!!!! I love him and think he's a perfect fit at WBZ. In my opinion the best news around.

  1. am sorry to see that scott wahle has been replaced by david wade in the morning...scott was/is so neat - knew this business and i loved picking up his thoughts on boston sport teams....
PLEASE do not just put him anywhere - he needs to be seen/heard often to please this viewer....

  1. I heard that David was going to be on WBZ in November. I couldn't believe he was gone from Fox. I love David Wade. I thought David and Maria were a good team. I am sure she misses him. I am glad that Scott is still on and we can catch him on the sister station. I will watch WBZ at noon.

  1. Scott, we miss you already. Can't do the workouts with you in the am anymore but will follow you to night time news. You are a class act. What a loss for WBZ. Wishing you all the best, Your friends and fans you met in the ND Basilica. Hope to see you on Mt. St James!

  1. Where is Scott?
We miss him ,and hope to find him on a.m. news soon.

  1. I will not be watching the morning news on WBZ. Scott Wahle was the only reason I turned on WBZ for my morning news. Time to switch I guess. Bring back Scott.

Posted by Joan November 17, 07 08:47 PM
  1. I had to google it to find out where David Wade went! Happy to see David is back on WBZ . Guess i'll catch my morning news there now, He's a Great News Anchor :)

Posted by sandie November 18, 07 05:52 PM
  1. I can't imagine that BZ thinks their problems are due to Scott W. I like Scott much better than Paula who is too bubbly for me. David W will probably be fine too, but I say bring back Scott.

  1. I quit watching CBS evening news when Dan Rather was replaced by Katie Couric. The only news program I have continued to watch on CBS is the morning with Scott Wahle and Paula. At 7 a.m., I would then switch stations for some national news to avoid the CBS Morning "Reality Show". Great Job CBS I have no reason at all to watch your news programs. I guess CBS, corporate and local, believe that playing musical chairs with anchor posts will make up for minimal news content, terrible executive producing and apparently no journalism department. I'm gone!

  1. Bring back Scott Wahle. Without him we have changed our morning viewing station. Paula and Scott were a big hit in our town.

Posted by Jim Willwerth November 20, 07 08:46 PM
  1. I've been watching early morning news for decades! I thought the best morning news team was Scott, Barry, and Kerry. When Kerry was replaced with Paula Ebben, I was very disappointed. I don't care for Paula at all. But, I always watched chanel 4 because of Scot. Since I know when to tune in for Barry's weather forecast, I'll continue to do that, but I'll get my news from chanels 5 and 7. I'm trying to catch the 9 pm news now, so I can see Scot. He's genuine and professional all the time.

  1. for rateings my foot! you(wbz) just lost one of the best anchors in many years. i will be watching scott at ch 38. and ch 7 for my news. bye. bring back liz! ma'be you can scratch out a couple extra points in the colamerante corps.

  1. I'm glad to see David Wade back in the news chair. I was so upset that he and Bianca are no longer on FOX. I just watch him on the news this afternoon and he was great!!!!!!:D

Posted by Ronisha November 22, 07 06:34 PM
  1. Scott W. is genuine and such a relief from Ch. 5's smart ass, Ed Harding. Bring Scott back and change the format, timing, and whatever else that will set ch. 4 apart from the others. Maybe the ratings will go up.

Posted by alan November 27, 07 04:44 PM
  1. Bring back Scott - the energy between him and Paula was great. She seems stressed with this new kid. I am looking for a new morning station - I don't like this new energy and miss Scott. Love Paula - but not the new guy!

Posted by Mim November 29, 07 05:11 AM
  1. How can they compare a seasoned veteran like Scott to David..
Really WBZ who is the idiot that thought this move out..
Bring back Scott and send this new guy to where Scott is...

Paula and Scott were a household name..
I hope Paula is looking for a new job because it will only be a matter of time before they move her out...

    Dah.. rethink this move...

Posted by Pam November 29, 07 11:43 AM
  1. I miss Scott Wahle. Dave's ok but he's no Scott. Mornings aren't the same without Scott - please reconsider

Posted by Sandi December 3, 07 04:40 AM
  1. The biggest mistake you made was to get rid of Scott Wahle. He was the only reason I watched the morning news.He was great. I think you got rid of the wrong person.

