'Grey's Anatomy' finale review

Spoiler alert!!!

greys2.jpg

When it comes to TV, rumors often turn out to be true. Word was that Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight were preparing to leave "Grey's Anatomy." And at the end of last night's season finale, both Izzy Stevens and George O'Malley appeared to be gone: Izzy crashing, cancer-stricken, in her hospital bed, George coding in an operating room after being hit by a bus.

In both cases, no one called a time of death; there's room for resurrection and contract negotiation, not necessarily in that order. But in truth, it wouldn't be so bad for "Grey's" to lose these two, instead of straining to squeeze them into yet another season. Their characters have taken so many twists and turns that, at some points, they've become unrecognizable.

Perhaps that's the trouble with a show that's essentially a soap opera: the need for new romantic story lines can leads to absurdly mismatched pairs, and the Izzy-George affair, a few seasons ago, was a chief offender. This fifth season, Izzy even got carnal with her dead fiancé, Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), as viewers howled in frustration. At least he turned out to be a hallucination: a symptom of her aggressive cancer.

On a show that routinely makes viewers cry, the Izzy cancer story line has been surprisingly unmoving. Perhaps that's because it played out against the backdrop of well-publicized backstage tensions - Heigl withdrew herself from Emmy consideration last year, saying she hadn't been "given the material" to justify an award - and the rise of Heigl's movie career. (Last night's show, to underscore the issue, contained an ad for an upcoming Heigl film.)

Still, Heigl has had ample chances this season to brush up her Emmy submission: Last night, she played scared, hurt, and eerily sick, as in a scene when the doctors put half of Izzy's brain to sleep to see if she would lose her memory.

More satisfying, though, was the way some other lead characters returned to form. We saw Bailey briefly resume her role as a maternal figure, bossy and wise. We saw Alex act like a jerk, instead of an eerily supportive husband. The big reveal of the night - the identity of the battered patient from the bus accident - even made nifty reference to the pilot, when George's fellow interns dubbed him "007." O'Malley may go out the way he came in.

On the other hand, change can sometimes be good - particularly in the case of Meredith, who has abandoned her longstanding insistence on being miserable and decided to marry McDreamy after all. Last night, she and Derek exchanged vows over Post-it notes as a cover of the "Flashdance" theme song played in the background. May their relationship troubles rest in peace. Forever.

  1. Didn't really watch this season except for finale. Thought is was boring and unfeeling. Was shocked about George though.

  1. I don't agree- I actually really like both these chachters- Granted the Izzy dead boyfriend storyline got a bit off track, but no worse than Callie is now a lesbian storyline. LIttle Grey needs to be hit by a bus. She's annoying and pointless. I feel they played up her story at George's expense and his character was put on the back burner this entire season until the last few episodes. I like George- He's the good guy. He's the guy that trys the hardest and for him to go out like this would be terrible.

  1. BIG QUESTION???
I consider myself a very devoted and regular Grey's fan but I don't remember when O'Malley's fellow interns started calling him 007. What happened that caused this name to be given to him. Was it this season or another? What was the episode about? i thought that shock showed very good writing. I would love to see him recover and also Izzy but I know the show also needs new "stuff". I love the McSteamy/Little Grey storyline!!!

  1. I don't agree, I love both Izzy and George. They will be missed. I've watched the show since Season One, and they are like family to me. Losing Burke and Addison were hard enough.

  1. I love this show, and to see these two leave is sad. Maybe they want bigger and better things. Whatever the reason, God bless them and I hope they replace them with other fine actors that will bring even more exciting story lines to the show.

  1. Back in season 1, George scrubbed in with Dr. Burke, and he was doing fine. He got cocky after a while, and messed up while all the interns were watching. He was dubbed 007...meaning license to kill.

  1. Cindy: "007" was a name given to George in the pilot, after he nearly botched an appendectomy. I believe Alex was the nicknamer. Meaning: "License to kill."

And Margaret: Yes, there will be a next season.

  1. Loved it! I never saw it coming. Poor George. Anybody remember when George became 007? I agree, Little Grey is pointless; Mc Steamy can do so much better.

  1. George being hit by the bus and unrecognizable was done already. ER did it years ago. Is there no originality left in the world? I called that as soon as they brought John Doe in.

Posted by Scott May 15, 09 10:09 AM
  1. In response to Cindy: 007
In the first season, the first episode actually, George is selected to assist on Burke’s surgery. However George almost caused the patient to code. And the on looking INTERNS (in particular Christina) label him 007(License to Kill).

  1. Did Izzy really die?

She never got out of the elevator.

    George already had.

And what was the segment where Izzy wore that beautiful gown?

Posted by Tom May 15, 09 10:10 AM
  1. I'm still crying as we talk about it at the office today! No idea or thought that the bus victim would be/could be George. Oh my god! What a complete shock. I figured the unknown victim was trying to give Meredith his phone number to give to the gal who "stayed by his side" as he was being treated. Wow! When George and Izzy met in the elevator .... augh!!!!!!!!

  1. I CAN'T believe Izzie and George are leaving! I suppose that their roles have reached their developmental peak, but how will that impact the roles of the others? I guess that it opens up for many story opportunities. I TRULY hope something exciting happens next season! I REALLY love this show! I am going to miss George (even though his efforts on the show displayed little spark) and Izzie (even though she's a character I LOVE to hate!). I wish T.J and Katherine well on their future careers. I think that Katherine has potential to be a great actress (her performance last night was epic....for her, at least)....but she REALLY needs to stop accepting movie roles that undermine that potential [[her upcoming comedy The Ugly Truth, Knocked Up, and 27 Dresses]]. I would LOVE to see T.J. Knight do an amazing role in a Quinten Tarrentino film! Hopefully, all will be well for them! I HEART Grey's Anatomy!!!

  1. 007 is a reference to SEASON 1 EPISODE 1 where George gets to assist Dr. Burke on an appendectomy and he freezes in the middle of it.

  1. Izzy and George just can't go off the show. I love them both. Grey's Anatomy just want be the same without them. This season's shows have been the best by far. I can't wait until next season to see what happens.

Posted by Linda Smith May 15, 09 10:13 AM
  1. WOW where did that come from? George being the hero who jump in front of the bus? Why george? They should of gotten rid of little grey. I knew Izzy was gonna die no shocker there.

Posted by Lashaw May 15, 09 10:18 AM
  1. Knew from gossip columns that Izzy would be gone, but what an awful and grotesque ending for George! Least Shonda could have done was to write him going off to the army to be killed in our imagination. She must still be angry at him for being the cause of writing off Sandra Oh's previous love interest!
Too brutal a conclusion for George!

