CBS Still Pondering "How I Met"

CBS has announced a bunch of renewals for next year, and "How I Met Your Mother" is not among them. But, according to the show's publicist, that doesn't mean the series has been cancelled. It just means CBS is still making up its mind. Whew.

The good news is that the show will be back on March 17 with a string of nine new episodes. So watch 'em and inspire CBS to renew the series. I can't figure out why "How I Met Your Mother" hasn't gotten the viewership it deserves, but then comedy is a fluky business. "Arrested Development" got props, but no viewers, and that's only the tip of the great-unwatched iceberg.

  1. CBS better renew HIMYM! It's the only show worth watching on their pathetic slagheap of a lineup which otherwise consists of nothing but mind numbing reality shows and endless CSI clones.

  1. What is CBS thinking??? Great show.....

  1. CBS must renew HIMYM. The show is hilarious and it is the only show CBS has going for them right now.

  1. Just because people aren't watching Monday at 8 doesn't mean they aren't watching! It's appointment viewing (or DVRing) for me, but several of my friends have come into it through Netflix. Releasing DVDs sort of negates the idea of "must see TV."

There aren't really many sitcoms featuring people in their 20s still trying to figure their lives out (I guess because that was every sitcom 10 years ago), and especially not ones people of all ages can identify with. I've heard CBS hates this show, but they seem to be in the minority.

  1. HIMYM probably needs a better time slot. I'm busy on Monday evenings, which CBS should factor into its decision. It's a delightful show and might gather more fans once Jason Segal's movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" comes out this summer.

  1. All of the good shows get cancelled. What gives????????

  1. It blows my mind that more people do not watch this show! The characters are great (Barney rocks!) and the storytelling (flashbacks, should've saids, etc) is unique. I hope it makes it back next year - it better not be cancelled before we find out who the mother really is.

  1. Please please help save How I Met Your Mother. It's amazing!!!!!!!

But more importantly - How can we save Friday Night Lights????

  1. Please don't cancel HIMYM!!!!! My husband and I look forward to it all week!!!!! The humor is edgy and fresh. Perhaps revisiting the marketing would help? I think the show appeals to the late 20-30 somethings. Well, at least to these late 20-30 somethings!!! And for the love of GOD, if you do cancel it, at LEAST finish out the slap bet and who the "Mother" is, unlike a lot of these shows that disappear!!!

  1. I agree completely w/Swarles Barkley!! "How I Met" is the only good show that's on CBS!! What the heck are they thinking??!!

  1. How I Met Your Mother is one of the funniest and well written shows to come around in a long time. I cant believe they would cancel this show after 2 years when there is NOTHING to watch sitcom wise on TV. I am so sick of CSI this and that and Big Brother and Survivor. Maybe now that the writers strike is over they can get some quality shows to compliment HIMYM. The Captain certainly IS NOT the answer.

  1. They'd better renew it. Otherwise I'll be sleeping on CBS when I stage a boy....Wait for it ......COTT.

  1. I certainly hope they renew it! I love this show!

  1. To each his own, I guess, but I've watched that show a few times and each time found it remarkably unfunny.

  1. Funniest show on TV. I am so sick of reality crap and gameshows. Between HIMYM and The big Bang theory, I DVR that hour every week. Why cancel shows when the networks have absolutly nothing better to replace them with...I know lets do another show where someone talks to dead people or a cop show on the gritty streets of ***random city name here***.

  1. Swarles,
Thats an extremely good point, this show is hilarious. Oddly enough I only started watching this show because of the writers strike, but will be furious if this show is cancelled or if they treat it the same way they did Jericho.

  1. Boo hoo. The only good thing about the show is Barney! Though I do find Lily and Marshall pretty funny too. All in all, I wouldn't miss if it didn't come back!

  1. CBS, if you are reading this, HIMYM is the best comedy on TV. Please do not cancel it. It is way better than all those CSI clones out there.

  1. How I Met Your Mother is the best show on TV. Any episode revolving around Barney is just hilarious. Top 3: Single Stamina/Couples Coma staring Barney's brother, the Cougar episode, and the one where Lily stays with Barney in the Ultimate Bachelor Pad. Please keep it running!

  1. Please watch it. It's a great show. Fight to bring it back.

  1. This is the BEST show! I think it is a great replacement for a younger version of friends with a little racier commentary. I highly recommend you check it out - even if you don't like sitcoms - this is above the line on the high crazy/hot meter!

  1. Just take off CSI: Bozeman, Montana and you have a time slot. Enough of ending good comedies.

  1. Jericho viewers sent peanuts to get their show renewed. Short of physically slapping CBS honchos, can anyone think of what HIMYM viewers can do to make their point?

  1. It is a great show that we enjoy watching.

If it ends will it ever reveal how he met their mother.

  1. Get rid of it CBS. It's silly and stupid.

  1. How I met your mother may get the axe....................but according to JIm lives on. Strange world we live in. Either the tv executives are morons or we are.

  1. Crazy Eyes,

People could send the honchos pineapples...

  1. Suits!

  1. Grrrr...it does seem to be that my favorite shows are always getting shut down...I finally watched this show last season after hearing about it on this blog and now I'm obsessed. It's painfully good - the Pontiac Fiero episode, the origin of Barney...*sigh*

Go to CBS's website (http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/info_faq_contact_us.shtml) and submit a feedback form for the show and tell them how much you love the show!

  1. How I Met Your Mother is absolutely my favorite show on television. I laugh out loud every time it's on. It also happens to be the only show I watch on CBS - seems to be a recurring theme here!!

  1. Best show on TV. They would be idiots to take it off

  1. If they move the show to a 9:00 slot, I think it will have better ratings... There are too many of us that are getting children off to bed to watch it at 8:00....... Hopefully they will not bury it on a night that people do not watch tv... like a friday or saturday night. Great Show, just needs to be on later!!

  1. If this show gets canceled, I'm flooding the offices of the studio execs with yellow umbrellas.

  1. If CBS cancels How I Met Your Mother, I will never watch a CBS program again. This is the only CBS show that apeals to me. Everyone I know watches it, maybe if CBS did more advertising for this show it would do better. Obviously CBS wants the 50 year old audience and not the younger generation.

  1. The show was funny for the first season. It's been downhill ever since. Good riddance!
