WCVB-TV (Channel 5) and its website, TheBostonChannel.com , were recognized in three categories in the National Headliner Awards this week.
The station placed third in the newcast category for its 11 p.m. newscast. The news outlet also won second place for breaking news for coverage of a fatal early morning fire in Lawrence. The website captured second place in overall excellence for online journalism. CNN came in first in that category
"It's quite an honor for WCVB and TheBostonChannel.com to be recognized on a national level in such significant categories,'' said WCVB president and general manager Bill Fine in a release. "It reaffirms our commitment to provide viewers with the best, most comprehensive coverage of local, breaking news."
In other news this week, WCVB's parent company, Hearst-Argyle, also won a Peabody Award for its political journalism for its "Commitment 2008" election series which WCVB was a part of.