Posted by cathy markham December 3, 07 06:42 AM
  1. I still miss Susan Bates! Scott was like an old pal smiling at me every morning...please reconsider:(

    Posted by Nelson F. December 3, 07 04:54 PM
  1. Yeah, I really miss Scott Wahle. Granted, David Wade is good at what he does, but Scott was touching people at a different level. He's genuine, passionate, and calm. That's a real human being on TV! I thought he had great chemistry with Paula. BRING SCOTT BACK! The mornings are not the same without him.

Posted by Ernest December 5, 07 06:28 AM
  1. I'm glad to see Scott go. I have now resumed watching WBZ news. Scott had a lot of bad digs to people that could not be there to defend themselves and who is he to say unflattering things about others. Take a look in the mirror Scott!!!! Glad u r gone.

Posted by Donna Hunter December 6, 07 03:49 PM
  1. David Wade, good at what he does!!!! Are you out of your mind??? The "Wade a minute" piece on FOX News was a joke. Him and Maria were like two school kids, giggling and joking around. Extremely unprofesional. Local news is pretty much one big joke all accross the board in New England...

Posted by Noel December 10, 07 07:15 AM
  1. Just returned from a trip to FL and turned on the morning news at WBZ to find Scott Wahle gone! I can't believe it. He's why I watched WBZ in the morning. The TV set is turned off. Scott when teamed with Kerry Connelly was the best anchor team in the area. I stay with Channel 4 because I like Scott. I predict lower ratings unless CBS puts Katie Couric into the morning slot to help with the ratings. Bring back Scott!

Posted by Mary Atwood December 12, 07 05:19 AM
  1. Awkward, lack of poise, inept, lack of spontaneity, intellectually challenged, would rather be an actor on the stage than a television news anchor, would really like to be a sports desk anchor and an "aw shucks" kinda guy, if these traits are what you look for in a morning television news anchor personality then I can understand why you are upset with the departure of Scott Wahle from the WBZ TV (or is that CBS4, oh what...e..v..e..r) morning news program.

There are those of us who are still in recovery from the Suzanne Bates (did she really go on to be a TV consultant to the business community?) tenure and, oh my, what can you say about that perky little Kerry Connelly. It is good to see that there are some at WBZ management that "don't suffer fools gladly" and take steps to make positive changes with on air personalities. I guess my only lasting concern is are the people who put Bates, Connelly and Wahle on the air still employed at WBZ? Hey people do the math!

Paula Eben was and is a great addition to the show. However, I could detect that she was becoming "Wahle-ized" as the show dragged on. One might want to consider whether the "pithy banter" that Wahle butchered over the years (just look at the many times he blushed for crying out loud. Another thing, how many times did Rich Kirkland confuse him?), should be reserved for those who have the talent to pull it off.

"Down Home" and "folksy" don't work as ploys in the Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma markets, so why employ them at channel 4 in Boston? "Oh no, people don't want to be cerebrally awakened in the morning because they are on 'auto pilot' "goes the argument for having silly news anchors in the morning. Oh, now here's a clever eupemism - people want "light fair" in the morning presentation. I suspect those who are of these opinions don't want to be cerebrally challenged at any time during the day.

Hey, Barry Burbank, Rich Kirkland and Paula Eben...THANK YOU for making the morning news tolerable. Hey, David Wade don't fall in the "Wahle-izing" machine, try to remain professional!

Posted by Gerry Whelan December 13, 07 07:25 AM
  1. Gerry Whelan is wrong. Scott Walhe brought a very human side to the news and showed he is sensitive when so many news reporters and anchors are cold and jaded with the news by now. I miss Scott Wahle. It's very hard to see him do the 9:00 p.m. news with Sara Underwood. He looks so out of place. There is no chemistry. The first week he was on Sara just kept looking at him like he was an alien.I enjoyed Scott & Paula Ebben in the mornings. They have chemistry. They were never loud and "in your face". They didn't talk at you but to you. The problem with WBZ's ratings is NOT with the anchors but with the news they present. If you take a look at other news stations in the mornings, you can see that they are able to present much more news in the same amount of time then WBZ. Channel 4 just needs to change their format in the way they deliver news. In the meantime, I hope they see the error of their ways, put Scott back with Paula and give the TV audience what they want; not new anchors, just more news.

