"Inside a Cult," Continued

News broke between the time I filed today's review of National Geographic's "Inside a Cult," which is here, and tonight's airing of the documentary.

"Inside a Cult" is a profile of a group of people in New Mexico who follow a self-styled messiah named Michael Travesser (photo above). Yesterday, police arrested Travesser -- whose real name is Wayne Bent -- on charges of having sexual contact with a minor and contributing to the deliquency of a minor. The CNN news story about the arrest, which also documents the removal of three children from the cult's compound, Strong City, is here.

In the hourlong documentary, tonight at 10, Travesser talks about sleeping with seven naked virgins, but he denies performing any sexual acts with them, even after one of the girls threatened to take her own life if he wouldn't have sex with her. The Strong City website, here, contains a number of blog entries defending Travesser and paralleling his arrest with the trials of Jesus Christ. In one entry, dated Monday, May 5, Travesser himself writes:

"It was the same for Jesus. Jesus had not committed any crimes, so the authorities had to invent some crimes to crucify him over. It is the same for me also. I have committed no crimes, but many crimes are being imagined and concocted in the minds of men to try and kill me again. Men are so stupid, though, for they do not know that they cannot kill Spirit. They think if they get to kill my body it will end it. I laugh long and hard over this. My Spirit cannot be killed by dogs and snakes or anything else. ...But these things always accompany the appearing of Messiah. Any Messiah is instantly hated by all but the Sons of God."

I recommend that you watch "Inside a Cult" tonight, if you have an interest in the psychology of cults and apocalyptic thinking. The documentary doesn't go deep, but it gets up-close enough to the Strong City members and their leader to give you the full-on willies. Of course, all this attention may be satisfying to Travesser and his people; why else would they have agreed to grant the filmmakers access in the first place if they weren't drawn to the limelight?

  1. Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult because they try to cut you off from others who do not have the same beliefs, including family. Yes,you can ‘check out anytime you want but you can never leave’,because they can and will hold your family hostage.
The Watchtower is a truly Orwellian world.

The ‘message’ is their false Gospel that Jesus had his second coming already in 1914.The problem with this,is it’s not just a cute fairy tale, Jesus warned of the false prophets who would claim “..look he is here in the wilderness,or see here he is at the temple”
    The Watchtower’s Gospel “kingdom” is a man-made “different version”.(Gal.1:8)

  1. Having worked as a victim advocate for a number of years, I don't believe Michael Travesser's story about the underage girls begging him to have sex with them. This , as usual, a male dominated sect, where girls are uses for sexual purposes under the guise of religion. If you do the crime, do the time! 13 year old girls only beg for sex with 66 year old men in the mens fantasies!

  1. The Jehovah's Witnesses have settled lawsuits alleging church policies protected pedophile men who sexually abused children for many years.
    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21917798/

The victims were required to sign gag orders to prevent them from saying anything about the money or more importantly about their abusers. Yet more importantly the court documents that were part of the five year legal battle shows exactly what despicable sinks of debauchery that supposed leaders and elders of Jehovah's Witnesses will go to in order to protect pedophiles.

  1. michael travesser is wrong for what he thinks of himself because the bible says that no man will know the day or hour and he claims he knew and As we can see today that the world is still here.

  1. The "Great Controversy" between Christ and Satan has always been about "truth". As Lucifer smeared the heavens with his lies, so does the modern media fill the airwaves with its propaganda about Michael Travesser.

This film suggested that a date for the end of the world was predicted, which can be easily disproved by listening to actual audio interviews on the groups website (see article entitled "What We Said About The Prophecy").

Another lie is about Michael "sleeping with seven naked virgins". He did lay down with some of them for a few moments and put his hand on their heart for their own personal healing. Is that what most men do when they "sleep" with a virgin?

To say that the film "doesn't go deep" is a gross understatement. This "cut and paste" version from the Nat/Geo film has just a few sound bites from more than 100 hours of film gathered by the crew, and has very little of the actual testimony from those who have experienced this living parable.

