'SYTYCD:' Eight is enough
I have reached a new milestone with this show: I'm now able to recognize a Mia Michaels routine without being told who choreographed it. That angels-almost-die-while-listening-to-Celine-Dion number bore her trademark, after all; It was beautiful in a freaky way. (And the female dancers looked beautiful in a freaky way, thanks to the Emmy-nominated makeup department.) Still, I fear that little dance got the audience depressed -- or, at least, relieved when it was over. Meanwhile, how about that Nigel, choreographing the guys? Next up, I really want to see him dance.
Another milestone: I am now able to successfully predict the bottom four, though not necessarily the bottom two. More on that after the jump.
I'd have hated to see either Mark or Gev go, but I was particularly sad about Gev tonight. His solo, as usual, was phenomenal. But Mark's theatrical skills probably pushed him over the edge, and I suppose that's as fair as a show like this can be.
I was a little surprised to see Kherington leave before Comfort, but that country two-step was rough indeed. And last night's Comfort/Twitch hip-hop routine was better than either of Kherington's numbers. And it would have seemed awfully cruel to have sent Comfort home again. Not that Voting America cares about being cruel.

I was a bit surpised that Comfort made the cut last night. We'll see what happens next week. Nigal dancing would be a great treat or even Mary for that matter. So far I think this has been a great season, but I do miss Shane Spanks. He's an amazing choreographer, but I guess he went to that "other" dance show, which personally, does not compare!
Ha! I'm right with you with identifying Mia Michaels' work. For the first time I knew it was hers without being told. And I really liked it -- not as much as past work I've seen, but it was still very good.
I'm disappointed in seeing Kherington go. She's a much better dancer than Comfort, but that two-step was horrible and the judges were critical of the jazz piece she and Mark did. Plus she and Mark did not have much chemistry.
My two favorites are Will and Katee. I predict one of them will win.
Good morning Joanna
Based on Wed. performances, predicted Mark and Kherington in bottom 2 and a bit surprised Gev was sent home but as you say, Mark is more theatrical and trained. Gev put all his heart and soul into the competition every single week.
Kherington had one so-so night and more to do with the choreography and a new partner than her lack of any technical abilities. Her previous performances were thrilling to watch. Comfort is limited and out of her element and has thus far been lucky enough to squeak by fudging the routines but do not see her out dancing Chelsie, Courtney or Katee next week.
Twitch is still my man and would love to see him in the final 2. He Joshua and Will are amazing to watch; pure poetry in motion. I love this show!!
Hiya,
Yeah I predicted the bottom 4 this week and was wrong about the bottom 2 also.
I can rank my preferences for the men (don't get me wrong they're all phenomenal dancers so it's all based on feeling)
1 Twitch
2 Joshua
3 Will
4 Mark
Comfort is good, but she doesn't stack up against the other 3 women whom I am completely unable to choose between.
I'm so surprised to be caught up in a reality show, but watching what these amazing people can do is mesmerizing!
We were bummed that Gev's ride came to an end. I still think his solos are the best of any. But from here on out, I guess good dancers have to go home.
As for Kherington, I wasn't really sad to see her go. She was an early favorite of both my wife and me, but she hasn't progressed like the others. Unfortunately, she's the same dancer/person she was when she entered the competition which hasn't endeared her to us (unlike Katee, Joshua, Gev, Chelsie, Courtney - all of whom have grown leaps and bounds as we've watched).
And totally agree about Will - he was born to do this. Every movement, every step is exactly where it should be. Amazing.
I've got to say I've remained true to my favorite Joshua Allen! Beyond his talented dancing his shy, sweet personality just draws me in. I predict Josh for the WiN.
And yes I know she is considered talented and the dancers seem to love her but just the sight of Mia Michaels makes me want to hurl, and then she opens her mouth UGH I just can't tolerate her! I turn down the volume and close my eyes everytime she is on the show. YUCK YUCK YUCKY
I don't like her work either, it all looks the same to me!
Give me Tabitha and Napoleon over that GROSS old broad Mia any day of the week!
This is my first season watching this show and I must see, it is incredible! It is pure entertainment and all the dancers seem to possess a certain wonderful quality about them that I cannot pinpoint.
The show is mesmerizing and I can't believe how quickly the two hours go by. I feel like I've missed out on some great FREE entertainment missing the previous seasons.
This show is far better than American Idol in so many ways. I wish AI could steal "some of the magic" that this show possesses. Even the voting process is better where there is a bottom three and the judges determine who goes home until the bottom 10. AI could definitely use this until they got to the bottom six and then let America take over.
I love Twitch, Will and Josh (in no specific order). I think it's a lock that a guy will win this.
I was SHOCKED that Mark was in the bottom 2 boys, but it was because he was dragged down by his partner this week. He's technically a brilliant, and unique dancer. Let's not forget that. He's like the mad scientist who is sheer genius, kind of like the choreographers, Wade Robson or Tyce D'Orio. He brings something truly different to this show, which is why I hope he goes far, and could possibly even win the whole thing. He's definitely in my top 4.
Will, good dancer, but does nothing for me. He lacks something -- i've heard others say the same thing.