  1. I knew about Izzy leaving the show and even though i knew it was coming it was still hard to see. I aslo heard the George was leaving the show, and i didn't like how he got hit by the bus. And i can't believe no one recongized him. I did!!!! If he had to leave the show, they could've show him leave to the army. That would've have been fine with me. If there is a silver lining to all of this, i'm glad that George went out showing that he was great guy and that he would risk his life for a stranger, i think we all knew he would. Izzy and George were my two favorite charcters and Grey's Anatomy just won't be the same without them. But at the end, since they both had to leave, I was glad to see that Izzy and George did meet up together in the end. I'm glad it wasn't Denny for Izzy. Izzy looked beautiful and George looked so handsom!!! I will greatly miss them

  1. I would like to see Callie and McSteamy get back together. I love Callie.

Posted by Patti Gradisek May 15, 09 10:20 AM
  1. Technically neither Izzie and George died...they just coded so the viewers don't know where their fate lies. George is definatley leaving the show...he will probaly die in the first epi of season 6. Izzie on the other hand I think will pull through...I dont think she was going to die. I was so shocked that that man who had his face literally ripped off by the bus was GEORGE....big shocker. Honestly. one hour later after watching the show I was shoecked by...my mouth hit the ground. The part where Geroge traces 007 in Meredith's hand was shocking and I totally cried like a baby.

Posted by Carolyn May 15, 09 10:20 AM
  1. Tom: I think that it is definitely plausible that Izzy did not die. She wore the gown when she was going to see Denny on "prom night".. Denny then died.

Posted by Lauren May 15, 09 10:20 AM
  1. Don't even think about getty rid of Izzy or George... Izzy makes the show and George
still has alot more to give. Just be creative..How about more involvement with
Private Practice?...Between the 2 shows there are many possibilies totally untapped. I look forward to next season for both shows if my favorites are still in them.

  1. This season I just lost my interest in watching Grey's Anatomy but wanted to see the finale. The show just seems to be boring lately. I will miss Izzy and George and probably not watch the show next season.

Posted by Rose May 15, 09 10:22 AM
  1. I am avid fan and I love different kind of chemistry or personal nature that George and Izzy bring to the show. I am afraid that the show will take on a different "feel" and not be the Grey's that I love. I think the characters of George and Izzy will be sadly missed. They have always stayed true the "personal" kind of doctor that patients can relate to and that dynamic will be lost and the show will end up like so many other medical drama shows.

Posted by pamela May 15, 09 10:23 AM
  1. They started calling George 007 when Burke chose him to do the "intern surgery" everyone's first year. Burke said he was "his guy" BUT...the routine kidney procedure (I think that's what it was) went bad and George almost killed the guy and Burke had to step in....hence everyone started calling him 007 - because he was deadly -- i.e. " had a license to kill".

it may be pathetic how much I know about this show.

  1. I have no words.... Last night's episode broke my heart. While I realize that these are characters in an imaginery realm, they have become so very real to me over the past five seasons. I have heard all of the rumors about the tension behind the scenes, but the eternal optimist in me kept hoping that these actors would work it out and appreciate the gift they have in having more than substantial work in this economic climate. I have been hoping against hope that all of the talk of Katherine and T.R. leaving the show was just part of some ploy to build ratings... But last night's episode, all of it, was so, so very sad. It'll be a long summer...

  1. My guess for next season - George goes, Izzie lives. And George will have had something to do with "saving" Izzie.

Posted by Glenn May 15, 09 10:27 AM
  1. The finale was a tearjerker!! I believe that George WILL be gone -- he has crossed over. Izzy looked alittle confused in the elevator -- I think they will revive her (which she will be pissed about -- she had a DNR). She will go back down on the elevator to the land of the living.
Maybe they will have another actor play George -- afterall his face is a mess -- unrecognizable. Can't wait for next season -- with or without George & Izzy!!

  1. I loved last nights episode...yeah i knew John Doe was George but it was exciting just waiting for the others to figure it out. I think the show was very well written and well acted by all. it was quite emotional. it seems like George is a goner because he was already outside the elevator and waiting for Izzie but u never know in TV land.

Posted by Carolyn May 15, 09 10:28 AM
  1. I was really hoping for a different ending for izzie. no doubt she needs to be off the show, but poor alex! his 1st gf is in a psych ward and know his wife dies?? how much more dirt is shonda gonna drag him through!!!!
I so hope george doesn't die tho, he was an excellent character and deserves a better send off than being hit by a bus! maybe they'll bring him back but he's got too much damage to practice medicine or something...gotta be better than hitting him with a bus :-(

Posted by stacy May 15, 09 10:30 AM
  1. Great finale - looks like the rumors are true about Katherine and TR.
The ending was sad - but well written.
Maybe its time to add some new characters.
Bring a few over from ER!

  1. I've watched Greys since season one and have loved it since the beginning. I started to lose interest in the show toward the middle of this season with the whole Denny hangin around scenario. I continued to watch it every week though and I'm sure glad I did! The writers really redeemed themselves, especially in the last two episodes! I still get chills thinking about it. I'm bummed about Izzy (especially because of how much I like Alex's character with her), but I think I'm even more upset about George:( I love George, and the show won't be the same without him:( I'm looking forward to seeing where the show goes from here!

  1. I love both Izzy and George and hate that they may be gone. Izzy may not be tho, since she never got out of the elevator but George did, but they never called a time of death so who knows. I cried so much of George being the John Doe. WTF??? I dont want ethier to go but Izzy's death wouldnt be a surprise since we've all seen it coming but GEORGE omg come on now that was a total shocker and i for one am so pissed that he will be gone. If he wanted to go i would rather him go to the army, at least that way they could bring him back if they wanted to. i mean once you kill someone off the show they can never play that role again. they should have left room for him to come back someday.

  1. I am hoping that they do get rid of George for good and not resurrect his character - I never liked his character much. He was always whiny and annoying. Izzy on the other hand I liked, unfortunately Heigl's ego has gotten "too big" for the show.

Posted by mel May 15, 09 10:33 AM
  1. Maybe they'll bring another actor in to play Goerge. It would be entirely plausible since he'll probaby need reconstructive surgery.

Posted by welty May 15, 09 10:37 AM
  1. I was shocked - i had NO idea that was sweet George that got hit by the bus. I heard him referred to as 007 last night before the accident (i think by Alex), but i missed season 1 so i didn't put it all together. We've been hearing for months and months that Izzy hasn't been happy w/the show and vice versa - so - it's time for her to go. But not George - i love his character - although i'd like to see him get involved and actually have a decent story line instead of sitting in the backgroun all the time.

  1. In response to Tom....Izzie wore the gown in a scene with Denny...I think I remember her lying on the bed beside him and she was wearing the gown...it may have been after he died.

Posted by Judy May 15, 09 10:40 AM
  1. The dress that Izzy was wearing, she was wearing the night of the party, the same night that Denny died. End of season 3 I believe. Now I am crying again, can't think of Dennny without crying.

