'Idol:' Everybody Loves Somebody
The rundown on Standards Night: Five contestants left. One hyperenthusiastic mentor in Jamie Foxx, who has coined new favorite "Idol" term for me: "The Throat Olympics." One truthful admission from Randy that he sounds like a broken record. Two dinner napkins apparently sitting on the front of Paula's dress. Four faithful, respectful renditions of Rat Pack tunes. One Adam Lambert. Zero clunkers or absolute train wrecks. One pretty entertaining show. Let's break it down.
Kris Allen. I really liked his "The Way You Look Tonight," particularly in the beginning: It was sultry and smooth and, while it wasn't the Throat Olympics, it still proved he has vocal chops. I actually wished the arrangement hadn't gone uptempo in the second half; I found him more compelling when he did the slow ballad.
Allison Iraheta. I'm not exactly sure why Simon's so hard on her, because I find her to be quite likable -- a real, live, not-weirdly-precocious 17-year-old girl who happens to have an incredibly precocious voice. I liked her "Someone to Watch Over Me." I thought it was sweet that Jamie Foxx told her to think about her family. (And this show made me really love Jamie Foxx. He's spastic in all the right ways.)
Matt Giraud. As I watched him sing "My Funny Valentine," I was thinking, a) That's a really tough song, and b) If he were singing it well enough, I wouldn't be thinking about how tough the song is. But then I remembered something famed "Idol" blogger MJ Santilli told me last week: that Matt sounds better on iTunes than he does on the performance shows. (That's the reason she thinks Simon and the producers have been backing Matt. They think he'd sound good on the radio.) So I rewound his performance and listened with my eyes closed. And it was, indeed, better. Maybe it was just because I didn't have to see that hat.
Danny Gokey. I've been bored with him for weeks now, but you know what? Not tonight. Tonight, I actually liked him, especially when he channeled Taylor Hicks at the end of "Come Rain or Come Shine." Kara and Simon said he's needed that Rat Pack swagger, but I actually think they had it backwards. Danny already has that Rat Pack swagger, a slightly-smarmy sense of self-assuredness, so when he sings earnest ballads, they come across as totally insincere. Tonight, he sang like a self-absorbed, uppity, talented guy, and it was good.
Adam Lambert. Wow. They really let him have a grand entrance, and he took full advantage. I was a little apprehensive when he announced he'd be singing "Feeling Good," which is so overused in the audition rounds. But leave it to Adam to do something totally different with the song. Honestly, between the preening and the tongue, he made me think of a vampire, and there seemed a less-than-slight chance that he'd dive into the audience and chomp on someone's neck. But my love for him has not diminished: This was weird, but it was brave, and you have to admit he's the boldest contestant "Idol" has ever seen.
Who's gone? I still think it's Matt's time. And if he manages to squeak through, then Allison might be in trouble, since she's been there before. We're headed to a Kris-Danny-Adam top three, and at that point, anything goes.
Agree? Disagree? Hash it out in the comments, then come back here tomorrow at 10 for our weekly "Idol" chat.

I LOVE Danny. Adam is great fun but I think Idol is too small a stage for him. I don't think TV is his medium--it's too close up. Danny has a laidback style that suits TV, which requires a little coolness. Allison is fun, the Janis Joplin voice on a good little girl, but I hate the pile of shmattas she wears and the matted greasy hair. My money is on Danny.
kris- good, but unremarkable. I didn't think this song fit his voice as well as things he's done in the past.
Allison - Awesome. My favorite of the night, if not the season. I don't understand Simon at all on this one. (Perhaps she was the slightest bit mechanical, but come on!)
Matt- Good, but not great. His tone was really weird at times. I did listen to this one again, and I did like it much better the second time after I got used to it. I don't get Simon tonight, though. The paranoid side of me is thinking he has a bit of an agenda.
Danny - Probably my favorite performance by him. I think Joanna nailed why.
Adam - If you like Adam (and I do) that was great.
Overall a very good night. Maybe it was the theme, the mentor, or the fact that all the dead weight is gone?
It is an absolute tossup as to who goes home. Adam is safe, but beyond that, any of the other four could go. I agree whoeheartedly with this article though. The reason anyone could go is that they ALL did a great job. I do NOT want Allison to go, but if forced to guess who is going home, it would be her
AS ALWAYS...IT'S ADAM.....HANDS DOWN
Yes - Adam Lambert is theatrical. Which is why his concerts will be absolutely amazing! I'm 48 and will be standing in line to get one of the first tickets. And BTW, vampires are hot right now! I agree that it will be an Adam/Danny/Kris final three.
