'Idol:' Helter-skelter

If only she'd sung Helter Skelter, even I would have voted for her.

1. Amanda did a good job w./Back in the USSR last night; liked her a great deal to start with, then began to realize she was in danger of becoming a one-trick pony; but, she should have sung "Lady Madonna" last night!
2. Carly probably ended up in the bottom 3 because some are tiring of her confidence, seemingly gliding through the competition; she's got one of - if not the best voice of the woman (I refuse to call them "girls" and "boys", like AI does - too demeaning!), but some don't like her - see VFTW, which calls her a "plant"; but I like her - a lot!
3. Kristy Lee Cook appeals to middle America and guys who need to get a life! She may make it into the top 8 - see AI's past for women who outstripped their talents, but went far on looks alone.
4. Why the heck didn't someone sing "Hey, Jude", or "Something"? Jason Castro is lucky to still be there after "Michelle"; but, his Vinny Barbarino smile wins votes, I guess.

Let's see...since this is a popularity contest rather than a talent competition, obviously there are some people out there, believe it or not, who may be turned off by tatoos..or at least so many tatoos. Carly is an awesome singer, with a slightly injured wing still, after having wait forever for the verdict.

I agree that Simon does spend more money on his cars than his clothes..yet it was a rude question..BUT not that Simon ever has rude comments for some contestants.duh

It is about time Amanda left. Her act was old and tired. Carly's problem is that she over-sings each song. Too much belting on Blackbird. Kristy wont last through next week, but the producers would rather have her on tour than Amanda.

Amanda has such confidence and stage presence that I was hoping she would call out the top 10 behind her to dance while singing her way off the show.
She would have brought the house down.

Carly's husband's looks will hurt her for sure. Come on, the guy has tattoos on his face. What a freak!

I love your take on this every week Joanna! Amanda certainly wasn't going to win the whole shebang but she had a few more weeks in her. I don't get the Kristy thing. Nor do I see Ramiele's appeal.

It was time for biker girl to go. Weird about Carly - I thought it was her best performace. And, Kristy Lee - well she looks good but 'm sure she is out next week. But Dolly Parton - that could be a strong suit for Kristy Lee! Still love Jason and those blue eyes!

Kristi Lee Cook in the top ten??? Granted, Amanda got on our nerves and I wasn't a big fan of the tough chick act (I would have loved to hear her sing Andrew Lloyd Webber), but Kristi Lee? If Carly gets voted off, I will NEVER watch American Idol again. I gave it another chance after the Taylor Hicks fiasco (what is he doing now BTW?). This is the top ten now - idol voters will have to get serious and vote on TALENT and not cuteness.

Even "Vote For The Worst" couldn't save Amanda, but they tried. She was all show but not enough voice range. Kristy should be gone soon.

Amanda is gone, thank you America! Perhaps her saying ballads are boring is an indication that all she can do, all she will do is rock songs and if it isn't a rock song, she will make sure it is with her one voice, one note talent. Her stage presence was the best of all the performers but AI isn't about strutting and sticking your tongue out all the time. Still, Kristie Lee should have been gone last night. Also expected to see Ramiele in Amanda's place with Amanda gone within 2 weeks and never thought Carly would be in final 3. I've always disliked Blackbird and maybe it didn't connect with the voting audience either. And to whom ever said something about her husband being a freak with all the tattoos, I disagree. The contestants aren't judged by their families or the company they keep. Kellie Pickler's father is a convict and spent time in prison and look where she is now.

Kristy Lee Cook will be gone next week. I think that someone said "lets put Carly in the bottom three and shake things up a bit ...." she'll be there until the end. Amanda is talented, but not right for this competition. I think that last night played out the way it should have ... now lets all just keep our fingers crossed that Kristy Lee leaves next week! Eeek!