Posted by Katrina May 15, 09 10:43 AM
  1. Losing characters usually has a negative impact on an ensemble show. I hope next season we find they both have survived and stay on the show. Adding characters also has a negative impact. Lexie (Little) Grey was not a good move. She is taking away time from the other characters we love. Also Callie's new romantic links--not good. Keep the original characters--no more, no less.

Posted by Patricia Carlson May 15, 09 10:44 AM
  1. I didn't like the season finale, I usually cry when I watch it, but this time I was fine, they could have done better...

Posted by Martha May 15, 09 10:46 AM
  1. Tom, Izzie wore that gown in a previous season when they all had to go to a prom held in the hospital. She wanted Denny to see her all dressed up - he was still alive then. She was still in the elevator thinking of him as he died, they were both alone. It was one of the best scenes ever. The replay of her in the elevator last night was a great idea - and when the elevators opened with George in the Army uniform - that must have been the time of death for both of them. Well doen, Shonda.

Posted by Kit Kat May 15, 09 10:50 AM
  1. Seriously!!! Bad, Bad mistake to take off George and Izzy! It will be the start of the deteriation of Grey's. A show that millions LOVE!! Wake up producers....get better writers if you are having problems, NOT other characters that we all feel in love with!!!!! DuH!!

    Posted by Grey's fan!! May 15, 09 10:51 AM
  1. Did anyone eles think George looked really hott in the army uniform? I was so shocked when he traced OO7 on Meridiths hand and truned out ot be the John Doe. I lost it right there and cried the rest of the show. Last weeks epiosde when George helped Izzy down the isle made me yell out "Finally Geroge comes to Izzy's side" it was really annoying that he didn't go to her when he found out she had cancer, letting his pride get him. Those two were such great friends it would only make since that they go out together. I'm betting next season will start out at a double funeral and we will have lost my two favortie characters. I also hope they don't write in Elln Pompeo's pregencay. That would just be cheesy.

Posted by Maggie May 15, 09 10:56 AM
  1. The show will not be the same....although I was very upset at T.R. Knight for being the cause of Berk leaving the show he still brought good things to the show. He was always true to his character and him leaving the show will leave a void. I have gotten so used to all the characters that I really don't want none of them to leave. Maybe the best thing to do is let go on imaginary trips or life plans at least we know they are alive and may come back at one point or another. The one story that was really getting boring is the Merdith and Derek story, I mean come on they are doctors and they can't make up their mind., although last night was special!

  1. I started watching the show on last summer re-runs. I got hooked! It's almost like they're family. I've been ordering all the seasons through netflix to catch up. What I don't understand is all the people who can put the show down. Why watch? There's been so many shows where I need a box of tissues. But for Izzy and George to leave-The show should've offered more money to them so they'd stay! Now Katherine not thinking that she had enough good roles-she's just being silly! She's good on the show and in her movies. I've even gotten my husband into watching. And we comment on how well they make George fit in. Please keep the show going as is

Posted by teresa May 15, 09 10:59 AM
  1. I think that Izzie will survive through next season. (Just don't follow him off that elevator, girl) O'Malley..not so much. But I also had a feeling he was John Doe a little before it was revealed to Meredith. I'm surprised she didn't recognize him.And who knew George was such a stand-up guy and would jump in front of a bus for a stranger? Ughh all this confusion, all these emotions towards fictional characters. But all in all, what a finale! I'm heartbroken,15 hrs later.

  1. this season has made me cry so much, it is just so addicting, i count down the days until its on again..i ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SHOW! and last night my heart dropped when she said that it was George was the one who had gotten hit by the bus! i was so sad when it ended last night..i want more!! :]

Posted by Kayla May 15, 09 11:00 AM
  1. I don't know why I am so hooked on this show. The acting is so baAAaad, and the writing is, at best, mediocre...and yet, I feel compellled to watch every week. The two worst actors in the group may be gone. Of course, their seeming deaths may be Near Death Experiences. Who knows? There seems to be no rhyme or reason for much of what happens on the show.

Posted by chandidevi May 15, 09 11:00 AM
  1. I was totally heartbroken and still crying when I went to bed. George being John Doe was a complete shocker but clearly well-written. We expected one or both of them to be written off....but that was just too much. I still feel like we don't have the finality to say they are both dead. Someone is getting revived, at least till the first show of next season. There are no definitives. And here is something my husband mentioned...we get the prom dress and the elevator with Izzy. Totally surreal but, we all know that George had enlisted, but he NEVER made it there. Why did they show him in full dress with medals, etc.? Is that foreshadowing?

  1. Am I the only one in America that watched Patrick Dempsey's recent interview on the The View???? People, please YouTube!!! They're not going anywhere, I am convinced of that. It's DRAMA....hence last night's story line. Check it out for yourselves. (Patrick Dempsey on the View March 11, 2009) If Izzie and George leave, I will be surprised.

Posted by Brandi May 15, 09 11:02 AM
  1. I absolutely loved it.........I was in shock for quite sometime after it ended. They have left it open, so.... who knows where it will go from here.

Posted by KCK May 15, 09 11:03 AM
  1. If Izzy and George dont come back, I beleive that the show will have a huge done fall!! George was my favorite...Everyone loves the akward man, and Izzy shes just pretty and she needs to stay on so the producers better pay them more to keep them on the show cause if not i think that greys will see and ending with an a year without those 2!!!!

Posted by tiff May 15, 09 11:04 AM
  1. I was pretty depressed with the finale, I couldnt fall asleep after watching. I know its a show and all but seriously just like everyone else said he could've just went to the army, but it makes me feel better that the didnt call time of death. You never know it may work out for the best. Poor Alex his crying just melted me away.

Posted by sacha May 15, 09 11:05 AM
  1. WELL I watch it every week it suck's to take them off

Posted by john May 15, 09 11:06 AM
  1. Last night's episode was above and beyond melodramatic, which was not needed. Why couldn't they just make George go into the armed services, if he was planning to leave the show? I've been slowly pulling away from this show - and now I'm really done with it...too many deaths - not enjoyable any longer.

Posted by Cat May 15, 09 11:08 AM
  1. I missed the last 45 minutes of Gray's last night. After reading about the George/bus victim plot, I am unaffected by the fate of George and Izzy, too. I have to admit though, the writers "did Izzy wrong." And, George got pushed around quite a bit, too, making his character ultimately one I wouldn't miss.

Posted by Nancy Oteri May 15, 09 11:10 AM
  1. get over it, grey's fans. this was the perfect ending....a companion metaphor to the "elevator love letter" episode. RIP george and izzy.