Adam Lambert is just having fun! Hes had this wrapped up since day one. He reminds me of David Cook. They are older so it only took a couple of performances to see what they really needed to do to win this thing. Adam is a awesome entertainer, hands down. The supposed second in line, Danny really sours me, though he did pretty good tonight. They all did good tonight. Matt will probably be the one to go, but whos guess is a mystery! Adam Lambert is the next American Idol and has worked hard and earned it!
This competition is Adam's to lose. I liked Danny tonight which was a bit of a surprise as he's been boring me recently. Kris is solid as always and i think he channels a certain laid-back vibe that is really popular with kids now. i love allison but i fear for her tomorrow. i really like matt too and have to think it is one of them that will be shown the door tomorrow night. this is a weird american idol year. the only 1 i think is kind of obnoxious is danny. that heart thing he made with his hands - please. maybe it is because i don't grock 'christian rock'. whatever. liked him better earlier but it wore off. but who cares about AI because Lost is new tomorrow!
this season has been the best as far as talent goes.top three, danny, adam and allison. time for matt to go,then kris. way to much fanfare given to adam tonight with lighting and stairs, but i must say , he can perform. allison really has a great voice for such a young lady. my choice is danny.
It's fairly obvious in what direction Simon is trying to steer things, isn't it?
I thought Allison's performance was amazing. What boggles my mind is that some people (the judges included) speak about her performance level being beyond her years as if this is a BAD thing -- as if she's overreaching and should act her age more -- and penalize her for it. It's asinine. If she's this good at 17, why wouldn't people simply enjoy it and look forward to where she'll be when she IS older? She belongs in the top four, but given America's voting history with her, I'm afraid for her this week.
The one doesn't belong up there (aside from the Screeching Wonder, about whom I've all but given up on trying to talk sense into people) is Matt. His falsetto is grating, and he misses too many notes.
I still believe in the close your eyes, forget the back stories, just listen. In all the weeks I have been watching I think of the remaining 5 the people who's voice I most enjoy listening to are Allison, Adam, and Matt. I think having a distinctive and different voice is key. One that defines you and doesnt just sound like anyone else. When you hear each of the three you know who it is. I think Danny and Kris have great voices, just nothing defining or spectacular.
OH BOY!! what an incredibly talented group... incredible!!!
Danny was spectacular tonight - goose bumps spectacular!!!, Adam was breath taking, he is already a star, he is so polished with his moves, singing and connecting with the audiance, he seems too big for American Idol, he can just pull anything off (are we sure he is not already a super star?) ;; Chris has come a long way and is very seducing who could not love him!! Matt is ... just another guy - I don't see enthusiasm in him, he just does not ooze! Allison in tremendous at her age, one talented amazing young lady, but also, I think, this is too big for her!!
It should have been Matt's time a few weeks ago. It's not that he is not good. It's just the rest of them are better. I have always tried to keep an open mind about Simon, but tonight, I did not like Simon. I don't know why he is so gung ho Matt, but enough. I wasn't sure about Kris, but you are right...he did pretty well tonight. I'd really like to see Alison in the final 3. She has always reminded me of having that same quality as Kelly Clarkson, and still after all these weeks has "IT." People need to give her more of a chance. Don't vote based on what Simon says. She has an amazing voice. One doesn't need to have an ego to be great. Go Alison !
Adam is at another level------his voice in this song is impeccable and his showmanship out of this world. he's the man, the winner of this season by a HUGE gap.
Listen to this song again-he is incredible.

If this season was a prize fight, it would have been stopped long ago, with Adam declared the winner by TKO.
I guess he could pick a clunker in the end, but what are the chances?
What was Simon talking about? I think Simon is judging EGOS not singing this week.
I loved Allison's and Kris's performances. They were favorites besides Adams. I love Kris's sexy, smooth voice. I love Allison's brashness. I think Simon is judging people BASED on ego and not on talent.
Close your eyes and listen to them. These were the top people. I can't believe it, but I actually agree with Simon. Matt G. took some risks with the notes and shined!! I really enjoyed his performance more than any of his previous ones. Kris Allen surprised me with a sensual and sexy vocal. It was not over the top, but he got my attention tonight. Kris connects with the audience like Adam. Both are adorable!! Adam and Danny were just all right tonight. Overall everyone did a pretty decent job. Too bad the save is already used. At this stage all are putting up a good fight. Adam is still my favorite and should win American Idol based on consistant and incredible perfomances week after week. Personally, I feel Allison or Kris should be in the number 2 spot, not Danny. Danny is so over rated and sounds the same on all his songs to me.
