New Fall Schedule:
Wednesday nights
A LOST (ABC) 8 p.m.
Starring: Matthew Fox
They say: A plane crashes on a glorious Pacific island, and the 48 survivors form a new society. There’s action, adventure, and a mysterious being in the woods. It’s from inventive “Alias’’ creator J.J. Abrams.
We say: The crash sequence is devastating, and the psychodynamics are complex. The only thing wrong may be the early time slot.
Should be known as: “Survivor: Jurassic Park’’

D+ CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE (CBS) 9:30 p.m. (Pictured above)
Starring: John Goodman, Jean Smart, Olympia Dukakis, Ed Asner
They say: Goodman’s a good man with an insane family. Asner plays his sex-crazed dad, and Dukakis is his generally crazed mom.
We say: A massive success, if the goal is to make some of TV’s finest comics look foolish.
Should be known as: “Everybody Loves Goodman’’

B CSI: NEW YORK (CBS) 10 p.m.
Starring: Gary Sinise, Melina Kanakaredes
They say: Spun off from “CSI: Miami,’’ which was spun off from “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.’’ This time out, it’s fibers, microscopes, and bullet wounds in the city that doesn’t sleep.
We say: Originality? Nah. Cool criminality? Sure, why not.
Should be known as: “CSI: Insert City Name Here’’

C HAWAII (NBC) 8 p.m.
Starring: Michael Biehn, Sharif Atkins, Ivan Sergei, Eric Balfour
They say: An island police force deals with drug running, murder, and a few politically incorrect cops.
We say: Viewers deal with stock crimes in a pretty setting. It’s as imaginative as its title.
Should be known as: “Hawaii Five-Oh-No’’

D THE MOUNTAIN (WB) 9 p.m.
Starring: Oliver Hudson, Barbara Hershey, Anson Mount
They say: An ultra-sulky Hudson inherits his father’s ski resort, much to the distress of his ambitious brother. On the scene: hot mom Hershey.
We say: This is the WB angst factory at its worst. Lots of soap, but no suds.
Should be known as: “One Tree Mountain’’

B- KEVIN HILL (UPN) 9 p.m.
Starring: Taye Diggs, Jon Seda, Patrick Breen
They say: Diggs is an NYC lawyer whose macho bachelor moves are cramped when he inherits an infant girl. Bring in the gay nanny and the law office owned and staffed by women.
We say: It’s easy to dig Diggs. But the pilot strains to get him a baby, and the law firm gender business is “Ally McBeal’’ rehash.
Should be known as: “One Man and a Baby’’