  1. Frankly, I do not give a damn. The two characters - gone - GOOD!!
! I am also sick & tired of boo hoo Meridith....and partner! Boring....
    We need New characters for
next season. Bring back the vet doc!! Dr. McSteamy - what happened to him?
The Red Head doc...mmmmm - Yes!!!!!!! More....and his partner ...she is
    Good, Good, Good!! Great together....
Now that is interesting and good acting!!! As I only watch a handful of shows
after scanning the begginings of most....Boring......next season....
Rename the Show.....and bring back The Chief...fabu...more stories about him tto

  1. George is gone, not due to the bus, but a Chuck Norris Roundhouse kick to the face.....poor george.

Posted by chuck May 15, 09 11:16 AM
  1. I agree that they are both gone and the elevator going up was a symbol for the way to heaven. Izzy shocked look was when she realized that George was going up too. Izzy was in that dress because she knew whe would be seeing Denny in heaven.

I was going to say that it would be hard to bring George's character back would be difficult since he is so damaged but the reconstructive surgery idea is possible because McSteamy is there. Can't wait until next season.

  1. I have been a huge fan since day 1. I don't want to see Izzy or George leave. I thought that it was a great season finale. In my opinion, I love the Lexy/McSteamy relationship... It's turning McSteamy into a new man. I think someone should have a baby next season!!

  1. I figured out the bus patient was George when the Chief said he had sent George home that morning. I was just like "It's George!"

I don't believe that both of them will leave the show, although I could be wrong. I don't know which one they would keep but I do want them to keep George over Izzie. I find Izzie to be annoying and just overly dramatic.

Although, Grey's will be fine without Izzie or George because they hadn't done anything that had been fantastic. Most people are drawn to Meredith, Derek, Alex, or Christina. I am also liking Owen Hunt and could find him to be a prominent fixture. I do not know about Callie/Arizona thing; it's a weird situation.

  1. OMG! I was prepared for the Izzie cliffhanger, and I was even prepared for George leaving. But I thought they were making him leave by joining the Army. I was totally shocked by the bus thing. Kudos to the writers. I thoroughly enjoyed last night's finale. I truly cannot wait to see what happens.

  1. Wow, what a great show!!! I knew that John Doe was someone Grey knew because of the look he gaver her with the one open eye when he was on the trauma table and I kept trying to figure out who it could be. I never thought it was george till the chief said he sent him home. I can't believe I didn't notice him missing for most of the day! They did a great job with that twist. I love Izzys character and knew she was leaving but I hope george pulls through. I figure in next season's opener Izzy will not let him on the elevator and he'll be back. (At least I hope.)

  1. That was a good episode last night. Ok, here is my alternative ending: Alex is distraught over Izzy's death. He decides to commit suicide so they can be together forever. Scene change. Alex is standing in front of the elevator. The door opens, on the other side there is a wedding going on. It's Izzy and Denny getting married. Then they zoom in to show Alex's face as he realizes what a stupid thing he had just done. Then as Alex walks away, George passes him and says, "hello". What do you think? Ok, it's not as good as what was shown last night. I cried like a baby.

  1. I don't even watch the show for Derek & Meredith anymore. I dont really like the Christina/army guy match but I do enjoy seeing her in love again. I think little Grey is a distraction but it seems as though she had put a spell on what's his name. It's sweet. Izzy & George though? OMG If this were real life, I would feel sooooo sorry for Alex! George can go...he is a "supporting" actor. He comforts all his friends and is the good guy, tries to help out. The only bad thing he's really done is cheat on his wife which was uncharacteristic. Let him go...but I LOVED when Meredith realizes it's him then they cut to commercial...very suspenseful!

  1. George looked so handsome with his short hair and in his Army uniform...Through my tears, I just wanted to hug and kiss him goodbye. It was so incredibly sad to think that they both died at the same time. They used to be the best of friends, now possibly going to the other side together. Can't wait to see what happens at the beginning of next season.

I recorded it and can't wait to watch it again tonight!!
I normally don't stay up until 11 on work nights but I couldn't get to sleep afterwards. I was so wound up!! :>

  1. Last night's episode was simply a "here you go" to Katherine. The writer's knew exactly what they were doing. They have been slow with their actions, but they knew that saving it for last would boost their damn ratings. It is all about May sweeps. I am sure that they got a pat on the back for last night's episode, but the congratulations wont last for long. Ego's come back to bite you in the ass. Katherine had an ego trip last year, and it bit her in the butt last night. However, with that being said, the writer's are now experiencing that same ego trip. Next season, if these two characters are not part of this show, It's going to come back and bite the writer's in the butt. Ratings will go down. Every character on this show has contributed to its success. I have watched this show from the day it first aired. I have come to know and "like" every character. Simply put, the show will not be the same, nor will it be better. While Katherine is off making movies, Grey's will be struggling to come up with a way to rap up the show. It's dissapointing that T. R.'s dedication to Katherine was used against him. I guess the writer's think that dedication can only go in one direction. It's sad and foolish to ruin a good thing, because you have to poove that in the end, you got the last word.

  1. I think it's dumb that they are killing off two of the best characters. Grey's Anatomy is gunna suck now and i don't think as many people will watch it if they go through with it. YOu just can't change a show so drastically, and expect people to continue to watch with the same enthusiasm. i think they are going to start seeing a lot more disapproving fans. If you think about it tho what are they gunna do with alex now? People waited forever for them to get together and now this! Have fun trying to make a season worth watching out of that!

  1. I have watched Grey's Anatomy since the night it aired and have never missed an episode.
Unfortunately, I have to agree wholeheartedly with "Aquanet" (See her post below) Izzie really did/does need to leave Grey's. The writers destroyed her character long ago and she was actually ruining the show for me. "Little Grey", She SHOULD be killed off the show. Her character IS pointless.
Personally I think its a shame that the writers could not keep McDreamy and Meredith's relationship more original as when the show first started.

Posted by Sher May 15, 09 11:39 AM
  1. I also hope that next season that Little Grey & McSteamy liven up. I love him!!!
As in intern I can understand why they have her character low key while dating McSteamy but I hope next season they have a better hot story line.

  1. I thought the show was SO good last night. I was still thinking about it long after it ended. Meredith's cry when she realized John Doe was George was practically haunting. Grey's started to bore me for a while this season, but this episode was the show coming back in it's best form in a long time!

Posted by glickgirls May 15, 09 11:43 AM
  1. I've always enjoyed this show. Some of the story lines have bogged down from time to time and "little" Grey needs to go! I never expected George to be the bus victim and was truly shocked. I both love and hate that we've been left hanging...not knowing if George has died, not knowing if Izzy will die. You can bet next season's opener will pull high ratings. I was truly annoyed by the Postit marriage concept.

  1. I was laughing my butt off last night. That was one of the funniest episodes of ANY show ever.

Posted by Callous Laddy May 15, 09 11:53 AM
  1. I actually like Izzie Stevens. She was the female junior resident character of the show that was bubbly and all contradicting all the "dark and twisty Meredith," and "robotic Cristina." Though I quite agree with the fact that her having cancer was really unmoving. I thought that Katherine Heighl will be able to deliver something inspiring but turns out to be the opposite. It was just unconvincing! George O'Malley! What happened to him?! After mistakingly hooking up with his bestfriend, getting divorced....what happened?! He was soooo invisible this season! It was shocking that the guy who was hit by a bus was actually O'Malley. I was jawdropped. But honestly, Grey's Anatomy is becoming predictable. I hope they write better for the next season.

