The other Channel 7

Whenever I head back to Miami Beach for a visit, one of the things I look forward to is turning on my little TV set in my old bedroom and watching the news. Specifically, I watch WSVN-TV (Channel 7) which is WHDH's sister station.
WSVN complements Miami very well. It's flashy with its bright radiant colors. It's dramatic with its thunderous techo intro music. It's sexy with its news teases. It's a rush with its quick, back-to-back turn of stories. Basically, the station seduces its viewers, making you forget that you just sat and watched 1/2 or an hour of news.
I've been thinking of WSVN lately because I'm heading home for the holidays. And I know I'm home when I hear a certain theatrical news intro with a spinning and swirling 7 logo that looks ablaze and appears to want to leap out of my TV set and hit me in the face. Hey, it gets your attention and that's why WSVN is the dominant news station. It draws you in.
But seriously, they do solid, good and aggressive journalism and often scoop the competition, including newspapers. (I used to work at The Miami Herald and us Metro reporters had to see what 7 had on us at 10 p.m.)
To get a sense of what I'm talking about, check out this clip on youtube from a recent WSVN intro. You'll see its main news anchor team Craig Stevens and Belkys Nerey, who are Randy Price and Frances Rivera's counterparts in Miami. At the 56 second mark, the 7 logo comes to life. Duck!