Amanda had it coming after all her predictable performances. Ballads can be boring most of the time but her screaming a song every week isn't exactly the greatest thing either. Kristy Lee will be gone next week for sure. She's always in the bottom 3 but for some reason people don't want to let go of the country girl. I love Jason I think he will go far and maybe even win. He's got a great voice the looks and all the ladies love him. I really think Ramielle should of taken Carly's spot on the bottom 3 because she won' last too much longer with her boringness. I can't wait to watch next week. I think it's gonna start to get really competitive!!

you're mind numbingly brain dead if you think Amanda had a few more weeks in her. Let's be serious.. if you ask me the three judges should be hung for letting her even get through in the first place. I'm so happy I dont have to hear her raspy screaming any more. Some one send her back to the 70's / 80s

The tatoo sleeve won't go over well in middle america and they almost single handedly handed Taylor Hicks the win a couple yrs ago.

Kristy and Amanda were pretty interchangeable, both niche performers and neither very good at their niche. I wonder why Amanda never tried out for that Supernova show, she would have been perfect for that.

This is supposed to be a "singing" competition, not a who's the cutest competition, and America needs to wake up and pay attention. I was appalled that Carly was in the bottom 3 and like Idol Fan above said, I was going to stop watching the show if she was eliminated!!! She has a fantastic voice and should make it to the end, regardless of her looks, confidence or anything else people are reading into her. I'm glad Amanda is gone (I was really getting tired of seeing her stick her tongue out every week - have a little class) and agree that Kristy, Ramiele or Jason should be next. Hopefully the Beatles theme is gone for the season - overkill I think - enough is enough.

Jah Jah Binx....too funny, but you're right. He's weird looking with that blue eyed young John Travolta gaze and the hairdo. I don't mind dreadlocks (on some, they're hot) but his do looks silly and girlish.

As to Amanda, my eardrums thank America.. Yes, MIss Kristy Lee Cook should have gone based on lack of talent but Amanda is just too annoying. As for Carly, I find her to be unlikeable, whether she has talent or not. Besides, she's already had a shot at an album which failed miserably. What record company would take another chance on her. She'd be another failure in the vein of Taylor Hicks, regardless of her vocal range.

Honestly, the judges keep saying this is the most talented bunch yet. Who are they kidding? There are some real klunkers and forgettable people in this group. I see possiblities in David Cook...but his arrogance has to be toned down. As Simon said, he thinks he's better than he is and better than anyone else, for that matter. David Archuleta has a very nice voice and he's certainly humble enough (perhaps a bit too humble me thinks). In my opinion, he'll probably win although, I feel he's a little too young and immature. I don't see anyone else better though in this group.

Idol should have ended seasons ago! Everytime an "idol" wins they make a few songs and then you never hear from them again, kelly clarkson?, a few hit songs, and no where is she?? ruben studdard? did he even have a hit song? clay aiken (a runner up did better than him), fantasia (where is she) and so on and so fourth, there are exceptions like carrie but still, i didnt mind watching it at first but it needs to end!

It's no longer just a singing competition. Taylor Hicks changed all that. He wasn't the best looking and certainly wasn't as popular with the ladies as Ace Young or Christ Daughtry. He didn't follow any rules or advice, just followed his gut and won. If you're going to win now, you have to be interesting, and a lot of these singers are not. This is merely a singing game of Survivor now.

Ok, what the heck is Rameile still doing on this show. For the last 2 weeks she has been awful. Absolutely bottom of the barrel bad. Ever since Danny Noriega was voted off she lost any kind of confidence in herself. She's getting by on the cuteness factor alone. And Simon gave her a free ticket this week. Every time I hear her sing I want to stick an ice pick in my ear.

the Idol tour really lost out on this one. the whole tour will be much more "predictable" without Amanda, she gave the top 11 the rocker element and would have added a nice change of pace to the top 10 tour. now fans are stuck with another boring pretty girl. they could have at least kept the busty pretty one who did britney impressions around instead, i would have rather watched her.