  1. okay...i'm still in shock here. i had no idea that was George although something kept nagging me abut john doe. it was't until he wrote 007 in meridith's hand did he even start to resemble george in the slightest. i think hes gone for good though, but izzie, although her storyline has taken over a bit, i'm sad if she's gone. theres no doubt, george IS gone. Izze though...well, the heitation on the elevator and the REM while she was getting the paddles begs the question...is she really gone?

  1. Here's the lesson - don't piss off the writers! First Katherine Heigl makes an unfortunate comment, and BAM - undiscovered Stage IV cancer. TR Knight is thought to be troublesome - BAM! Hit by a bus. At least in the corporate world, when we use the phrase "thrown under the bus", it's just a metaphor....

Agree with comments about Little Grey - her character is mostly a waste of time. Also agree with those who don't know why they are so hooked on this show. I'm totally hooked, even as it has gotten sillier and sillier and more and more melodramatic.

  1. To Lady Di May, if you don't give a damn than why would you post something on the web. Keep your opinion to yourself no one likes a person who hates on a show that everyone loves! I thought last nights episode was awesome I think the writers did George wrong they should have let him go to the army. It was the saddest thing I have seen this year. I liked both characters since the first episode.

I really hated the Izzy Denny story line this season. But through it all i love the show and wouldnt miss it for anything.

  1. I find the most interesting fact was that I didn't even notice that George was missing during the second episode until he identified himself to Meredith. If it is that easy to lose his character in the ensemble like that, then it's probably time for TR to move on

  1. Cindy,
George got the name 007 when he was doing an apendectomy with Dr. Burke. George froze and Dr. Burke had to finish. The other interns were watching from the observation room and I beleive Alex said.......007 and it stuck. It was from the 1st season I beleive. So now you know. : )

  1. Is it wrong that I harbor some rage and resentment against the girl George was trying to save? She said she was "looking for someone hotter" and didn't give him the time of day at the bus stop. Yet, he took a freakin' bus for her. Shallow bitch. I would've let the bus take her out ... how many hot guys do you think you'll attract with that road rash?

  1. I was shocked by George being John Doe. I didn't expect it. But, what gets me is how mean Alex was treating Izzy after she just got out of brain surgery. I think he was very rough picking her up to hug her before she collasped. Brain surgery is a very delicate matter., and I am surprised no one else has brought up that subject.

I have been waiting for Izzie to die only because of all of the rumors of her and T.R. Knight trying to get off of the show. I was shocked about the john doe being George although, I was sure it was someone from the hospital I just didn't think it was George. The show is definately gonna be different now but, that is not gonna stop me from watching!!! I like the show just how it is. It keeps me on my toes, I just cant handle waiting through the summer for it to come on again, so hard =(

  1. When Izzy goes, so do I. I think she was the best character on Grey's
and she needs to be there. If she is not there next season, neither am I.
I think the show is making a huge mistake if Izzy is not back.

  1. I was also in shock when Meredith discovered that John Doe was George! I don't know but I think that Izzie is the one leaving....the elevator incident it seems like Izzie is on her way already and George is waiting to catch the elevator, not necessarily off it already? I think this makes sense? George's love life sucked so by having this girl say that she has found her prince charming... that makes me think that he is going to recuperate and have a relationship with this girl and maybe have a different actor play his role which would be justified with all the surgery he will be needing. I believe the one who might be written off will be Izzie. George....i don't think so! Awesome Finale though:)

  1. I have been watching since day one and I LOVE this show, especially Patrick Dempsey. I was really glad that Alex finally found someone who was changing him for the better. Now if Izzy leaves, what is going to happen to him?--is he going to go back to being emotionless, mean Alex. I think that would be horrible. Give him a break already. Let him finally have something good. I don't want Izzy to leave. And I also like Little Grey...Meredith needs a sister. And I like her with Mark. I am glad they are done with Denny. And I wouldn't be sad if Callie left.

  1. Greys anatomy was excellent last night. I didn't know John Doe was O'mally, and it was just a big shock. The whole cancer thing with Izzie was sad and I really like the way the Alex stepped up to be a husband and make the decision for her to have surgery. McSteamy can do better than Little Grey. I am really tired of Little grey (why is she there). I really hope that George and Izzie come back to the show, but it they don't...I think Greys Anatomy will still be just a good.

Posted by Kathleen May 15, 09 12:24 PM
  1. I thought the finale and the previous episodes were complete shams. The whole season has been about Izzy or Izzy and Dead Denny. Dead Denny got more airtime than George. If KH wants to go and do movies, let her. I will mss George but if he isn't getting any airtime, maybe it;s for the best. Poor Meredith and Derick, the best they can do for two favorite characters and actors is post its in the residents room? Please. A church filled with people that thought they were going to another couple's wedding, sat for another couple getting married. How believable is that. For a show that goes to all means to make the medical cases authentic, what about the personal lives. Then the sham of the website for donations. I actually defended it when it first came out because I felt that if donations can be made to charities because of two well-loved characters, what's the harm. Don't worry, I'll still make my donation directly to the charity but really what a sham. Go back to season 1 and 2 and get the writers and directors from that time and bring them back. The previous episode spent 40 minutes of the show zipping up body bags of characters we didn't know. Twenty minutes of a wedding thrown in on a different couple. I love the show and love the characters but these dark story lines are really depressing in a time when depressing is not helpful.

As far as Izzy, she wants out so that wasn't a surprise..... What would be a surprise would be if she lives..... I am sad to see her go cause i have always loved her character.... I guess when u say they aren't writing good stuff for u they really don't .. Her doing it with Denny so wrong on so many levels.....

Posted by Cathy Reames May 15, 09 12:33 PM
  1. Holly - that's an amazing concept - have George live but a different actor plays his character!! Since his whole body was mangled the guy doesn't even have to be the same height. It would require finding a really good actor though. TR Knight left pretty big shoes to fill.

As for Katherine's character, I'm going to go with they revive her and there's a whole story line on "lack of trust" and "selfishness" issues with her new husband. I think this was just to scare her out of saying stupid stuff like she did when she declined the Emmy nod.

Posted by Anastasia May 15, 09 12:38 PM

  1. I had stopped watching for awhile because it got to be too much--there is a fine line between sexy and ruanchy and they crossed it one too many times for me. I think that it is ironic that the same guy that was responsible for railroading Isaiah Washington is now leaving the show--Hopefully they will bring Burke back (that's if he will come back). I thought the the finale was riveting. Finding out that it was George who was the bus accident victim was heart-wrenching. They cannot go any place but down from here on.

