Singer/actress/"The X Factor" judge Demi Lovato signed on to join the "Glee" cast for season five. Lovato, who celebrates her 21st birthday tomorrow, will play Dani, "a NYC-based struggling artist friend" of Lea Michele's character Rachel Berry and Naya Rivera's Santana Lopez (who Tweeted her excitement at Lovato), according to TVLine sources. The site also reports that Lovato's character will interact and sing with fellow "Glee" newbie Adam Lambert in the upcoming season. Show creator Ryan Murphy welcomed the "American Idol" runner up with a tweet in mid-July.
Lambert sent his well wishes to Lovato via Twitter:
@ddlovato I just heard the news! Excited to sing w you girl!— Adam Lambert (@adamlambert) August 19, 2013
Lovato's deal reportedly has her appearing in "at least six episodes, beginning with the second part of the show’s Beatles’ tribute, airing Oct. 3." The "Heart Attack" singer will also resume her role on the judging panel for Fox's "X-Factor" Sept. 11.
The upcoming season of "Glee" will take a hiatus Oct. 10 following a tribute episode to late cast member Cory Monteith.
