Still more Emmy finalist lists

...courtesy of the sleuths at the Los Angeles Times. Here are the final contenders for Best Drama Actor, Best Drama Actress, and Best Supporting Comedy Actor:

TOP 10 SEMIFINALISTS: BEST DRAMA ACTOR
Gabriel Byrne, "In Treatment"
Kyle Chandler, "Friday Night Lights"
Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad"
Patrick Dempsey, "Grey's Anatomy"
Michael C. Hall, "Dexter"
Jon Hamm, "Mad Men"
Eddie Izzard, "The Riches"
Hugh Laurie, "House"
Denis Leary, "Rescue Me"
James Spader, "Boston Legal"

A nice list, all in all, though the LA Times notes that no one from "Lost" is on it. That's what you get for being in an ensemble.
Really should win, for the sake of all that is right in the world: Michael C. Hall
Noble contenders: Gabriel Byrne, Kyle Chandler, Bryan Cranston, Jon Hamm
Enough already: Patrick Dempsey, James Spader
My choices from this list: Hall, Byrne, Chandler, Cranston, Hamm.

TOP 10 SEMIFINALISTS: BEST DRAMA ACTRESS
Patricia Arquette, "Medium"
Glenn Close, "Damages"
Minnie Driver, "The Riches"
Sally Field, "Brothers and Sisters"
Mariska Hargitay, "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit"
Holly Hunter, "Saving Grace"
Elisabeth Moss, "Mad Men"
Mary McDonnell, "Battlestar Galactica"
Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer"
Jeanne Tripplehorn, "Big Love"

Another good list, if you ask me.
Truly deserves this, and her series does, too: Mary McDonnell. "Galactica" has gotten the Emmy shaft for years, but McDonnell is one of the chief reasons that it's among the very best shows on TV.
I'd still feel very happy if she won: Jeanne Tripplehorn. Barb's struggle was truly the center of "Big Love" last season, and Tripplehorn played it perfectly.
Yawn: Glenn Close's scenery chewing in "Damages."
Enough, enough, ENOUGH already: Sally Field, Mariska Hargitay
My choices from this list: McDonnell, Tripplehorn, Holly Hunter, Elisabeth Moss, Kyra Sedgwick.

TOP 10 SEMIFINALISTS: COMEDY SUPPORTING ACTOR
Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men"
Kevin Dillon, "Entourage"
Justin Kirk, "Weeds"
Neil Patrick Harris, "How I Met Your Mother"
John Krasinski, "The Office"
Jack McBrayer, "30 Rock"
Tracy Morgan, "30 Rock"
Jeremy Piven, "Entourage"
Fred Willard, "Back to You"
Rainn Wilson, "The Office"

Please, give this man some love: Neil Patrick Harris
Or if not that man, this one: Jack McBrayer
Unsung hero: Tracy Morgan
Wish I could say the same for these guys, but I can't: Kevin Dillon, Jeremy Piven
My choices from this list: Harris, McBrayer, Morgan, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski.

  1. How is Jon Cryer a Supporting Actor? Why not a lead actor?

Neil Patrick Harris deserves this. He is the best part of HIMYM.

  1. Without a doubt, Michael C. Hall. The Ensemble award he got for SFU didn't do him justice. He's the reason Dexter is THE show to watch on tv today.

This is a 3 horse race, Hall, Byrne, and Hamm competing in that order.

  1. Dang! I love "Dexter", "Mad Men" and "In Treatment" and it would be very tough for me if I had to pick a winner between Hamm, Bryne and Hall. I think I'd go with Hamm though, but that could be because I started a Season 1 "Mad Men" re-watch today and just watched him eviscerate the loathsome Pete Campbell and it was so goooood. Oddly enough, Don Draper, ad man, is probably less likable than Dexter, serial killer, and the connection we feel with Don despite that is due in large part to Hamm's excellence (along with great writing, directing and supporting actors).