  1. I really liked Grey's, and will probably keep watching in spite of myself, but this show "jumped the shark" the minute George slept with Izzy. There have been some good story lines since then, but they should wrap it up after next season and end it before things get any more lame. Loved watching Meredith go through therapy and realize that she could have a happy personal life - should have ended the series when she and Derek reconciled at the end of last year and left on a high note. Whether George & Izzy died or not - who cares! When the story lines depend on whether the actors will get paid enough to stay on the show it's time to end things.

Posted by Sweet Nan Nan May 15, 09 12:49 PM
  1. Great ending.... but isn't it a little absurd that 1/2 the Drs. working on George had slept with him and didn't recognize him? I know his face was practically ripped off but good grief I think I'd be able to identify my husband by the rest of his body. Meridith of all people, was holding his hand a couple of times, that should've clued her in right there. Tsk, tsk, Shondra, you're slipping.

  1. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is all I can say is Wow, and I hope that somehow, someway they both survive. I think they are a big part of the show and I hope it is not someone's dream like they did one time of Dallas the whole season was a dream. But if the rumors are true I wish them luck in whatever they pursue. Izzy has been one of my favorite characters she is amazing and she proved it last night I was crying my eyes out. What an ending!

  1. I started watching this show because it was my 21 year olds favorite. It took me a bit to get involved. Meredith drives me crazy because she seems too indecisive to actually be a good doctor. Finally during the finale she seems to have grown up a bit and can make a decision about something, let's hope she doesn't revert back to her "other" self.
I absolutely loved the last 2 episodes. I think that Katherine Heigel outdid herself in both of these. Of course it is a little too close for my comfort since I am presently going through chemotherapy myselt. I had heard that Izzie and George may be leaving but I think that they are going to be sorely missed. Better to get rid of Little Grey and Arizona.

I would have NEVER guessed that they would have done that, but they had to throw a wrench in it to make pull a heart string. I dont want either of them to go, but as they say no matter what the show MUST go on!!!! Great writing... ABC finale's ROCK this season. Private Practice.... LOST... And now this!!!!! I think it could do some good to bring some of the doctors from ER to Grey's

Originally the series were a mix between drama + comedy with very interesting medical cases. Now, it turns to be a totally drama!! I want them back!! Or change the name of the show. I want Izzie back as she was on the first episodes and George, the good boy, don't deserved to die that way, not him. Meredith and Dr. Mc Dreamy my best couple ever, I LOVE THEM!! 1. There were a lot of good comments here. I don't agree with the comments about TR Knight being responsible for Burke being written off the show. He did it to himself. My sister thought they could bring George back and he could use the new "robot" equipment that the Chief bought. I hope that neither of them die. Both of them told the truth, their characters got stagnant from the story lines and if they want to leave, I don't blame them. I wish they'd drop the Callie chasing skirts thing. Her oggling women in the bar with Mark was ridiculous. They got rid of the heart surgeon supposedly because of the story line (?) and then brought in someone else to replace her.

  1. THE WRITERS OF GREYS ANATOMY HAVE NO COMPASSION FOR THEIR VIEWERS. THEY ARE COLD HEARTED.SEASON AFTER SEASON WE WATCHED IZZY AND GEORGE GROW THROUGH GOOD TIMES AND BAD. SOMEWHAT OF AN ATTACHEMENT YOU GROW FOR THE CHARACTERS AND TO RID THEM OFF THAT WAY WAS TOO TRAMATIC. I MEAN WE ALL SUSPECTED IZZY WOULD DIE IN THE SEASON FINALE WHICH WE WERE PREPARED FOR WHICH WAS EMOTIONAL ENOUGH, BUT TO THROW IN OMALLEY DYING AT THE SAME TIME AND SO DRMATICALLY WAS COLD AND RUTHLESS. I AM HIGHLY UPSET!! I OWN ALL THE SEASONSON DVD BUT THAT IS IT I AM DONE WITH GREYS ANATOMY !!

  1. Grey's will never be the same. You have definately committed sitcom suicide. The writers made a huge mistake. Why give George such bad storylines? Geroge and Izzy were huge assetts to the show. GA needs new writers and keep George and Izzy. What is the old saying about not changing a good thing when you got it. The writers screwed up two years ago. George was one of your best characters. You really must have been ticked off at TR to keep giving him crappy storylines. You have lost two great actors. Big mistake! Huge mistake. I wish them both the best in their acting career.

  1. Last night was amazing and is one of the best finales I've ever seen. The George reveal was fantastic writing and I was relieved that Izzie and Alex made up before her death. The theme of the episode about saying what you feel and not wasting a day was tearjerking. As soon as Izzie was wearing her gorgeous dress from season 2 I started balling and seeing the elevator open to show O'Malley was perfect and tragic. They may have wasted his character for awhile but they let him go out in style!!!! Can't wait for next season!!!

  1. I'm irritated! Ok yeah George goes out being a hero, I get that. But seriously, all of the characters had some kind of close relationship to George! Everyone is going to be effected! I think it's really going to mess with Merrideth because he tried to tell her who she was and she was just like "O well we will try again tomorrow." And I can't quite remember but George and Lexi are still roommates right? She's going to be messed up. Baily is loosing her marriage and can't go into the specialty that she wants, so she's depressed. I have no idea how Alex is going to take having a second love die on him. Christina and Owen? getting too weird and awkward, That's just not Christina. so that leaves us with the broke lesbians, Derrick, Mark and Weber. I don't know if i can watch next season.....

  1. The ending was a stunner, and I cannot wait till the new season to find out if both, one, or neither of the players has truly taken the elevator 'upstairs'.
I do hope that both players will return - maybe in different attitudes. George will stand his ground and not be a 'gofer' --- or join the army and either get refused or keep returning for guest shots. I don't think the show will be the same without Izzy. Gotta keep "Dizzy Izzy".

  1. I have watched this show from day one and have all seasons on dvd.. This was the BEST final of any show I have ever watched.. I assumed it would have something to do with Izzie and her surgery and die or not die, but the George shocker ......that was amazing... But I hope somehow they will return and not die.. We know it is possible on TV.. So don't let them leave.. The show will not be the same without them. I love both no matter what the story is.... Thanks for a great ending to the season...

  1. seriously.....george and izzie were the reason i got into this show. i am furious that it looks like were are losing both of them. i am considering resigning from watching every thursday night!! I agree that lil grey should have been the one hit by the bus and i think christina's creepy war lover looks like a cave man. They'er weird together. And in my opinion that scene in the underground air shaft where she struggled to say "i love you" seemed like she was the one with half her brain asleep!!! It was lame. I would have way rather had of the others be hit by buses besides George! Izzie was the excitement...i was never bored with her.

