THE DOCTOR IS YUCK
11. 'Will & Grace'
Meeting Leo
(Sept. 6, 2002)
It wasn't just that Grace had one of those tiresome sitcom on-and-off love affairs. It was that she had it with Dr. Leo Markus, who was played like a piece of wood with a stethoscope by Harry Connick Jr. Messing and Connick had no chemistry from the get-go, in season five, and yet the producers kept throwing them together. I wanted the lovably neurotic Grace to find someone with more personality and integrity; instead, she wound up with a cipher. Midway through its run, the once fabulous sitcom was already erratic and consumed by guest stars, but the arrival of Leo was a biggest, baddest omen of mediocrity to come.
