'The Kennedys' finds a home
After three weeks of rejection, the controversial miniseries "The Kennedys" has landed at a network. The eight-parter will air on ReelzChannel beginning on April 3, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Where? Yup, you probably haven't heard of ReelzChannel, which is why the 4-year-old network bought the miniseries. "The Kennedys" was initially rejected by the History channel, allegedly due to pressure from the Kennedy family, and a number of other outlets including Showtime, FX, and Starz also decided against airing it. "We think it will drive ratings and put a spotlight on this network that has never been on it before," Reelz CEO Stan Hubbard told the HR. "We're going to do a full-blown marketing campaign." Reelz is available in 56 million homes nationwide on services including DirecTV and Comcast.
Executive produced by political conservative Joel Surnow of "24," "The Kennedys" is rumored to be unflattering and inaccurate -- a representative of History said "the dramatic license the series takes is not suitable for the History brand" when the channel rejected it. The miniseries stars Greg Kinnear as JFK and Katie Holmes as Jackie.
