Barbera's creations congratulate him after he received the lifetime achievement award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 1996. Barbera, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York, originally went into banking, while his partner Hanna studied engineering and journalism before turning to animation. Barbera died Monday of natural causes at his home with his wife Sheila at his side.
