"Star of the day, who will it be?...Your vote may hold the key. It's up to you. Tell us who will be the star of the day."
Most New Englanders over 30 still remember the opening jingle for "Community Auditions," the Boston talent show that featured amateur performers from all over New England.
The show returns to WBZ-TV (Channel 4), its original home for 30 years, and WSBK-TV (TV 38) this week.
Tonight, the show airs at 9:30 p.m. on TV38 and then repeats Sunday at 12:05 a.m. on WBZ.
The show then airs each Friday night on TV38 followed by a repeat that Sunday morning at midnight on WBZ.
The original show was hosted by Gene Jones and then Dave Maynard (pictured above.) In its reincarnation, the show will be hosted by Lori Grande from 102.5 FM and Jackson Blue from KISS 108.
Viewers can also email their music or sign up on the show's website: www.communityauditions.com

  1. Love the show. Always watched as a kid. could you run a classic by request?
I don't remember when it was, around 70, 71, I think. My friend was on, her name was Donna Seltzer and I believe she sang the song Ben. I would love to see this again. Good job keep it up.

  1. I was runner-up for the year back in 1960 or 61. Wish I could remember which, but I'm pretty sure it was 61. Are those old shows still available somewhere. I know the last one I was in was recorded, but I would not know where to get a copy.

    thanks,

  1. I have a vague memory of my Dominican Academy kindergarten class trying out for the show in boston (1962 - 63) but we didn't make it on the show. We all played some musicial instruments. Does anyone remember if it worked like that - you might try out but not get on the show?

  1. I was on the show in 1967 or 1968 (can't quite recall the exact year), but I danced jazz to an old song called "Fancy Pants" with two other girls. We were students in Peggy Parker's School of Dance in Dorchester. I remember when I got home my Mom telling me that they could hear me singing the finale song "Star of the Day" loudly above all the others! Peggy Parker put many of her students on the show. Community Auditions also sponsored some talent competitions that were not telivised. We danced in one of those competitions in Needham, MA and won 2nd place and got a trophy which was displayed at our dance studio. I wonder if that trophy is still there? I'd really love to be able to see the tape of that dance we did on TV! Anyone know where we can get that?