  1. I really want george and Izzie back.. they are part of what the show is all about regardless of what their storylines have been. they are both wonderful...But you know they left it so Izzie can live and left it as if George may live but be a totally different actor since his face will for sure have to change.. It will have to be someone really great to fill the shoes of George...They could do away with the army dr guy, he just doesn't fit in with the other georgeous guys,,

  1. I found the season finally for Grey's to be a bit over the top. Plus is seems they are takinga page from ER. In the third season a student was hit by a train, and no one knew who he was at first. The other was reminisant of Dr. Greene and his battle with a brain tumor. Maybe their leaving will help move this show in a new direction with fresh new stories.

Posted by Matt May 16, 09 12:17 AM
  1. Yeah, it says in all the papers that Izzy has signed on for another season and George leaves. After Meradeth drown in the previous season she and her mother were both coding at the same time and they met in the "afterlife" and Meradeth was sent back to live while her mom died. The same thing is going to happen here. Izzy and George are both coding and they have met in the "afterlife" but George is going to die and Izzy is going to be sent back to live. This will make for an interesting storyline next season, because Izzy was DNR, she was best friends with George and she wasnt supposed to be saved. George's storyline has been nonexistant for a while and this was a good way for him to go. He was being a good guy, saving someone he doesnt even know. This is Izzy's show next season for sure. No more Meradeth nonsense drama. The producer loves Izzy offscreen and hates George...thinks he is too high maintainence... which he seems like he could be. So for all of you that think they both died, you are in for a surprise. What an episode!

  1. George's character was left in the background, ever since he failed his boards. He's the good guy. The guy with the morals. The guy everyone can rely on. Killing him, even as a hero for joining the Army and taking a bus to the grill for a stranger, is a bad idea. Who can replace George? Alex? Hardly. A stranger? He should never be accepted by the others. Izzie's character was always over the top, and too loud. I wouldn't miss her much more than Burke or Addison (I was giddy when she left), but George needs to stay and keep the stories grounded. Little Grey needs to move to background again. Loved the way the show addressed the "Awesome" story of George joining the Army. See you next season.

I find it hard to believe these people who say that their characters have reached their peak and that the story line with dead Denny was "off track". I loved seeing Denny again. George and Izzy are part of the show's dynamic and it wont be the same without them.

  1. Hey, Laura, May 15, you may think they are not going anywhere because of the May 11, Patrick Dempsey “The View” interview. Please watch is again. You’ll hear that when questioned about Meredith and him marrying, he says there will be a marriage. When asked again, he says there will be a union. Clever misleading McDreamy devil that he is…;-) I loved Thursday’s show! I’m sad about George and Izzy, so the writing of that piece worked. I see through story lines about the doctor characters often getting an awakening through someone else’s eyes, generally via a patient’s or someone’s articulation of their values at a time-driven event that the doctors translate into their lives and take action then and there. I noticed a few brows arching lately…George’s in a mature discerning focused way and little Gray when playing coy with McSteamy. I also noticed little Gray’s character took on a flirtier role with the new long curled lashes. Nothing gets by me…ha! I prefer her unglam. I did love the story twists: thought the amputee was joining up again…not, John Doe is George, and Izzy was going to see Denny. I was sooooo sad to see George there looking so shiny and beautiful in his uniform. He went from dork, to handsome, to a blob (omg THAT hurt!), to Georgeous! He’s also had a great run with women…Meredith, Callie, and Izzy…and to see him squashed….pshaw. Bailey’s crying monologue was tremendously convincing and Alex had to resort to brass tacks yet became a puddle at seeing Izzy slipping away…both beautiful acting feats. The underdeveloped little Gray character will have to grow as her sis’s face widens. Next, Meredith’ll be dawning a pregnancy mask needing pan makeup and fake freckles… :-P Good luck to George and Izzy wherever you land! How the heck are all these characters going to move on carrying these mortal wounds…Shonda!?

  1. Shouldn't there be some sort of "grief quotient"? I mean, I like a little drama, but by the end of the day I'd like it to be at least a little upliftng. Instead, we lose both Izzy AND George (probably) and both tragically, to boot. The best part of the whole episode was Meredith's plaintive 'OH MY GOD!' when she realized John Doe was George. If it is possible to win an Emmy for one line of dialogue, Ellen Pompeo just did it. As for the idea of a different actor playing George, I thought of that too at first, but I looked down and saw a bunch of sharks-a-circlin'. The last thing we need is another 'Bobby Ewing in the shower' type storyline.

  1. I used to be a fan of Grey's, but it started getting weird, so I stopped watching. I watched the finale and was entertained again. I will miss O'Mally, I agree, he was the good guy, but I will not Izzy's character, it was a stupid role. I wish those other 2 will get married already. They have reached the peak of that story line. It's old already. That's why I stopped watching it. Why aren't they allowed to marry? We need to move on! Also, what's up with Callie's role? Is that the best they can do? Get rid of little Grey too, she has a stupid role, no purpose!!!

IF ANYONE SHOULD HAVE BEEN KNOCKED OFF THE SHOW IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HER. IF YOU LET THESE ACTORS LEAVE ITS THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THE SHOW. SAD TO SEE THAT HAPPEN BECAUSE IT WAS A GOOD SHOW. SOOOOOOO FIRE THE WRITERS,, GET NEW ONES AND BRING IZZY AND GEORGE BACK

  1. George got the name "007" in the very beginning of Grey's Anatomy. This is because it seemed like every person he got ended up dying. I'm pretty sure he tried getting his nickname taken away after he saved that man in the elevator when the power went out. But anyways...i know for a fact they called him 007 because everyone died under him. hah. sad i know..but hilarious nickname.

Iz, will be revived. I disagree about not liking how George is going out. That's his style. Doing the right thing, & for the right reasons...not for attention, or pomp & circumstance...just quietly...because he's George. He always wanted to make a difference, & that was his last act...selfless & loving. Dang, I'm gonna miss him! And I hope they do what someone else said & make it so that somehow, something about his death will help Iz.

  1. It is really sad to watch real life drama affect our make believe drama. That's really what this whole cancer and bus hitting thing is all about... Saying that, the writers deserve to hold the heads up high with the way they have delivered this departure of two key characters in this show. I have loved Grey's since the beginning and would rather see impartial characters like Arizona and Little Grey leave instead of Izzy and George. I do love the little sigh of relief in Izzy's eyes in the elevator when she realized she would have her best friend there to begin her next journey. George is one of those people that gets unnoticed in life and yet deserves the best. I don't know how I will feel if it is true that they both are gone. It might be a little like ER when Dr. Ross left! It's just never the same

  1. I can't believe they would do this to George!!! Izzy we have been prepared for- but George? Like this? That was appalling!!! I don't ever want to watch Grey's again. My daughter and i just watched it and sobbed for 20 minutes straight. We want the writer's sacked now!!!!! How could they do that to George??? Such a violent death for him. George is gone and Izzy will live. Poor George!!!! It's not Grey's without George. We've watched since season 1 and we are gutted!!!

BTW Hunt and Cristina are a horrible pair and we hate them together. Sack the writers. You've alienated all of your true fans by doing this.