Kris A.
Matt G.
Adam
Allison
Danny
Patty
I agree that I am bewildered as to negatives on Allison.
I thought her performance excellent, third behind Adam and Danny Gokey. Normally I would consider her second behind Adam and still do for the finals.
Clearly Adam is the most talented...but way to go Allison! Danny Gokey is starting to creep me out...and Matt's performance was as Randy said "pitchy."
If Adam doesn't win the whole thing it will be robbery.
Adam is electrifying! I always look forward to him every week. When he performs, I don't always know what he's doing w/ a song, but I can't take my eyes off him. And that voice! Plus I think about what he's done long afterwards.....
I felt the exact opposite on Kris. Would have preferred the song to be uptempo throughout. I was bored by the performance.
I think Allison and Danny are my faves. And Adam belongs on broadway. NOT American Idol. Sure, he can sing, but I'm not a fan. Sorry!
I love Adam. I love the fact that he dares to be different. I also like Kris, Alison and Danny. Sorry, Matt, but the hats have to go. You look like a Justin Timberlake-wannabe. Be yourself instead.
What was Simon up to except covering his butt and trying to influence the outcome? He told Allison two weeks ago that she appeared to have finally gotten the confidence that she could win the "competition." Now all of a sudden she doesn't have it? What has changed? Nothing in her performance or demeanor that I can see. In fact, last night she was more subtle (for her) and mature than ever. He's covering his butt because he thinks she won't win.
Matt was pitchy, awful, a real clunker of a performance but Simon declared him "brilliant," covering his butt to justify using the save. Matt has given more mediocre performances than anyone. I kept comparing his version with Melinda Doolittle's. He might as well head home.
Love the line about the dinner napkins. Perfect.
Kris had a little Sinatra body-vibe going on. Still don't like him as a singer. And the song went up tempo just to go up tempo. It was an awkward transition that didn't work.
Didn't get why everyone raved about the typical Danny showing, either. Thought the band overpowered the vocal.
Found Adam a total turn-off with the preening and the vamping and the tongue. I am a little sick of him going completely outside every genre with his own extremist interpretation of everything. He's bold, he's daring, but still derivative. Not a genius. Deano, Sinatra and Sammy would have kicked him out of the Rat Pack for pulling a stunt like that. I think Adam has finally realized that the quickest way to ruin his life would be to win American Idol. He's trying to get himself kicked off by turning on the more obvious elements of his charm. He's done what he needed to do to jump start his career. He certainly doesn't need to be managed by these clowns for the duration.
Adam is a great stage performer, but I do not want to hear him screech on my radio.
.....is this the only thing going on in the world? You people need to get a life!
WHO CARES!!!! This is the most overated show on TV.
Em - it's obvious you haven't been to a concert in 20 years. Music today is all about theater - the sets, costume changes, dancers. Adam would put on an amazing show. The sign of how good he is? People talk about his performances and look forward to what he will do the next week. Can't say the same about Danny. Too boring, and the only reason he has got as far as he has is because of his personal story. I don't think he'd be very successful beyond an initial album. Adam can do whatever he wants - doesn't need the title but deserves it.
i think adam is incredible - he just has an amazing voice - i like kris second and then allison. i think for someone her age she can really sing. i like danny but just not his style. if anyone goes home it should be matt - he is good and can sound like a justin timberlake kind of voice when he sings but i think it is time for him to go. simon was giving everyone a hard time last night and sometimes he is so totally opposite of the other judges - he can sometimes be harsh and state you have no chance of winning - and then i wish someone would shock him- what is up with him this year -and his he the head person this year -
This was the week ,I thought, that I finally don't have to hear Adam screech and he managed to still do it. I started laughing at him when he did because he is so predictable with his arrangements.
I liked Danny much better this week. Kris, who is my favorite, was ok. Matt and Allison were pretty strong as well. Should be an interesting results show.
I agree Nancy.. I wish Adam could tone it down a little. I have been impressed with him overall but I don't love the screeching. He has a great voice, he doesn't need to do that. I think he would have more fans if he could get that under control more. I also think it was disrespectful to screech like that when you are doing Rat Pack songs. He doesn't have to change up EVERY song.. why not just sing it like it was meant to be sung and let us enjoy his voice?
Danny was my winner last night. I felt a connection there.

