Tweet the Debates

Posted by Matthew Gilbert September 16, 2008 12:44 PM

Do you plan on being frustrated during the forthcoming presidential and vice presidential debates? Of course you do. But maybe there's an alternative to crying out loud and throwing things at your beautiful and expensive TV set?

In a partnership with Twitter, the cable TV channel Current is going to post Twitter messages -- Tweets -- onscreen during the live debates. So you'll send your Twitter comment, and -- if it's not obscene, or ridiculous, or too acronymic to be understood -- the Current-Twitter team will put it on the air. Here are the dates:

. Presidential Debate #1 – Friday, Sept. 26
· Vice Presidential Debate – Thursday, Oct. 2
· Presidential Debate #2 – Tuesday, Oct. 7
· Presidential Debate #3 – Wednesday, Oct. 15

Hey, if the idea is to engage young people in the election as thoroughly as possible, this isn't a bad idea. There's more info about the setup, which Twitter and Current are calling "Hack the Debate," here and here.

What do you think? Is this just Current-Twitter promotional gimmickry, or does it have more potential value?

  1. Bummer. Verizon doesn't carry Current. This would have made the debates much more fun.
