'Battlestar:' Back in action!
SPOILER ALERT: DON'T READ ON IF YOU'RE NOT CAUGHT UP WITH 'BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.' If you are, then you'll know how I feel: It's been a long time since I've been this excited to watch TV on a Friday night. Tonight at 10, SciFi launches the long-awaited, long-anticipated fourth and final season, and here's some of what we'll see: Starbuck, back from the dead. Our Dylan-singing, finally-revealed secret Cylons (Tigh, Tyrol, Tory, and Anders). And, eventually, the identity of that final secret Cylon. (Starbuck? Or is that too easy?) And the ongoing question of whether the humans will ever get to Earth, or whether the Cylons will beat them there. And the corollary question: Earth when? (One of my favorite lines of speculation is whether this is happening in present day or far in the past - in which case, perhaps the Cylon-human hybrids are our ancestors. Maybe Hera is Eve.)
If this all sounds like crazy gobbledygook, I'm sorry. "Battlestar Galactica" is one of those shows that is both easy to get into and difficult: Easy because you don't have to be a science fiction geek to appreciate the sociopolitical allegory, hard because as the seasons go by, the mythology gets more layered and complex. Here's an eight-minute recap, courtesy of SciFi. It'll make your head spin a bit, but it might also convince you -- rightly -- that this is one of the best shows on TV. Possibly ever.

This show is fraking awesome!!!
I guess I shouldn't have read this!
Thanks for the heads-up! My favorite show, too...
I agree about the cylon-human hybreds being our ancestors. Best show on TV!!!
The show went down hill after season 1. Season 3 was almost as bad as its ratings.
oh my gods YES! I have waited way too long for this!

Re: Anon (Comment 1), I believe the correct spelling is "fracking." What the frack! Oh well ... Indeed, this is one of the few TV shows I ever watch. In fact, it is the only show that I watch (when it's on: I'm also a Dr. Who and Stargate fan) other than news, occasional sports, and occasional movies.
Oh, dear. Sorry for the spoilers. I do know quite well that some people are trying to catch up. If you see something you're not supposed to know, just don't tell your spouse. In the meantime, I'll post an alert.
I hate to be a grammar purist but (comment 7) "frak" and "fraking" as a derivation is correct according to scifi.

How can the best show on TV be ending in its prime? Many shows last too long. This is like Larry Bird retiring after his first ring. Any word if it will come back in movie form?
Best drama on TV. Watch the dvds and miss the commercials. What science fiction can be...
Yes, agreed, one of the best shows out there! Growing up I used to watch the original BSG when I got home from school! FYI, Hera can't be Eve, at least not if you hold true to the original introduction during the opening credits. If one of the tribes went to Earth, then Earth is already populated... long before BSG found it!
Re: Unusual (Comment 7), IMHO, it's "frak", and "frakking". It's a "four letter word" after all. Some do spell it with the "c", but I think majority opinion goes with "frak".
Awesome premiere for the best show on television, ever.
Yeah, great show. I've seen faster pacing and story development in wildlife documentaries. It's taken them 4 seasons to conclude a series that could've been done in 2. Yawn. Even 'Babylon Five' was more interesting, and that show was written by one person every week. I pray for the Cylons to win; the Cylons are more interesting than the humans. They killed 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' for this?????
I'm glad it's ending now Mark. Go out on top leaving us wanting more rather than boring us to sleep (The Simpsons).
Tonight's episode was fracktacular, worth the year long wait.
Best TV show ever made.