  1. I have a friend inside this cult, and the last time she emailed me, she said that Jesus had already come and she was worshipping him. This is in direct conflict with what the Bible teaches, that every eye shall see Him. I don't know how she got sucked into this cult, but I think it is unfortunate that these people are following this nut who proclaims to be the Messiah, and predicts when the world will come to an end. If I was in that cult, I would've walked out on November 1st after Michael Travessers predictions didn't come true.

  1. You only show your ignorance Jeri, since it is the media that has claimed a prediction was made, and not Travesser.

  1. I knew Wayne Bent and his first wife in 1972 when he was attending, along with me, a Seventh Day Adventist college in Riverside, California. After he left the SDA Church and also his first wife, my wife and I ran into his ex-wife and she revealed some things about Wayne that there is no way he was even fit to be a Pastor then much less an "end time Messiah" now.

In the National Geograhic film, Wayne, (Micheal Travesser,) claims that Mary, the mother of Jesus, "was fooling around with other men before the angel, Gabriel, revealed to her that she would be the mother of the Messiah etc.." Micheal, (Wayne,) here certainly misinterprets scripture. Mary, Jesus' mother is quoted in scripture as telling the Angel, Gabriel, that she had never known any man (sexually.) Therefore, Wayne, here places the mother of Jesus in a very sexually promiscuous light. How can any, so called, "end time servant of God" (Micheal Travesser, Wayne Bent), speak such impure things about a virtuous servant of God in the past and be considered by anyone, even God Himself, as being a "true servant of God" much less "The Messiah?"

  1. TerryCzap, I don't believe that the media published lies about Micheal/Wayne and the National Geographic film did not only publish what Micheal/Wayne predicted regarding the end of the world:

Was it a lie of the media (film) where Jeff's (Micheal/Wayne's son) wife, testifies that she chose to have sex with Micheal/Wayne at the, so called command of Father (God)? And was it another media(film) lie where you see in that film Jeff with his head down and against the door jamb as his wife is testifying to this?

Was it another lie of the media and film where the predicted time by Micheal/Wayne came and went without incident except Micheal/Wayne and his group shouting "victory!, victory!" and jeff saying, in so many words, that "he did not care how many times God would dissappoint him as God dissappointed him this time without showing up as Micheal/Wayne had predicted that time?"

  1. In the National Geographic film, "inside a cult," Wayne/Micheal, says that, "The Archangel, Micheal, will possess anyone's body just like he (the archangel, Micheal) has possessed his own body." If that is the case, what then makes Wayne/Micheal, more special than any other man? Jesus was more special than any other man because scripture indicates that He was and is God and not an angel that possessed his body. It was God Himself that formed a human body in the womb of a virgin that had never known another man sexually and took possession of that body to become Jesus, the Son of God. There will never be another Son of God. There was only one Son of God, Jesus. And that took place over 2000 years ago in Jerusalem. Jesus then was crucified, died, and rose again from the dead, ascended to heaven and will come again soon to restore this earth to its Edenic state and place all those who have placed their faith in Him to live eternally with Him there also.

  1. The little that "Terry Czap" claims that the National Geographic film has as compared to the more than 100 hours that he claims were actually filmed of their lives at that New Mexico Compound, had enough in it to show, any true and diligent Bible student, that Wayne/Micheal, not only misquotes scripture but also uses it to justify his polygamous and sexually promiscous lifestyle now, not to mention his erroneous claim of being the "End Time Messiah."

And if a so called "Living Parable" cannot meet up to the true "Testimony of Jesus," which, at this point I see no equivalent of that in Wayne/Micheal, it is to be seen as a "False Living Parable."

There were "False Realities" (Living Parables) in the days of Joshua (the giants in the land etc.,) Micheal Travesser is an end-time "False Reality" of a messiah.

