"Friday Night Lights": Season 3 Is On

That possible deal between NBC and DirecTV to bring back "Friday Night Lights" for a third season? Well it's officially a go. Basically, DirecTV will offer the 13-episode season to its subscribers first, during the fall. And then NBC will air the season to everyone else at midseason.

This is a great development -- uniting to save a product. NBC made a similar deal with USA to bring back "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." I hope this kind of rescue tactic pays off for all parties involved, so that more much-loved but little-watched shows can be saved.

  1. Will they air ALL episodes on NBC? Or do we have to buy direct TV? Thank goodness this show will return - it's the best on television.

  1. Laura, yes, NBC will air all the episodes, but later than DirecTV. And later is better than never... MG

  1. How does NBC figure they will get any ratings at all under this setup? Most FNL fans will either watch on DirecTV (if they have it) or via the internet well ahead of when NBC airs it. NBC's ratings should be barely higher than the ratings UHD gets for showing Season 1 reruns of FNL.

Their only hope is for major thunderstorms during every airing, preventing DirecTV viewers from watching or posting the episode online.