idol should have been cancelled a long time ago, they only pick based on appearance and not on talent. It should also be cancelled because these "american idols" never make it past 2 or 3 songs....kelly clarkson? 2 or 3 good hits, and now shes MIA, ruben?? did he even start?, fantasia, i never liked her, dont really know what america was thinkin there, and so on and so fourth, all im saying is, idol was decent while it was in the beginning now its just getting lame, and simon is paid to act as mean as he does, he isnt a sweetheart by any means, but he puts on a more mean face to get more money, sorry im just a realist!! =)..legend killed.

the girl who sang heres comes the sun, should be singin, here comes another career, cuz she destroyed that great great song, tryin to make it a dance beat song...there is plenty of beatles songs that wouldve worked better for her

Jason, I totally agree with you. She's way better cut out for Rockstar: Supernova than American Idol. It just wasn't a good fit.

I'm with you guys about the tatoos too. All the mothers out there cringe every time they see the sleeve of tats running down her arm. It shouldn't sway the vote but I think it does.

I can't wait to see David Cook sing a Dolly song.. haha

ummm i think Jason has a WHOLE lot more talent than anyone thinks!! If you look back and notice that he's the only one that gets a good review EVERY week from the judges!! The only thing that shifted him last week was the Horrible song that didn't do anything for him but other than that he still got a descent review even from Simon. I don't say this because he is just the most adorable thing on that show but because hes got it all!! That's if you like that talent unique sort of thing!!

I was more upset by Carly in the bottom three than Amanda leaving last night. What is America THINKING? Carly is perhaps the most talented of the bunch this year (ringer or not). I was thrilled with her performance of "Blackbird"...and MORE than happy to have two weeks of Beatles music. As far as I"m concerned they can sing Beatles songs EVERY week! Make it Beatles MONTH...or SEASON! Finally they are allowed to choose from amongst the BEST songs ever written. I'm wondering if the voting audience was unfamiliar with "Blackbird" and that was the issue. Perhaps America didn't like her little speech about broken wings. I didn't like the whole "sparrow in the dirt" thing...If they are doing Beatles week, at least do SOME research and know that "Blackbird" was written in homage to the Civil Rights movement in the US.

Amanda was destined to leave soon. Its too bad that it was last night. Whether you like rocker chicks or not, you can't dismiss the fact that the girl was talented and was DIFFERENT. She would have been a breath of fresh air on the tour and she was certainly more talented than Kristy. Eventually, her lack of versatility would have sent her packing to the sounds of Reuban singing her swan song. But I don't believe it should have been this soon. Unfortunately, Kristy is left to warble yet another off pitch song next week. Get ready to cringe Idol Fans!!!

Carly's tattoo along with Amanda's hair is a distraction to many viewers. What Carly should do is cover it and wear something long sleeved.

I'm a fan of Amanda (and a rock fan in general) and actually happy she left this week. She doesn't have to do the AI tour now and is free to be picked up by a good rock band. I look forward to buying her albums in the future. I think it would have hurt her to be on that tour.

jason has no talent whatsoever, how can people think he is good? Amanda and Carly are two of the best!! but Jason NEEDS TO GO!! He has had his run, and his time is up! i REALLY THOUGHT Michael Johns was the worst singer Tuesday night, then Amanda. As someone before me said she is a "one trick pony". Cute face but the hair and the hole biker thing was just alittle too much.

Kristy Lee or Jason should go next, they both are a act from a high school musical! Then Syesha , I don't know what Randy saw in her. Carly is great, but please cover up that tattoo arm and keep her husband away!

well lets not hope jason is gone next week based on facts that hes probablly the most talented...thank god amanda is gone with her tone-def tunes and her low class appearence. It sounded like she sang the same song every week. We will be having a boy idol this year whether some people like it or not. And if this is supposed to be a talent competition rather than a popularity contest then we really shouldn't be hatin on Jason's hair now should we? If i may say so myself he's the only person ive seen with dreds that can actually pull it off. I wonder why he gets good reviews every week...we all know simon isn't there saying he's good because he's a cutie...jee it must be his talent!! There are far more worse people that will go before Jason even if he doesn't win I'm sure it won't be the last time we will hear from him!!

