Wednesday TV roundup

A few thoughts, as we await tonight's Dollylicious "Idol" results...

1) I woke up this morning thinking of songs about birds for my dream "Idol" week. I'm thinking Carly could belt out "Wind Beneath My Wings," David Cook could try Steve Miller's "Fly Like an Eagle," and...I don't know, maybe Ramiele could sing "When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbing Along." Any other suggestions?

2) Time-shifter that I am, I finally caught up last night with Monday's brilliant "How I Met Your Mother." The Barney-centric episode was my favorite in a long time; I laughed out loud as his friends tried to guess his method of picking up women at museums. And the "Doogie" shout-out at the end was especially sweet, since I've been catching up with old episodes on Hulu.com. Neil Patrick Harris=Awesome.

3) Ta-ta, Steve Guttenberg. He's such a sweet, enthusastic, terrible dancer, and I'm sorry to see him go. Another "Dancing With the Stars" note: that little sequence last night about the celebrities' secret hobbies was marginally cute as an "American Idol" parody, but it wasn't actually funny. At all.

4) "Project Runway" won a prestigious Peabody Award. So did "30 Rock," "Dexter" (take that, Emmy voters), "Mad Men," a sweet Sundance documentary series called "Nimrod Nation," and a few WGBH productions, including the "Runway"-inspired tween/teen engineering show "Design Squad," a NOVA episode called "Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial," and the Frontline episode "Cheney's Law."