  1. Scott Wahle is back (Friday ). Thank you. I enjoyed him in the morning with Paula. The early morning team with Paula and David.....just doesn't cut it. He is definitely a FOX kind of guy.

  1. I think it's time for Bob Lobel to retire. He looks awful and his comments are insignificant and without insight.

Posted by Bob ferrante January 14, 08 10:31 PM
  1. I think that the show is going downhill without Scott and I think that Paula's dress on Jan. 29 was very very inappropriate for daytime T.V. It would be great in the evening.

  1. Miss Scott Wahle on the morning news. Was the only reason I watched channel 4 after a life-long listener to Channel 7. Will now go back to watching 7 in the morning and Scott is tivoed at 9:00 on 38.

Posted by Dianne Kelly February 23, 08 10:59 AM
  1. Scott Wahle and Barry Burbank off the morning show? The issues are not with them. it is with the 10 minutes of news you stretch into 2 hours. At 4:58 am I knew who to get me weather from.

Todd is a great kid, but he didn't do it for me in Prortland Maine, why would he do it in Boston?

Who the HE -l -l thinks that coming in and firing people like a bull can change anything. I just moved to channel 25.

  1. Found out this morning about Bob Lobel, Joyce Kulhawik and Scott Wahle getting let go. Who is going to get canned next? I moved here 28 years ago from Syracuse, tuned into WBZ because of listening WBZ radio. No more! Off to find a new station to get my news from. Sorry Paula!

  1. Is this an April fools joke? a sad day for boston tv. 3 great quality news presenters, with honesty respect and integrity, replaced by plastic coated fancy dressed actors that want to sugar coat the news and force it into out homes. sad. We hadn't been watching bz since last fall when they took Mr. S. Wally off the air. now I might as well pull a bill clinton and staff, and remove the number 4 from my remote and channel selector. channels 5, 7 and 25 just got a new lift in life. mayvbe they will be smart and pick up these quality news presenters. i have been watching and enjoying channel 5 news since then, and hardly ever wathc anything on wbz or cbs these days. enjoying cnbc fox and others. what next ? they totally remove Barry Burbank from the weather having banished him to the weekends. like they did bruce schwoegler, don kent and others years ago. Managment should put their pink slips down and move away form the newsroom. they are greedy and think we want a lot of BS into our homes. we want honest news reporting from men and women with integrity honesty and kindess, that are like are New england neighbors, not something out of star wars, disney or mtv. Replacing quality news people is like throwing the baby out with the bath water. maybe they should be blaming the CBS show content. Other than brothers and sisters not sure what they have to brag about. Thank god we will have Howie Carr on radio, and the BZ 1030 traffic reports to listen too, but then maybe they will pull that too, in favor of GPS traffic downloads.

  1. I miss Scott Wahle..he was warm and fuzzy the new format is horrible..I switched
to Channel 5...Scott was like a friend...

Posted by Debbie April 2, 08 06:05 PM
  1. I, too, am completely flabergasted that Scott Wahle could be gone for good from
wbz tv. I haven't watched the morning show since he left because it's not worth watching.
I've switrched to channel 5 because it's better than wbz and channel 7, but it's only mediocre at best. Scott has always been completely professional, as well as warm and engaging.
I hope that Scott finds a much better situation elsewhere. He will be an asset to any news program.

    Posted by D. P. April 6, 08 10:42 PM
  1. Where has Scott Wahle gone now that he is not on Ch 38? I Miss Scott Wahle' s style of news and that he was a genuine and nice person who you could trust him. Anyone who knows, let the rest of us in,,,

Posted by anniek April 23, 08 09:11 AM
  1. I miss Scott Wahle as well. Scott, Paula , and Barry made a great team and got the morning off to a good start. Ir's too bad that they are no longer together as a team. I don't think WBZ thought about how many viewers would be changing the channel now that they have made these changes.

