Thoughts for a windy Tuesday
1) Some TV commercials just make you go, "Hmmm." So it is with HSBC's ads that feature environmentalists battling it out with loggers (to a Joanna Newson score). Slate's John Swansburg, a Globe alumnus, investigates.
2) Just like last year (remember Tacoby Bellsbury?), Taco Bell is running a World Series-related taco promotion. And just like last year, Rhode Islander Jeremy Milner is spearheading a donate-your-taco effort. For more information, go to www.donateyourtaco.com.
3) After reading my review of "Paris Hilton's My New BFF," a couple of people emailed to ask what a "BFF" was (and some wondered if it was just a text-messaging thing). Nah, it's a girl thing. We wrote "BFF" in yearbooks back in my own, very-analog high school days. It means "Best Friend Forever."
On the texting front, though, a couple of people wondered if Paris's kiss-off, which I reported as "TTYM" or "Talk to you manana," was actually "TTYN" or "Talk to you never." Apparently there's some online debate on the subject -- since Paris has perfected that monotone mumble, it's hard to tell. Turns out, an MTV press release quotes her with "TTYN," so mea culpa for mishearing. But really, I think "TTYM" would be more fitting. "TTYN" makes her sound angry, but "TTYM" is about as dismissive as you can get, the equivalent of saying, "I've crushed your dreams? Whatever."