I think that Jason Castro (though I know that behavior is not allowed w/ AI contracts etc) is totally stoned. Rather than getting bored with each AI episode, I just watch Jason the whole time pretending he is baked. He is such a goof and to imagine him as a stoner makes him endearing. Try it, its funny.

Also, is it me or does Carly look like Grace Slick in her hey-day?

I want my boy Michael Johns to step it up and Chickeze is just adorable, I don't care if it is gimmick - he is entertaining.

It's all a popularity contest, not a talent contest. Amanda may have had a singular sound, but she was raw and gritty. Pop music is sugar that is spoon-fed to the tone deaf. I have not heard one person singing on there, that I would consider purchasing their album. But then, they are singing from a tired old song-book, and not doing anything orginal, and cannot cut loose. Kristy Lee Cook or that Ramiel girl (who sounds like a mouse behind that crap band) should have gotten the boot last night.

If hair is the issue, please take a look at Jason Natty Dreadlocks and David Combdown Anger Quaff. I don't see tattoos ever attaining Idol acceptability. This group started off with lots of talent, but I am disappointed in their progress. I thought the 2 week Beatles experiment was a catastrophe. Week 1 was painful, but week 2 was worse. How do the judges sit there and rail on contestants for choosing songs too big and too "popular" for them and then have 2 weeks of Beatles? This was a marketing nightmare by the show's producers because the level of competition was atrocious. Many people are disenchanted with this year’s show. If I were an advertiser, I would be angry.

David Cook should win the competition. I don't think he was smug as Simon stated the other night. He knows he is good - and it shows in his performance - so what! I think top 3 will be David A, David C, and Carly, but the final will be Carly and David C - and he will win.

Okay the tattoo shouldnt effect anything whatsoever, people have different tastes and interests and if she wants to have a tattoo sleeve on her arm, who cares? I thinks its a great character trait, i think it just shows that shes willing to take risks, and chances. I mean does dying your hair bleach blonde from black sway an opinion for being chosen on how you sing? its not about being classy, or looking like anything at all, its about whos going to make it in the business. But i do have to agree that amanda annoyed me from the very beginning, that tough attitude, we all new she wasnt going to make it very far, i mean she may be able to yell her lyrics well.. but my god enough is enough!! i agree that david is young, but i love hearing him sing, he has so much spirit while he does it!

i agree with idolfaninFl, it will come down to my two favorite Carly and David C! and not sum guy like Jason, honestly, like i said before his time is up, carly is going to win it all, lets face it! Jason is bad, just accept it!

Many people wrote that the show should be canceled...but I don't think that's gonna happen as long as 30 million people are watching!! Some day maybe people will finally be bored with this show and stop watching but until then I'm afraid that Idol will be around for a few more years and possibly even longer!

Kristy Lee looked like she was crying because she has to stay for another week and endure the humiliation. I think I heard Amanda tell her in their hug that she had to go sit down. Maybe Kristy said to her, "It should be me going home!" I love David Cook--he sounds like Eddie Vedder. Sad about his hair though. Brooke and Jason are both so endearing. I like listening to both of them sing. And I don't think it takes too much imagination to figure Jason gets baked in his free time. His apartment probably smells like stinky hair and bong water. But I still love him!!

Amanda was not a real rock singer. She was a mimick and one-trick pony, with her skunk hair gimmick and disgusting crude devil salute and KISS tongue tribute to the devil worshippers of the 70s. She had no range, no style other than growling, she looked so old and used up that she may as well have toured with the real Janis. There may be a singer as talented as Joplin one day, but, Amanda sure wasn't one of them. I couldn't stand her.
