TCA Update - ABC Round-up and Notable Quotes

Posted by Sarah Rodman July 21, 2008 07:54 AM

"I would put her in a coma. That's what I would do." "Ugly Betty" executive producer Silvio Horta responding to a question posed to "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes during the ABC showrunner's panel about Katherine Heigl's recent remarks.

"When I was told about it, I have to say that my reaction was that I found it surprising. I actually have a really wonderful working relationship with Katherine, and I love and respect her as an actress, and as everyone knows, Izzie is one of my favorite characters. So for me it was surprising, but Katie is an outspoken person, and I think we all know that already." -Rhimes on her reaction to Heigl's remarks.

"We did a tally recently after a fun conversation we were having on this very issue, and we've killed a lot of white people. I can almost guarantee you we will be killing more white people this season." -"Lost" showrunner Damon Lindelof answering a question about diversity in primetime.

"None of us expected that there would be the contingent of the audience that was as vocal as they were about disliking that storyline. Once we picked that horse, we sort of had to run with it. But I would say, hopefully, people that have been invested in the show will look at all the other qualities and things that they like and dig about the show and see that we're the same group of people that created those storylines too. And hopefully, they'll reinvest this year and they'll continue to enjoy the show." -"Brothers and Sisters" creator Greg Berlanti on the storyline that found Emily Van Camp's character Rebecca transitioning from presumptive Walker sibling to love interest of Justin Walker (Dave Annable).

"They don't want me to say it, but she's the mom." -"Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence on Sarah Chalke returning to CBS's "How I Met Your Mother" next season. (He was kidding).

"Is Seth [MacFarlane] doing another cartoon? Because he does so many other things. No way! A cartoon with another one of the characters from 'Family Guy'? It should be very different from 'Family Guy.'" - Lawrence taking a good-natured poke back at Seth MacFarlane's crack at him during the Fox animation panel.

"It's shocking because every time I've been with a hooker, there's never been any electronic trail whatsoever. I mean, if I'm not that stupid, how could he be that stupid? The guy graduated from frickin' Harvard. You know what I mean?" -William Baldwin on the parallels between his "Dirty Sexy Money" character, New York attorney general Patrick Darling, and the recent Spitzer scandal.

"Of course, this could be some clever ruse on my part to get tremendous amounts of money in Season 8, but who knows?" "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry on his decision to end the show after seven seasons.

"I can promise you there will be no iPods." Andre Nemec, producer of the new 1973-set drama "Life on Mars" regarding period authenticity.
