Morgan will replace King

It's official now: Piers Morgan is going to take over Larry King's 9 p.m. timeslot on CNN. Morgan, who sits with Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel on the judges panel for "America's Got Talent," will take over in January. CNN President Jon Klein says Morgan, 45, is "able to look at all aspects of the news with style and humor with an occasional good laugh in the process."
The change is part of CNN's ratings push, which will include the Eliot Spitzer and Kathleen Parker 8 p.m. series premierimg in October. Yesterday, CNN announced the title of that debate show: "Parker/Spitzer."
As I wrote when the rumors about Morgan began earlier this summer, Morgan just may work out for CNN. The Brit is not a household name here, but he has a growing profile thanks to his acerbic comments on "America' Got Talent" and his time on "Celebrity Apprentice." So we know who he is, but we're not tired of him yet. Also, Morgan can be a little mean and ask tough questions without much strain. Like many Brits on American TV, he doesn't need to be loved by viewers in the same way as Oprah, or Ellen, or Barbara Walters.