Yet again, I agree with Andy Anonymous - if The Screeching Wonder is SO good, why hasn't he been discovered already? I predict he won't be the big seller that so many people think he is.
Kris and Allison did the best tonight - close your eyes, and Kris had this genre down pat. His styling is very popular right now (whereas The Screeching Wonder belongs on Broadway only, IMO).
Danny? Meh. I've not liked him for several weeks. Each and every song is chosen to remind you of his personal loss. Enough is enough.
Matt should be the one to go - he's toast. The falsetto wasn't that good.
I do have to say that I really REALLY liked Jamie Foxx's critiques. And I like that his #1 pick is Kris over The Screeching Wonder. :-)
BTW - Dialidol.com has Matt at the bottom, but the votes all seem close enough that they won't call it. (I'm seriously hoping that Adam in 2nd place actually happens. Wouldn't THAT just burst his big ego bubble?)
Yes- Adam's performance was good... but it wasn't creative. He sang an almost identical version of the Muse cover of "Feeling Good". He's still the best singer and performer of the bunch, but I think he should have given Muse some credit for the arrangement.
Was looking forward to Rat pack night figuring it would weed out the weak, in theory. Instead it brought out the best in all of the top 5. It's just that some were a bit better at it than others,
Kris was good and I agree about the tempo change - not a smooth transition and should have kept more to the original.
Alison was great and the song was perfect for her vocals. Why Simon decided to railroad her based on her confidence level is beyond comprehension. One minute he is saying it's a singing contest and forget all the other remarks and then he goes and pulls the confidence card on her - not fair. She was wonderful!
Danny was amazing. His rendition of Rain or Shine reminded me why I had him pegged for the finals from his audition. He was smooth, jazzy, and put a slightly updated spin on the song without butchering it. He’s not going anywhere.
Matt did a good job on My Funny Valentine but he does lose control of his vocals. This was one song he could have hit a grand slam with but did not bring it. For Simon to praise him and slam Alison seemed to me more about Simon wanting to one up Randy last night.
Adam – that was some entrance befitting a 1940’s Hollywood musical. Where were the girls lined along the stairs with the gigantic feather headdresses and sequined costumes? Feeling Good ? Not so much. Note to ADAM. By now and week after week we know you can screech like you are the love child of Robert Plant and Steven Tyler but it did not belong in Feeling Good. Too vampy, campy, call it what you will, if ever there was a moment of self indulgence, it was last night’s performance. Can he sing? You bet. He should have skipped Idol and gone straight to NYC and Broadway. Adam is beyond Idol and is starting to look like the big fish in the little pond.
Who’s going home? I think Kris, Matt and Alison might have the lowest votes and thanks to Simon’s comment, Alison might be seeing the end of the road which would be a shame however I think Matt is done.
Love Adam, but he's almost doing karaoke of himself. The "held" note was amazing, but sometimes I wish he didn't show all the screaming and surprise us with tenderness. It would be novel. Allison was last night's best. Hate her look, but love that voice. Also liked Danny, but he struggles with performance. All these guys, except Kris, look bad in a suit. Adam's white suit didn't fit and he should have gone shark-skin...Disco night was last week. Kris' low and slow start was pitchy. Not his best performance, but I think he's got a great shot. And then there's Matt. Were those ears holding up the hat? Can we retire the hat? Can we stop hiding behind pianos and hats? Is there a fun, up-tempo 'rat pack' song out there? Of course there is. Matt........ahhhhhhhhhhhhhbu-bye.
Adam Lambert as the rat pack?? please.... Frank Dean and Sammy are rolling over in their graves! That screeching, that tongue, ugh! Put him on Broadway, he'll do great there. He's into performing which is different than singing a song from the heart. Michael Buble owns Feeling Good, thank heavens I've seen him live a few times to know what a song that can be, Adam's was a poor copy in parts ( stairs, suit, tie ) of Michael's with lots of bad stuff tossed in. The rest, I'm rooting for Matt, he DOES sound great on itunes, the rest were pretty good too, it's going to be interesting tonight.
I think Alison is amazing! Can you just imagine what she is going to be like in a few years! Alison to win!!!
Before I even read any of this, I have to say...wtf is up with Idol? How come Adam got a stage, special lights and a white suit and everyone else was normal? How can they even call this competition fair.
Seriously tho, Adam is disgusting. Yeah, he can sing...but mostly it's just screeching. I have friends who sound just like him and they aren't on Idol.
Adam belongs on Broadway singing his head off...he does not deserve a record contract. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am tired of his 80's metal hair band screaming..he's terrible...I just wish the rest of the world wasn't blind...or deaf..
