How much were the judges wishing they hadn't used their save option?

Because it was Rock and Roll Hall of Fame week, actual Hall of Fame-r Iggy Pop showed up to strut through "Real Wild Child (Wild One)." "Rock of Ages" star, and former "Idol" contestant, Constantine Maroulis dropped by to sing "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers.

But none of that was as entertaining as the look on...

...Stefano Langone's face when he was told he was safe, meaning that Pia Toscano was eliminated. He looked more shocked than anyone, and almost apologetic as he hugged her.

The judges voiced their outrage-- including Steven Tyler admonishing America for lacking passion in not voting for Pia--and JLo cried. Randy was hopping mad. (Once he came out of his daze I wonder if Stefano thought, "hey, wait a minute...") The crowd booed. And Ryan made Pia sing again after her farewell video.

The first couple of folks who went home made sense. Casey's near-elimination was mildly shocking. I enjoy him but it's not hard to imagine that there are people who don't like what he does. But Pia's elimination really surprised me. Chris Daughtry-sized surprise.

I know she made really snoozy choices and that sometimes the female teen audience that votes the most enthusiastically doesn't always vote for women. But from a technical standpoint Pia was near flawless and it seemed likely that the older women who enjoy singers like Celine Dion would vote for her. I originally picked her to win but came to realize over time that she was probably too boring for that. But I still figured she'd make the top four.

So what did you guys think? Did the right person go home? Were you shocked? Was Pia just too safe -- no pun intended -- with her choices? Is it the ever-powerful teen girl voting bloc only voting for men? Were you happy to see Constantine Maroulis again? Were you curious as to why he sang a Righteous Brothers song? (I know it was Rock Hall week but he's not a contestant.) Were you ashamed to look in the mirror after learning Jacob was in the bottom three? Could you believe that TMZ/Russell Brand ridiculousness? Did looking at Iggy Pop make you feel chilly? Talk about it here or come chat with me tomorrow at 11 a.m.
