This is great news. HBO has renewed "In Treatment" for a second season, which will film in New York this fall and air sometime next year. Gabriel Byrne will be back as Dr. Paul Weston, of course. The first season gave us a group of amazing clients, but Byrne's Weston was the defining anchor of the show. Dianne Wiest, who played his therapist, has also signed on again.

It's still unclear how the second season will work -- whether all the clients will be new, and whether the series will be daily, as it was for season 1. More to come, as the information emerges. I've been eager to see how HBO will pull itself together going forward, and this development is promising.

  1. Craig's surprised gasp "What?" when he learned there would be another elimination after a contestant took a bribe seemed phony to me. He could foul up any competition and get away with it because of his physical liabilities. My money's on him.