I'm tired of them just handing it to Adam. How many times has he been the last or penultimate singer on the show??? Way toooo "broadway" for me. And he doesn't sing, he screeches and screams. I'm sooo over him.
They might as well end the show now. Adam is going to win no matter what, especially thanks to the special treatment he gets..special stairs, special lights, special suits oh and what a suprise, he always goes last which statictically gets the most votes...hmm.
Joanna -
If this show made you love Jami Foxx, you should watch his Inside the Actors Studio interview. I didn't know (or care) much about him before I saw it and came away with a real sense of respect for him and all that he has been able to accomplish.
Adam sucks. Why does he scream like a teenage girl? Can't stand him. Thank god Danny was back tonight.
#38 Adam Hater For Life...I heart you for saying that! You are soooo right! What was with the over-the-top entrance? Last night was clearly The Adam Lambert Show. Surprised they didn't have an orchestra backing him up. Good call!!!
To the Idiot post # 26 you are on here posting so you must be paying attention to the show what a moron. l would love to see Allison stay but Simon gave her the kiss of death with his comments.Never a big fan of Danny but I think he and Adam are the final two and would not be shocked if Danny wins.Alexis Grace still got screwed.
Thought last night was really good overall --- I really hate Danny and as much as I hate to admit it - his was probably his best performance this season. I fear for Allison/Kris/Matt though - I don't know what drugs Simon was on to give Kris and Allison negative remarks - neither of them deserved it - the consensus among my group of friends is that he's trying to influence a Danny/Adam finale. It pisses me off that he'd stoop that low.
Next to Taylor Hicks, Adam Lambert has entertained me more than any other contestant, bar none. With Taylor, I couldn't wait to see him and listen and applaud, everything he did just made me happy. Adam does almost the same thing but in an entirely different way. Adam the incredible and Taylor the adorable.
Before I get wound up and go on forever, I do wish Adam would not stick the tongue out for so long, it is such a turnoff. That big whiiteish looking thing with the cameras closed in out it, now come on now. And I don't understand the screeching comments, maybe tone down just a hair the so called screeching.
Allison gave her best performance of the saeson last night. Simon knows that this is more than a singing competition - that it is actually a tv show that needs drama - that's why he slammed Allison (after she was praised) and praised Matt (after he was somewhat slammed).
Those people who say they will be going to see Adam Lambert in concert...people were saying teh same thing about Taylor Hicks. 2 years from now you will probaby pass on "Adam Lambert in concert" if you get your hands on some Green Day tickets for the same weekend.
oh..forgot to add that I love the comment by Joanna about the dinner napkins..hysterical....and A Dingo Ate My Baby- the "love child of Robert Plant and Steven Tyler" comment was spot on!
Speaking of slightly-smarmy sense of self-assuredness it fits Adam to a tee, except for the slightly. Far over promoted by judges and you. Top three: Allison, Danny, and Matt.
ADAM LAMBERT has a rainbow aura circling round him --- it’s name is TALENT.
He is one COOL / HOT entertainer -- with a killer voice, second to none. Good luck in the count Adam Lambert -- you knocked ‘um dead, and showed us what’s it’s really like down deep inside your soul ! You are one of a kind on stage, a devilish angel in the deliverance of music. See you at the Finale big guy. I love your shy flirty smile along with your to-die-for physical gorgeousness, together with your one of a kind, supercalifragilesticexpealidocias VOICE ! Bring it (?) YOU DID !
Sharie? Are you Adam's mother? The kid is terrible..he should be running around on stage singing in a leotard to "Aerosmith on Broadway". He's ridiculous and shouldn't ever be taken seriously.
Adam is amazing ! but not an American Idol He is his own person, different unique and will be very popular on his own I am sure ! the american Idol should be either Chris or Allison!
So happy to see that people are finally getting tired of the "boy wonder". Everyone's comments are right. Yeah he can sing but he doesn't belong on Idol he belongs on Broadway. Who would want to listen to him screeching on the radio? LOL and some of the posts. Go Gokey!
adam lambert will ruin idol. and idol will ruin him.
he is definitely talented but should probably go to broadway or find some way to get connected with marilyn manson or the rocky horror picture show.
could you imagine him dueting with david cook or carrie underwood or ANYONE? he's so conceited and narcissistic it's heartbreaking. he's creepy and devilish and evil. I will probably never watch idol again if he wins. And honestly, who is really going to buy his CD and listen to it over and over again?