The Apostle Paul, in the Book of Hebrews, indicates that Jesus, the only true Messiah, is in heaven interceding for us now, Hebrews 7:25. There is no need for another Messiah here on earth now. He meets all our needs via His Heavenly Ministry there now as our High Priest, and will continue to do this until He comes again soon.

  1. Wayne/Micheal Travesser's Arrest in no way parrallels the arrest of Jesus. The arrest of Jesus, 2000 plus years ago, was based on, not witnesses that claimed to have sexually immoral evidence against him from female witnesses, but from one of His 12 chosen Apostles, Judas, who led a mob to Jesus' place of prayer where Jesus was spending the evening in prayer with His 11 faithful apostles, where He (Jesus) was then taken, tried, and executed.

And Jesus' execution was not something unplanned by God Himself but a plan by God Himself from the foundation of the world for all the sins of the entire human race. In other words, Jesus would have died for the sins of the World whether Judas would have betrayed Him or not. If Judas had remained faithful to Jesus, He, (Jesus) would have then taken the place of the passover lamb (of which Jesus was the symbolical antitype) that was to be sacrificed that afternoon in the Jewish temple. Wayne/Micheal Travesser, doesn't even come close to all this that Jesus, the true Son of God, did for Humanity, much less any good he (Micheal) claims to be doing for those at Strong City. And those at Strong City, who allow themselves to continue to be decieved by Micheal/Wayne, have truly lost sight of what Jesus has already done for them at Calvary 2000 plus years ago, otherwise, they would leave Micheal and Strong City to serve Jesus, their only true Messiah and Saviour, elsewhere in this world.

  1. Micheal is a victim! Anyone who knows him can tell him that. He is basing his living on information meant for another fellow.

Heavenly messages are transfered through frequency that can be listened to by anyone who is spiritually conscious.

That is the reason why different people at different places at different time can know of a prophecy at the same time.

A message was sent to someone (Living Incarnation of Michael) and Travesser heard it and thought the message is for him!

Trully, Arch Angel Micheal will be born among humans at end time.

I hindu, he is kalki, in bible michael and the guy on the white horse in Rev 19. In mordern age he is the "Great Monarch" (google it).

He will be lost at first in his early days and later realise and fulfil his destiny as Commander of Heaven's Army So, the world should not be expecting an holy end time prophet.

There are 2 Messiahs. One by begotten(John 3:16)
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son....

    The order by Adoption/Proclaimation.
Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Christians are so blind about this truth! Jesus Himself will hand-pick one man who will be manifestation of his power:

Rev 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
Rev 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Psa 110:2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

    There are 4 characters:
    1. Narrator.
    2. LORD
    3. Lord
    4. rod of thy strength who will rule among (3) enemies.

Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Jesus is the Sin Offering Messiah and another descendant of Abraham who followed perftly in His footstep will be the righteous servant!

This prophecies has been joined and claim to only of Jesus!

Isa 11:4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, ...................

Jer 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Jer 33:15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.
Jer 33:16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.

He will be born in the line of King David, descendant of Abraham. (Isa 11:1)
He will be a pathenos(unmarried) thus will be less than 40.

Michael/Trav is 66! To old to be an incarnation.
He is not from descendant of Israel not that i know of.

He was Melchisedek/Shem and when Jesus came people wondered if Jesus was rebirth of melchisedek. The part where Jesus asked the disciple whom they think He was and they reply elijah, prophets etc is shortened form of the original reply. The christian fathers cut this out. They also said, some thinks he is melchisedek!

I think Trave.. issue and other is pointing to one thing, end is near!

The world will be 6000 * 360 days in 2010.

America will be about 66 years since they have been the world power.

You may ask what America got to do with eschatology; look at this:
Ask your self what made America the superpower? WWII probably
How many countries were destroyed during WWII? 3 Rome(Italy/Mussolini)-Berlin(Hitler)-Toko(Japan)

    Now,
Dan 7:8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

I live the rest to you.