  1. Please, please don't let either Izzie or George die and leave the show. Love them both and have watched the series since it started. Don't know where all of the animosity comes from for Little Grey. If a show doesn't turn you on, then turn it off. I, for one, love Grey's Anatomy and all of the characters and their stories, even if I don't agree with them. Keep George and Izzie alive.

  1. The only reason I started watching Gray's is because of Heigl. She starred in a short-lived series called Roswell. I knew she was something special the first time I saw her on Roswell. With her gone, it won't be the same.

  1. I knew Izzy was leaving and not surprised about her demise. But not George. That's NOT fair. I have really liked his character and thought he got the short end of the stick this season...I will miss them both but I won't give them up until the fat lady sings. Right, somebody up there....no time of death called.....looked to me as if they were deciding which way to go when they were in the elevator scene. I could easily live without McSteamy, Little Gray is okay. I don't like Callie in the gay roll. I am SO glad that Meridith and Derek are together and sure hope they can remain sane. This season was much better than las season. These are (supposedly) serious doctors and the flighty nonsense is unrealistic....to me anyway. And keep Bailey in the original mode of character, she is much better that way.

Posted by Wanda Bamberg May 17, 09 01:49 PM
  1. I liked Katherine Heigel in Roswell; but she proved to get "to big"; for the show. Maybe it's because of the Meredith/Christina relationship. You would think that Meredith and Izzie would be best friends, oh well. They all have their own issues. Finally, Meredith/ Derek will be happpy; or if they do have problems they promised not to run. Since Ellen Pompeo is pregnant in real life; that could be worked into the stiryline. It was appropriate for Meredith to be the one to get 007 in her hand. The only sad thing is that if he is really off the show, George should have had more of a story. Alex proves to be himself- a JERK. Izzie is a home wrecker-- it is time forbher to go.ttime to go

  1. OMG! What a shocker. I thought Izzie would see Denny when the elevator door opened. Wow. I taped the finale and just watched it this morning. I think George is gone but Izzie didn't get off the elevator so I think next season she will decide not to go with George and will stay on the elevator, the door will close and she'll come back. At least I hope so!

I'm thinking the reason Alex said all those cruel things to Izzie was to shock her into remembering, which is a good thing, right?!

Posted by Ginny May 17, 09 02:58 PM
  1. so george is officially my favorite character ever on that show. I had heard rumors he was leaving...George simply can't die!! I mean it would be his luck not to just get hit by a bus, but to be dragged a whole block too! Whether he is dead which i really hope he's not, man did he look sexy in that army uniform His eyes were soo blue. YummY! So for that reason he can't leave. I think Izzie should coax O'malley into the elevator with her and go back to the land of the living!!!!!!! PLEASE PLEASE!

Posted by Laney May 17, 09 09:15 PM
  1. Like everyone else, I heard the rumors. Unlike a lot of others here, I realize that emsemble casts go through changes as the years tick by, especially medical dramas. Just look at M*A*S*H* and ER.
That being said, I was in shock when George enlisted! It would make perfect sense for his character, to want to go where he's needed. but it was still a shock. I had no clue he was John Doe until I saw him trace 007. I yelled it the same instant that Meredith did! And I had to admit, George looked sharp in his uniform!
He's dead, and will be joining Izzy on the elevator! Up, up and away!!

Posted by Bobby May 18, 09 04:49 PM
  1. Rumor is that T.R Knight wants to leave the show. Here's a way to let him go but keep George. George gets a new face because of the accident and remains at Seattle Grace. Izzie pulls through.

It made me laugh at all of the references to the pilot episode that there were in this episode, because I watched the pilot literally right before I watched the finale, just for the fun of it... haha

  1. They can't leave!
    These are my final words!
I've thought about this before the finale a lot, and I've considered it and I wondered what I would do if they let go Izzy a million times but when I began watching and saw what she said to Karev before she went to surgery and heard the DNR part I... I just fell apart! I couldn't watch her go. I realized the most important thing; They are like a family. They've been together since season one. They need each other to survive. Everything seems whole and coming together again but really this will bring down everything. Burke was big and so was Addison but they didn't die they just left but were talking death here. Death is definite and you can't resuscitate someone once they are dead in a show. I mean not in a show like Grey's Anatomy at least. The fact though is both Izzy and George are vital characters to me and I would guess for a lot more viewers. Their death would have an impact on every character in some way and why tear something, that they've worked on so hard, down. Bring in new characters that would certainly spice up things but not as a substitution for Izzy and George. I remember Izzy the model with the mind of a doctor and George the 007 with the heart of gold. I remember the beginning when it all started. I refuse to let go so don't make me!!

  1. I posted this, just now on Shonda Rhimes blog regarding the last episode. Let's see if it makes it through for approval.
    ----------------------------------------------------

I saw the episode when it first aired and was outraged! But, I shook it off and went back to real life, until the episode came up in a conversation with the new interns yesterday.

Then it occurred to me that they don't know that what they saw was criminal.

    What am I talking about?

In the episode, Izzy went out of her way to declare her legal advance medical directives by way of DNR. She told the medical team, and with some anguish, Alex, her husband of her wishes. When she was arresting, when the DNR orders (medical orders written on behalf of the patient, respecting her explicit wishes) should have been honored, what did Richard do? He said, "Screw the DNR!"

Screw the DNR?! At that point, applying electricity was ASSAULT. At that point, CPR was ASSAULT. She said no, repeatedly, and he did it anyway.

Does that sound like any other crime?

I am again, completely irritated by the portrayal of an assault crime as somehow heroic, and disrespect for a patient's wishes as honorable.

Please make this right in the next season.

  1. I can't believe you think it's a good thing that George and Izzy could die! They are two of the best characters on the show, it's not fair to kill them both off. Granted Izzy being all carnal with Denny was pretty gross, but she can't really help it. One: he was the love of her life, and two she never got to be with him before he died.

  1. The Best Season Finale in the history of Television!! I just want to say that it is a given fact that MILLIONS of people cried wacthing the last episode of Grey's Anatomy. From the blogs, messages, articles, and ect, so many people did'nt just shed a tear but hysterically cried. I must say that this is the best show ever!! I watch ABC just for this show! Congrats to the actors, the writes, and ABC for putting this show on air. Thank you!!!!!!

  1. I really hope that WASN'T George that died and that the 007 thing was just a big coincidence somehow. I keep hoping George really did go to war and he was put on some mission where he can't call, write or email anyone until its over. One day the girl that was saved would later run into one of the people from George's life and start reminiscing and they pull out his picture and......she says...wait a minute, that's NOT the guy who saved me. After all, weirder things have happened on this show, so why couldn't something like that happen later into this season or another. Oh well, while I wish what I've said would happen, I just feel it ...AINT gonna happen. ( sigh... ). I miss George but also wouldn't mind seeing Burke come back to the show. I really liked the character he played.
