'SNL:' Let's move New Hampshire to Mexico!

Posted by Joanna Weiss October 24, 2008 09:28 AM

Will Ferrell was back to reprise his Bush impression, and Tina Fey was there again in all of her glory, but I'm feeling a sense of diminishing returns to the "Saturday Night Live" Sarah Palin schtick. I think it's probably election fatigue. At any rate, what really had me laughing at last night's "Weekend Update Thursday" was Fred Armisen's cheery and beautifully nonpartisan spoof of CNN's fancy-schmantzy digital touch-screen map...

  1. Fred was hilarious in that bit. When he made Michigan bounce at the end I laughed so hard.

  1. That was far & away the only reason to have caught this one. Agreed - the Pailn thing is more than played out at this point. Great to see Will back of course ...

  1. The Saturday Night Live on 10/18/08 and both the Thursday night shows have been the funniest SNL's I've seen in YEARS! Probably since the Chris Farley/Dana Carvey Days.

Amy Pohler and Seth Meyers are hilarious on weekend update, especially that rap song last Saturday! "All the plumbers out there, raise your pants in the air"

  1. I liked how on Weekend Update they had those funny bits of Biden not being able to count to four (a three letter word, Jobs, J, O, B, S, JOBS), and for saying that if Obama gets in that all these countries are going "to test us" and how Obama's response "won't make most of you happy". Yeah, that was so funny!!!! Oh wait, no, no they didn't do any bits on that. My bad. Then again, I'm sure if Palin made similar gaffs, SNL and heck the rest of the media, would equally give a pass.

  1. Doesn't it just suck to be a Republican right now... actually all the time!

SNL does topical humor, the Biden thing about jobs and the "test us" were really not big deals with anyone.

  1. Have to agree with others who have noted NBC's bias. I get that Wil Farrell is a special guest talent and that you have to take advantage of his Bush impression but is there really nothing worth poking fun at on the Dems side?

How about having the Obama guy come in late during the opening bit and measuring for curtains in a show of over confidence.

Some balance please. And I am voting for Obama.

  1. Right, Bruce! Censorship is so American! Read up on your Amendments, buddy. Maybe your beloved O'Reilly should be censored too.

  1. NBC has changed in my mind... they have shown that they prefer to promote a liberal candidate over fair coverage. SNL used to be full of jokes.. now it is a joke.

  1. I agree it does suck to be a Republican because now we are going to have to pay for Socialist ideoligies that you Demoncrats want passed. We need do away with the handouts, fix our infrastructure, keep taxes down, fund alternative fuel sources, and kick all those illegal immigrants out of our country. Spare me the bailout of Wall Street as a Republican Socialist fix and handout because what did the Democrats do to stop the deregulation of the finacial market. Absolutley nothing. They looked the other way as long as more loans went out to people who couldn't afford them through Fanny Mae and the others. You want to be a Socialist moove to Canada.

  1. Howard Stern said it when he was elected, "George Bush will bankrupt this country"

You may not like the guy(Stern) but he's pretty on target.

  1. So the downtrodden republicans think we need to censor our own thoughts about what is and what is not funny now? Sorry Charlie. Stop being so personally vested in a laughingstock and it won't hurt so much. Either quit whining or quit being so bloody hilarious.

  1. 8 years of republican rule got us here so all you whiners can suck it! What, dont you love the fruits of your republican rule? Isn't it paradise for you? Well, now its up to the dems to fix everything as usual. Remember the prosperity under the Clinton administration? Yeah, all you repubs were making lots of money then! So, shut up and let's get Obama in there and have some prosperous times again.

  1. "communist garbage...propaganda...socialist NBC needs to censored!"

so wait, as a republican, are you saying you want censorship, a la communist china?

  1. Dear Mr. Butts - how exactly do you propose to "fix our infrastructure...fund alternative fuel sources, and kick all those illegal immigrants out of our country" without money with which to do it?? Don't get me wrong, I like my paycheck as much as the next person, but this country couldn't operate if we didn't pay taxes ((especially the ones that can afford to do it!). That's common sense, not socialism. Although I'd take socialism over this sort of capitalism any day - at least we'd all have health care!

  1. All of a sudden, after 8 years of running roughshod over the country, the constitution, and thumbing their noses at any semblance of reasonable discourse - Republicans now have THIN SKINS? Now THAT is funny. SNL made fun of Bill Clinton for 8 years straight, and have had Obama in their sites for the past year. It isnt their fault the Republicans are utterly incompetent. In the Tina Fey bit on Sarah Palin, 75% of the lines were not written by Fey - they were quoted DIRECTLY from the transcript. Truly priceless.

  1. Barney and his illiterate, immoderate friends need their butts (pun intended) kicked. I find it fascinating that the right-wing fanatics cannot spell basic English ("moove"?) and actually celebrate their own ignorance. If I were John McCain, I would be embarrassed (and he probably is) to have so many truly stupid people in my camp. He deserves better. I'm not voting for him, but he deserves better. Although it is axiomatic (look it up, Barney Rubble) that one is known by the company one keeps.