  1. With all due respect to, brother/sister (Justice Seeker) he/she apparently does not take "The Bible" and "The Bible only" as his/her guide to truth because if he/she did he/she would accept that the Apostle Paul used Psalm 110:1 to apply to Jesus and Jesus only in Hebrews 1:13, "But to which of the angels said He (God) at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?" Apparently there were ideas in Paul's day indicating that Jesus was an Angel and he wanted his hearers to understand that Jesus was not an angel but much more than that.

In the entire book of Hebrews, the Apostle Paul devotes to explaining how Jesus of Nazareth was and is, not only, the One and Only True Son of God, (symbolized by the entire jewish sanctuary services especially the yearly Day of Atonement sacrificial lamb,) but was and is also equal with God. And never does Paul indicate there the idea of there being a second Messiah by adoption.

Jesus Himself indicated how in the "End Times" MANY false christs and false prophets would arise and decieve many and "if it were possible the very ELECT,"
Matthew 24:24. The elect will not be decieved by those dillusions and deceptions because they will guide themeselves by "Bible" and "Bible Only."

Satan, just before Jesus returns, will impersonate Christ and decieve those who do not guide themselves by "Bible" and "Bible Only." I see the idea of "Justice Seeker," about there being two Messiahs (one begotten and one by adoption) as an idea that leaves the great deciever (satan) to use for his purpose in his impersonation of Jesus Christ.

  1. Wayne/Micheal's statement saying that, "His three days in jail were like the three days jesus was in the tomb," is not only unscripturally unfounded but also metaphorically unrelated:

Jesus was dead in His three days in the tomb---Wayne/Micheal was very much alive his three days in jail.

Jesus was dead those three days, sinless, but there dead, for the sins of mankind---Wayne/Micheal, sinfull, was very much alive to face allegations against him of sexual misconduct towards minors etc.

Jesus was betrayed by one of His 12 apostles who led a murderous mob to Jesus' place of prayer and from there was taken to a "mock juryless trial" where he was sentenced to a carried out death sentence---Wayne/Micheal betrayed himself by revealing to the world (via the National Geographic film, "Inside a Cult'") his questionable sexual activities with minor girls causing the authorities to become duly concerned over the safety of minor children at his compound who then legally arrested him to face a trial date for those crimes.

Jesus was never in jail, His death sentence was carried out and that was why he was three days dead in the tomb---Wayne/Micheal's sentence is yet a ways away, since his three days in jail, and his trial has been postponed once already. If he is tried this year or the next, his sentence will probably not be a death sentence. But it probably should be some sort of phsychiatric confinement at some mental institution and his Strong City Compound should be closed.

  1. justice seeker
your intelligence is only surpassed by "michaels"
rome, berlin, toko (i presume you mean tokyo) are cities
i wouldn't expect any less from a typical follower of a self-satisfying, physically and mentally depraved moron.
i hope "michael" does the right thing by everyone and brings an end to his world.
then bring on the next freak with ambitions of fame, there's one around every corner, and there's always some fool lacking substance in their own life who'll believe them.
    peace be with you...........

  1. Revelation 14:12 says, "...Here are they that keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus."

The commandments here are in reference to the 10 commandments. The 7th one says not to commit adultery. Adultery is when one man takes another man's wife and has sex with her or when one woman takes another woman's husband for the same purpose.

Isn't Jeff, Wayne/Micheal's son? And isn't jeff a man? And did not Wayne/Micheal take his son, Jeff''s wife, and have sex with her? Therefore, Wayne/Micheal, is guilty of committing adultery. He is guilty of breaking the 7th commandment.

God would never give a commandment, such as the 7th one and then tell someone at any time past or present or future to break it like Wayne/Micheal has done.

Whatever voice that Wayne/Micheal and those women heard telling them to "consumate sexually" was not the voice of the true God. Again, the true God, the God of Jesus Christ, would never command anyone to break any of the 10 commandments in the past, in the present, or in the future. Otherwise He would be a hypocritical God.