Allison has a great voice. I was very impressed with her performance last night. I will be very disappointed if she is not in the top two. I kind of like Adam but there is something there that creeps me out. Can't put my finger on it though. The rest can sing but are mediocre at best with no superstar potential.
I'm rooting for Danny. A truly clear and never off key voice! He doesn't come across as cockey. Adam is great but it's like he's holding his own show and is doing this show only to show everyone that he's interviewed with the last three years what they've missed. Kris is a good lounge singer, but not great.
Out of all the REAL JAZZ MUSICIAN'S that American Idol could have brought in (Wynton Marsalis and Diana Krall) to name a few, they bring in JAMIE FOXX??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? He's nothing but an actor with a " I wanna be a muscian" complex.....an absolutely laughable situation. Nice job American Idol....what a joke!!
It's apparent none of them really understood the genre and to have Jamie Foxx mentor them? That is simply crap no matter how you look at it.
Kris - This guy nailed it last week with "She Works Hard For The Money", but this week he had absolutely no rhythmic sense to the song. It swung like a dead monkey and was way to sterile for me.
Matt - Dude can you hear your monitors? Very pitchy and the pseudo-soul flourishes were completely inappropriate for that type of song. He is the next one gone.
Allison - Still my hands down favorite. She could sing the phonebook and I would love it, but this was not my favorite performance. She runs the risk of getting the boot.
Danny - Cannot stomach this guy to save my life. However, he nailed the end of the song, even if he oversang it. I was impressed for once, but how do you market Danny Gokey? Taylor Hicks is a decent comparison, but Taylor was way more sincere in his delivery.
Adam - Interesting if not weird version of the song but without a doubt again the MOST ENTERTAINING. Can his "broadway, over the top" style translate to the radio, live concerts and videos? Perhaps.......Adam may actually take this all the way because of his sheer gutsiness of delivery and performance.
Thanks for enduring my rant......
.
"Adam screeches." "No one will listen to that on the radio." "He sounds like the love child of Robert Plant and Steven Tyler." Nah, no one would listen to THEM on the radio.
Please.
I think Adam is going to win this thing hands down.
I like Kris a lot and could listen to a record of his ballards. I also think Adam has the best voice of anyone that has ever sang on American Idol. I have never heard his voice go out of pitch. Allison has a great voice for a 17 year old. This should be the final 3.
Matt doesn't belong this far into the season. Danny has a good voice but he's boring. He sounds just like every other singer. There's nothing unique about his voice.
I like Adam, his talent, etc. But, why haven't any of the judges told him his better suited for Broadway like they have told others? Case in point -- Clay Aiken was once told that during his season.......
Hey Sharie? (#50) - you're SO not Adam's type. That "shy flirty smile and to-die-for physical gorgeousness" (good lord, can it get any more disgusting?) isn't put out there for you. Your slobbering all over him will mean absolutely nothing to him.
Yet again - if he was actually THIS good, why has no record company signed him? Why perhaps because they also see he's not really "all that"???
Next time Adam sings close your eyes for a second and tell me if he doesn't sound like he should be a drag queen standing on a broadway stage...ughhh I'm so all done with him and his nasty tounge screeching...I will probably never watch Idol again if he wins...So dissapointed!!!!
Why am i saying anything.
Anyway, they were all good last night. Some a bit better. Simon truly does not want Allison to win.
Even the dreaded Danny Gokey who I can't stand.
Matt G. should go because he's already been saved twice and he won't get rid of the hat.
Adams voice is like nails on a chalkboard...
I love Adam! He is so entertaining and I would definitely listen to his CD "over and over again". His voice is amazing!!!
I wish Danny would go home tonight. I can't stand him. I think his voice is good, but he is boring. There's nothing special about him. But I'm guessing that Matt will be the one to go home tonight.
Allison and Kris did well also. I'm hoping the final three are Adam, Allison, and Kris. That would be perfect!
I did not like Adam's performance last night, he just goes way over the top and to be honest I would not buy his CD. I would buy the CD's of all the other contestants except him. Matt and Chris have surprised me from the beginning, they will make albums, as will Allison.
Would someone please ask Allison to PRONOUCE THE WORDS when she sings. I like her voice but the mumble/slurring is driving me nuts. Adam has entertainment value when watching him, but I don't think I would keep the radio station on if a song of his was on the radio. Try listening with your eyes closed...Finally pleased with Danny who seemed like he put in an effort to entertain this week rather that just show up and sing like prior weeks.
Couldn't care less. Stopped watching a while back. I predict that none of these finalists will become real stars. Adam Lambert might be good in a revival of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".
