'Battlestar:' The Soylent Green Episode (spoilers!)
Maybe it's just Charlton Heston on the brain, but that old dystopian sci-fi flick was all I could think about while watching "Battlestar Galactica" last Friday. It had a little to do with the green goop Tory was eating when she seduced Baltar, and a lot to do with Starbuck shouting, "We're going the wrong waaaaay!" And hey, I wouldn't be totally surprised if the "Battlestar" crew were eating peeeeeople. Times are tough in outer space.
They're tough in Cylon territory too, and awfully violent, though I'm a little confused about the consequences of the Centurion bloodbath. What's going to happen when Brother Cavil wakes up in the tub of goo? Are the models that were shot being shelved? And can't this new, ruling version of Number Six think a few steps ahead and realize that giving Centurions the power of thought cannot, long term, be such a great idea?
All in all, this was a less amazing episode than last week - I got so tired of Starbuck's ranting that I wanted her off the ship, too. (And I kept thinking, all right, Lee, just go already.) But it was marked by an excellent, quiet bit of acting between Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, who remain the show's moral center. I want a little more deus ex machina so Roslin doesn't die. How about Tyrol and Callie's kid?
