Just wanted to give a shout out to AMC's "Mad Men" and Jon Hamm, since they both got Golden Globe awards last night. I wasn't sorry to have to let go of the pomp, primping, and pimping of the ceremony, or the Miss Golden Globes spawn fawning (sorry, Rumer), but I was sorry that "Mad Men" didn't get a big- fat, free, global plug. The Globes are pretty useless except as a promotional vehicle. They get unfamiliar names out there and set them up for Oscar and Emmy attention.

I also wanted to say that, while the selection of "Extras" as best comedy was curious -- maybe the Hollywood Foreign Press just can't understand all that "30 Rock" American commerical humor -- it wasn't entirely wrong. "Extras" is the kind of small comedy that gets easily overlooked, and it had a great second and final season as Ricky Gervais' character, Andy Millman, became a commercial success, an artistic failure, and a total idiot. Worth renting, if you're looking for fresh shows during the strike.