Replying late and after reading the chat transcript (JoJo - can we move the chats to noon on Weds.? :).
Kris - thought he was great, really warming to him but was the arrangement/timing off?
Allison - wasn't my favorite performance of hers but I really like her. I fear she might be in trouble, though, tonight due to Simon's agenda.
Matt - Have been a big fan all along but I guess his time has come. Still need to check out iTunes to see if he sounds better. Also, I noticed that when they show rehearsal and goof around clips wiht Matt playing with the others, he always sounds great. Then it is time for his performance and he kind of falls flat.
Danny - thought he was great last night but still can't get past the phoniness. E-G-O.
Adam - Never a huge fan but I think he issuper talented and disagree with some of the other posters - I think he is humble and gracious. Why does he always get the pimp spot?
Agree totally with #38. What's with 'The Adam Show'? He makes my ears bleed every time he opens his mouth. He's way too Broadway for this show and it makes me mad that that judges criticize others for singing in a manner they consider too "Broadway", but yet this jerk gets treated like the best singer in the world when he sounds like he should be onstage in Rent. Know what though, let him win idol. Out of all these seasons the show has been on, only two people who've actually won the competition has made a name for themselves and every other winner has had a suck-a$$ production crew on their album and never sold. The others will be fine
And they still couldn't get them all in in under an hour. what a bunch of gas bags.
I still can't see Adam having radio success. He's a broadway star, though. Think a grown-up Zac Efron.
I also don't get the whole Danny fanfare... He's not that good. Really. Close your eyes (we'll call it the Matt test) and listen to him. Though he was better tonight, it still doesn't make him better than, say, Alison. Matt's not great either.
Kris is the marketable, young, stylish NOW artist. He's got some Jason Mraz in him, but also a little of that laid back Jack Johnson stuff... He should win, but if he doesn't, he'll be the most successful of the top 5.
To post # 44....the real morons are the ones who think these people have talent...like yourself and waste time watching it.
Did anyone notice Simon and Paula had no interraction at all last night and his body language was so apparent to be separate from the other judges. If anyone saw Paula on Nightline my guess is that would be the reason.
It is very interesting to read everyone's comments. Last night's show was pretty good. In order of performance - Kris was good but not great; Allison did a great job with the song but was judged unfairly by Simon. Matt also did a fairly good job but it could have been so much better. Danny's performance was the best he's done so far. Then there's Adam. He has been consistent with all of his performances - week after week. All of you who think that he only screams and screeches really need to have your hearing checked because you can't possibly be hearing what the majority of people who like him hear. I will admit that I think he is the best performer that they've ever had on American Idol. He reaches out to many different genres. He could possibly become one of the greatest artists of our time.
Almost 50 in the Idols club. Prox 40 LOVE him, the others HATE him. No in between. Still 80% love factor ain't bad. Allison is the only other contender that has an interesting sound and is NOT boring. Danny has that same smokey influence that we like but he suffers from a terrible lack of charisma which traslate into ... BORING. Kris BORING... don't see the love for him. Matt should have been booted earlier and it's his time to go. My favorites... #1. Adam; #2 Allison; #3. Danny #4. Kris; #5 Matt. But the TWEENS do most of the voting so Allison may be in trouble.
Adam is creepy! I don't understand all this adulation. Yes he has talent but not as a mainstream pop artist which is generally what AI spawns. He is so much more suited for a vampy, dark run on Broadway. Go Allison and Danny!
I get that Adam has talent, but I think more as a stage performer than a recording artist. I heard a clip of his performance on the radio this morning and, I'm sorry, he flat-out screeched. In the likeness of a cat in heat or a bad 80's big hair band. I don't know, I can't get behind him. It makes me sad that Allison keeps getting the shaft--I think her bluesy voice is fantastic. Who cares if she has red hair? I feel like the key is to listen with your eyes closed--you find out so much more that way...
Top #2
Adam and Allison
as much as I love Adam he needs to stop screaming in every song
some songs don't call for all that screaming and makes you sound
pretentious. Allison has that raspy voice, I like it cause its not so sweet
and sickening, its fresh and listenable
I don't like that Adam has already been on Broadway.. ofcourse he knows how to put on a good performance, he has the experience. I like Idols like Carrie Underwood, that really have come out of nowhere..
With the exception of Adam, the contestants have no pizazz and are quite boring.
I'm calling this season, American Idle.
