Mariah Carey may be sitting in Steven Tyler's recently vacated seat at the "American Idol" judges panel.

An unnamed source tells People that the vocal powerhouse is "in serious talks" for the "Idol" gig.

Judging a music competition show may not be that big of a stretch for Carey. Her name popped up as a possible replacement for Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger after the first season of the American version of "X-Factor."

In addition, "Idol" might be a good home for Carey since her manager is veteran judge Randy Jackson. Jackson also said in February that while the superstar diva would be "amazing" giving critiques on "X Factor," he added that he didn't think Carey would actually join Simon Cowell on his latest TV venture. Maybe they were plotting an "Idol" move all along?

However, according to US Weekly, Carey and Jackson won't be dishing out advice next to each other at the judges' table since Jackson might be the next to exit the show.