    Posted by K Lynch May 17, 08 10:22 PM
  1. David Wade:

What's the big deal with David Ortiz wearing sunglasses at his citizenship swearing in? What did he ever do to you? Did David Ortiz ever go on local tevivision and report you're a skinny big mouth reporter trying to fire people up for absolutely no reason? You couldn't defend yourself in front of the people you report. You likely have security people around you to save your as* when those people you bash on television want to confront you.

Do you ever wonder why our society is such a mess? Well, part of the problem is bottom feeders like you taking something as respectful as a gentle giant like Ortiz becoming a legal citizen and attempting to bash him for wearing sunglasses.

Why don't you just concentrate on the real issues like gas prices, people losing their homes and regular every day people unable to buy food with the way prices have skyrocketed. Oh I get it, your salary is so high, why would you be concerned for the little people?

Posted by Sigmund Batavus June 12, 08 04:49 AM
  1. My husband and I have been faithful viewers of WBZ in the morning and evening for over 25 years. The replacement of David Wade for Scott Wahle has been very disappointing to say the least. David Wade appears very immature, constantly needs to steal the show and has to have the last word with the other newscasters.
We cannot imagine that your ratings have risen as a result of this change.

PLEASE consider switching David Wade to the news at midday!

Posted by Holly McCarty July 2, 08 10:10 AM
  1. I can not belive so many people are getting pulled out of the schedule and are ethier being moved to a different time or even LET GO. This is bogus I mean Scott ,Bob, and Joyce have been at WBZ for many years. If they think their ratings are going up because they are letting go "OLDER NEWS ANCHORS" and they want new anchors so they can be all new well guess what you might have just as well lost a viewer. 99.9% of the time it is the Older Anchors live Scott, Bob, Joyce, and Barry that actually keep the ratings up. I'll bet you from just reading these entries WBZ will be losing most of their viewers. However, for me the only anchor or anchors that keep me watching WBZ is the evening team with Jack Willams, Lisa Hughes, and Ken Barlow but something EVER happens with one of those anchors then WBZ will have lost me as a viewer for GOOD!!!

Posted by Stephen Boyle July 15, 08 10:06 PM
  1. I miss Scott Wahle he is very professional and personable. I would be happy if WBZ rehires Scott, Bob and Barry.and send David Wade back to Fox 25.

I refuse to watch WBZ until they ge their act together.t

  1. I love David Wade!! I loved him with Maria Stefanos and I really miss them together. But luckily I am able to catch David on my Lunch Break and I find him professional, funny and someone who brightens up the middle of my work day.

I was a huge Kerry Connolly/Scott Wahle/Barry Burbank fan and I was so sad when the decision was made to replace Kerry with Paula Ebben. Paula has come a long way, and I like her now, but I didn't care for her at first. So to those of you who loved Scott and now miss him, I understand. But keep an open mind about David Wade. Give the guy a chance, and another, and another, and you just might find that you start to like him and he's an okay guy!

Too often in life, people speak out about the negative things, and those with positive things to say often remain silent. I figured it was about time I spoke up with the positive for, and about, David Wade. You Go, Guy !!! Keep up the great work!! ( But I wouldn't hold it against you if you decided to team back up with Maria !!!!)

  1. Something has happened at WBZ -- something I don't like. They are shifting RIGHT to chase the more conservative FOX25 market. David Wade is pushing his FOX25 perspective and prejudices. And rather than being open about his dislike of President Obama, he uses a slant in his news coverage along with half truth and innuendo to malign our President and his efforts. Both Paula Ebben and David Robichaud add to the RIGHT shift using more predictable clichés and strategies.

I appreciate objective reporting like that of predecessors Kerry Connolly and Scott Wahle. It’s harder to be objective, fair and balanced. Luckily, that’s where the viewers are headed. I find it ironic that just as the country has begun to swing demographically back to the center, WBZ decides they need to go after the shrinking FOX25 market.

  1. Boy did WBZ get lucky getting David Wade. He was great on Fox and even better on WBZ .David and Paul are great together. Great decision David leaving Fox and coming to WBZ!!!

  1. I loved Scott Wahle and I think Paula is the ultimate class act. I do think that David is refreshing and more vocal. He tells it like it is. I like the dynamics between David and Paula. They're a very professional and seem to compliment each other nicely.
