How many TV singing competitions is too many? NBC is betting one more couldn't hurt.

Despite a lukewarm reception last week for its rival network's singing foray "Duets," NBC is developing a new show called "The Winner Is," according to Variety. The program is being planned in tandem with John De Mol, the creator and executive producer of NBC's other singing show, "The Voice."

But "Winner" comes with a twist: along the way, competitors can take cash deals in exchange for their withdrawal or roll the dice in hopes of reaching the $1 million top prize. Once the field has been narrowed to two finalists, they can opt for $100,000 or go for the win through audience voting.

No judges have been announced yet, but with Britney Spears making noise on Fox's "The X Factor" and Jennifer Lopez's career revival being credited to "American Idol," serving as a judge on talent shows is becoming an increasingly alluring role for celebrities.

What do you think of NBC's plans? Do we need another singing show? Is the format a nice change of pace?