I can understand why some people don't care for Adam's singing, although the personal venomous attacks are unnecessary. His so-called screeching style is not for everyone. But the large majority of people see the same thing I do: A once-in-a-lifetime singer who's closest "competitor" is dead: Freddie Mercury. Adam's technical ability is jaw-dropping. I bet if iTunes put his first (as yet unmade) album on their pre-order list, it would go platinum before the end of this competition. He's that good. I would pay BIG money to see him perform. One last thing... As for the comments about his personal orientation... get over it. Are we really still discussing that tired issue in 2009?
Loved this show....they were all spectacular. And I am one of the biggest critics. Jamie's take on Allison is so wrong though. A seventeen year old not being old enough to be in love???? HELLO? A seventeen year old probably can emote being in love better than anyone......(Been there... done that.....yep I was seventeen once...)
Still love Adam... But .....WOW this girl has talent
sorry-I was trying to edit and my comment was sent.
Adam knows he can do Broadway. He performs in intimate caberet settings. He has the gifted ability to adapt. He has publically stated he knows he forgets to tone it down on AI sometimes. Again, that is not the point. He has been working with a former Madonna collaborator and writing songs for a while. He has a rock band and would love to pursue that avenue now.
By being on AI, he can test uncharted water with an invisible life vest and to the other VERY talented contestants dismay, he will only sink if and when he
chooses.
p.s. The others ARE talented and with trustworthy guidance have a great opportunity to be successful. Unfortunately, they jumped aboard AI when the
full throttle Adam Express blew through town!
That the final night will unlikely be a savory showdown between Adam and Allison is a cryin' shame, because they are the top two talents, hands down. Gokey and Chris are also spectacular and will no doubt record, but they are not quite in the same league. Matt should never have been saved, not because he isn't good, but because he's not good enough. Allison is being sabotaged by Simon's careless comments.

"Michael Buble owns Feeling Good, thank heavens I've seen him live a few times to know what a song that can be"
Michael Buble? It talent were a requirement, all Michael Buble would own would be a cardboard box under a bridge.
I loved Adam's entrance. It reminded me of Peter Gallagher in a movie called ...ironically called "The Idolmaker" where his character "Chez" Ascends stairs during this grand number...
Go Adam for the win
Simon can be a total ass sometimes, which is why I feared for Allison last night. Thank God she and Danny were the two TOP vote getters. Maybe people out there voting actually DO have minds of their own and don't put much stock in Simon's opinions after all. Allison was the best of the night, and I think she's been nothing short of supurb for weeks now.
Sorry about Matt going, but, somebody had to, and you knew it wouldn't be Adam (even if he DID find himself in the bottom three...what happened???), or Danny, or even Kris.
I want to see an Allison and Adam finale, and I want Allison to win. I also want the Celtics to win another title this year without KG, the economy to correct itself by the weekend, and, oh, yeah, world peace.
I agree with the gal that said, next to Taylor ...Adam is hands down the most entertaining contestant ever! He may be over the top, but I can't wait to see what he does, he makes it exciting, just like Taylor did ....I would go to an Adam concert..just like I went to TAYLOR'S!! That said....Danny has been my choice from the start, the man has a wonderful voice...and like Randy says...it's a SINGING contest! So ...gooooooooooooooooooooo Danny! I don't want to offend any Matt fans, but I am so glad he's finally gone. Anoop should have stayed, and Matt should have been long gone...my opinion of course. I also really like Allison, I don't get all the negetive comments from Simon.
Adam is simply one of the best male vocalists in the world. He belongs as much in a theatre as Freddie Mercury did. You can dislike his style, his persona, but you can not say that he sings out of tune, or does not have a bizarre vocal range.
As brilliant as the rest are, I think having Adam on the show really demonstrates why most AI contestants do not get anywhere after the show. As good as most contestants appear week in and week out, next to a true professional, the lack of quality really shows.
It must also be really hard to be a mentor on AI when Adam is there, because in all honesty, he is a better vocalist than most of the mentors. How do you offer criticism on your musical superior.
When I hear people saying Adam screams, I want to scream! Are we listening to the same person?? Have you even heard him sing "Mad World" or "Tracks of my Tears??" Tell me where the screaming is, please! In his rock performances he does use a technique called "vocal belting" that is meant to convey emotional intensity and it takes a great deal of practice, skill and talent. This guy has the ability to sing ANYTHING well. He is an artist. If you prefer to hear just melody, go on youtube and listen to him sing "Come to Me" from Brigadoon...he does it with an Irish accent no less! No offense to the other idols, but Adam is in a league of his own.
