14. ON THE ROCKS

"The Sopranos"
Fourth season finale, Dec. 8, 2002
"Whitecaps"

There were many violent hours of "The Sopranos," and lots of blood shed during the show's six seasons. But this episode was very emotionally violent, as Carmela reached her breaking point over Tony's infidelity. The fighting between Tony and Carmela during this hour-plus scream-a-thon is so fraught with anguish, so caustic and hurtful, it's hard to watch. Here were Edie Falco (left) and James Gandolfini (right), going for broke together. By the end of the episode, the future of the Soprano family was entirely up for grabs.
