Election night quotes of note
...from across the TV dial:
Brit Hume, Fox News Channel:
I had a phone call, just a week or so ago, at the height of the Bill Ayers flap when there was a lot being said about Obama, and a lot of issues in his past, which he perhaps had not fully explained – that were being brought to the fore - and this was a person that had worked with us at FOX News. An old friend of mine and Kim Hume’s, who was a part of what we have done at FOX for so long, and she called to tell me she knew him in college, and that ‘Barry’ as she called him was a great guy. That he is just a great guy. And you know what – every time I saw him, and watched him – I had a brief interview with him on the air the other day, and I thought to myself – this is a man you may possibly disagree with, this is a man who you may regard in some respects as risky or even dangerous – but you could not help but like him. This is an enormously appealing human being.
I think one of the problems with the issues that were raised about him, that had to do with whether he was dangerous or possibly radical based on his past associations – some of which certainly were radical – was that it just didn’t fit with the man you saw before your eyes. The man who stood and spoke to America over the past year or two, was simply not somebody you would look at say that guy is a radical.
Byron Pitts, CBS News:
“I called my mom -- black woman born in the segregated South. She is 76 years old. She was born at a time in this country when it would’ve been dangerous for her to look a white woman in the eye or a white man in the eye. I said ‘Mama, what do you think? She said baby I just got four words for you. Glory Hallelujah! Glory Hallelujah!”
Campbell Brown, CNN:
"OK, Obi-Wan."

what is, is now we have to really handle the problems not just talk about them ,the state and the nation are in a mess, and with most of the poloticians who put us in this mess elected again ??????????????
No, Mr. Carney. Most of the politicians who put us in this mess are behind us and out the door. Now that Obama is in, and has a Democratic House and Senate to work with, things will get done.
Whether the things done will bear positive fruit remains to be seen. But, there will be little in the way of blocking legislation-- at least for the next couple of years.
As for Brit Hume's comments...kind of a strange sort of back-handed compliment, I'd say. Dangerous? And, Bush and Cheney WEREN'T???
Time to pay attention a little bit more, Mr. Carney. Don't start preparing your argument that this is "his fault" already.
This could be one of the greatest moments in american history. Not because of Obama's race but because of the masses deciding "enough is enough". The type of ground-swelling effort and campaign Obama used and rode to victory was driven by the youth, minorities, and other growing groups in the country. Standard republican voters turned and voted for him, people who never voted before came out and stood in line, all those "hillary" votes that were supposed to be spilt b/w him and McCain went to Obama.
A lot of promises have been made by him and I am looking forward to seeing what he does. Please Obama, do what you said you would do. We voted for you based upon this and it is your duty to do so. If Obama does what he said, this country will be off to a great "re-start". Whether you are republican, Dem or other, we have a chance to make a real difference. Let it be. I truly hope part of Obama's new cabinet will consist of some republicans. It is time we stop having a formal split among the partylines. It is time we really get back to worrying about who stands for what and not if they are affiliated with xyz.
I voted for Obama and am proud I did. I am not a minority (I am white and very average and in the 35-45 year old bracket). I see and seek hope and unity. I pray we get what we need and Obama has the strength and drive to make the changes we are so deparately calling out for.
Did anyone see Gore Vidal on the BBC? Those were some priceless quotes!
